the u.s. is still (barely) a majority white country, and in terms of raw numbers, more white people voted for obama than black people did, despite the fact that nearly all black voters did. so that joke perhaps isn't in the best of taste. seth meyers did a better take on your joke at the 2011 event, when he said that "if your hair gets any whiter, the tea party is going to endorse it." make the joke about how the tea party is racist, rather than implying that all white people are.

i don't know if any thought went into it, but i actually think that was the right way to subtitle it. that's what you need to know to get the joke. actually transcribing the spanish, or translating it into english, would get in the way of appreciating the joke.
Watching this for the first time in 2021, made me laugh so much my face hurts. Conan is a national treasure, looking forward to his next appearance at this event.

Outstanding, one of the best I've seen! Worried it was going to be a bit "fluffy" without any good insider humour, but I loved it when he started going after all the news organisations one by one. Lovely example of how your humour can be both smart & silly at the same time.

Yeah I agree they’re are some people who may do a better job at one liners but no one can carry a show like Conan. That took genius to pull that off. Not a single script screw up, perfect ad lib and perfect character in the process.
Conan is unique. Not just that he's educated to things inside and outside the government, but also, he has this aura that you need to smile because of his smile.

If you can do something well and you work hard at it like Conan people recognize it and you progress further in life. When you become the youngest lead editor in the history of the Harvard lampoon, land a job writing on SNL, followed by the Simpsons and then get ur own talk show ur probably going to develop some serious confidence. Tldr Conan is a boss and that's where his confidence comes from.

Conan O'Brien did one of the best jobs with his jokes of anyone in recent history (and Seth Meyers was pretty funny too) at this event.....
Conan was funny, but he didn't really say anything of importance. Contrast that with Cecily Strong or Stephen Colbert.
His sharp wit and clever humor had the audience roaring with laughter throughout his entire speech. O'Brien's ability to blend political satire with self-deprecating humor was truly remarkable, and he fearlessly poked fun at both the politicians and himself. It was a refreshing and memorable performance that showcased his comedic genius and solidified his place as one of the best late-night hosts.
