At the time, people only really knew how funny and talented Conan actually was if they stayed up to 12:35am every night to watch him (like so many of us weirdos did) so a lot of people were still unfamiliar with his comedy style at this time... I remember watching this live and being so proud to be a Conan fan. That musical number was perfect and the most Conan thing you could possibly hope for in an awards show opening 😂
@@ronojoydutta8485 literally I don’t think there were barely any celebrities that went up and landed a joke except Conan, so many obligatory laughs for cringey jokes, and then Conan who eats cringey jokes for breakfast and spits them out as actual comedy
Between the Emmys, the first episode of The Tonight Show, and the first episode of Conan, Conan is the king of cold opens. (The cold open for his Late Night show was also great).
Conan usually has a team of writers helping him write material, but I'm almost certain he wrote that Music Man parody by himself. He's stated multiple times The Music Man is his favorite movie, and he wrote the monorail song from The Simpsons, which was also inspired by The Music Man.
I seriously love Conan. It's a specific kind of humor that only a certain niche can appreciate. It's like the introverted version of Robin Williams' type of humor but made more appropriate. I am glad that he never went mainstream because it makes his humor feel more special, but I also wish he had gone mainstream so that we could see more of him. I know he has his podcasts, but I really miss the creative skits and jokes. @TeamCoco
NBC did the dumbest thing ever by letting go of Conan. They publicly screwed him.. but luckily for Conan he got a nice payout.. and him switching over to his TBS show gave him the freedom to really utilized his talents and was able to do what he wanted which made him even funnier.. He transcended himself into the one and only legend of TV Hosts that will ever be considering the Late Night Talk show format is essentially dead. (Except for Johnny Carson for he was before my time)
This is the most exemplary example of how to keep the most talkative of people on a timeline while simultaneously not pissing them off. Shout out Conan
ConeBone69 LMAO I love Conan That was the best opening ever made. The Oscars should've offered the Host job to Conan.. it'd actually be entertaining for a change
No, this, as the title clearly describes, is Conan O'Brien hosting the 2006 Emmy awards. This is not, literally, or figuratively or in any other sense, a live rendition of the Monorail episode from The Simpsons. There are no references to monorails, or that episode. The closest connection, is Conan doing a musical number wearing a hat vaguely sinister to that worn by character Lyle Stanley. The connection is tenuous at best and again, is in no way literal. Words have meanings. Do you conceive of material, in your head, the way Homer Simpson makes up movies when he's bored watching another ? And pretend that material in your head is actually the material playing on screen, instead of the real content ?
i cannot believe im actually watching emmy's from nearly 20 years ago. i was 10 back then and didn't even kniw what the emmy's were. the things we do for Conan
POV: *you saw the low quality video and youre looking for a clearer quality video*

Literally me😂😂😂
here's my peeps
its a whole 120ps higher
you striaght up called me out haha
This opening will forever be the best until the end of time
Lost, The Office, South Park, and To Catch a Predator lmao

@@musicjunkiefl no its cruise. apparenlty he had been in a recent south park episode with the same idea
This has to be the most Conan thing that Conan has ever done.
It's considered the coniest Conian in all of Conolagogy. I say this as someone who has a master's degree in Conology.

well let's see how Conan he'll be in March when he hosts the Oscars

Conan started hosting Late Night in 1993. This was recorded in 2006. Conan was a worldwide phenomenon by that time. He was very well known.
Late Night with Conan O'Brien will always have a special place in my heart.
Such an incredible time in TV. Really the last golden decade before streaming.
Agreed!
There were some good streaming shows over the years but mostly dark, depressing, not something to watch with the family. That’s what’s been missing.
Bro idk what you’re yapping about… we’re in the golden age of TV
All Conan parts:
0:00
20:22
27:10
31:00
53:22
59:48
And that’s it, folks!
The comment I was looking for.

Well no shit
Definitely not the Emmy’s.

Agreed!! Loved that Tonight Show opening
54:32 Damn.. That mic swinging skill.. Conan is professional at almost everything in SHow BiZ!
It's a skill that Conan learned during his time holding the mic for Triumph the insult comic dog.
I love how the audience inmediately recognized Tom Cruise in the South Park skit. That episode was still fresh in people's minds back then
I didn't know it was Tom 😂😂😂
He says “Bruce”, it’s Bruce Jenner not Tom Cruise.
Seeing this and realizing it was right before NBC had Prime Office, 30 Rock, Parks & Rec, and Community. Such a packed roster.
Amazing shows but they weren’t ratings powerhouses but the following now is way bigger than when they originally aired
this was back when NBC was still suffering (mind you 30 Rock would premiere after this Emmy Awards)
One of the greatest openings I have ever seen. Every time I go back and watch this I cant help but shake my head in awe. Conan is a genius.
And now he's hosting the oscars!!!
Conan usually has a team of writers helping him write material, but I'm almost certain he wrote that Music Man parody by himself. He's stated multiple times The Music Man is his favorite movie, and he wrote the monorail song from The Simpsons, which was also inspired by The Music Man.
He cut his teeth writing at Harvard and the simpsons he could easily write on his own
Conan the Greatest. Carson is smiling down on this man.
I'm only watching this for Conan I was feeling down and he always makes me 😃 smile

Just the best entrance of all time.
Perhaps the Best opening I have seen in a long long time!

I've been waiting for this full video for so long. Conan needs to host everything. Thank you!
Side note: Any chance for when Conan hosted in 2002??
it was online for awhile but Candy Pants LLC should not have uploaded The Late Late Show with Craig Kilbourne
