      And your Lord inspired to the bee, "Take for yourself among the mountains, houses, and among the trees and [in] that which they construct.
      Then eat from all the fruits and follow the ways of your Lord laid down [for you]." There emerges from their bellies a drink, varying in colors, in which there is healing for people. Indeed in that is a sign for a people who give thought.

    Not a bee keeper, but I found this incredibly interesting.
    My six year old son has a new obsession with honey lately... and the bees added in Minecraft, plus the recent bee pandemic we're seeing here in Europe has him very interested in all of this. I showed him some bee videos yesterday, how the hives work and how honey is made. That is how this got recommended to me. He hasn't seen this video yet, but I'll be sure to show it to him because I found this one to be the most straight forward.
    Plus I love now open and free you are with bees. No suit whatsoever, bees crawling on you, no worries. My son is scared of them every time they fly close to him when we're out. I'm trying to get it in in his head that they don't care about him and are just out to find pretty flowers.

    WOW!!!!!.I was absolutely fascinated watching you,while you were working.And amazed to see,how you even don`t need to use gloves to protect yourself,against the bee`s stings.How peaceful & comfortable you look,while remaining next to those bees.You remind me to my father,-(a Basque gentleman,who loved bees,and dealt with them,with infinite patience,love & respect)-.So I grew up in a farm,where my father used to have more than 30 hives.Since we live in a tropical country-(Colombia)-,we make the honey harvest twice in a year.So hives almost double in number,year after year.Every time my father made the honey harvest,he even did not have to use any kind of protection.It seem,bees recognized him,& they were so nice with him,the same way he was with them.But sadly,one day,my father was no longer available to deal with his so beloved bees,and nobody else,was neither available to do so.. Dad passed away,& the bees flew away from this farm.So at this point,SORRY!!!,but no bees any more!!!. :-( !!!.Greetings from Colombia!!!.

      The colour system involves marking the queens a colour that corresponds with the year in which they are mated. This is as follows:
      - Years that end in 1 or 6 get a white dot
      - Years that end in 2 or 7 get a yellow dot
      - Years that end in 3 or 8 get a red dot
      - Years that end in 4 or 9 get a green dot
      - Years that end in 5 or 0 get a blue dot

    why would you re-queen a colony? Couldn't the queen just keep going on being queen? I am so curious. When you re-queen, do you kill the existing queen?

    • @JTXTV
      @JTXTV 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Apparently, a good reason you'd requeen a colony is if the current colony that exists doesn't act accordingly. Sometimes the workers tend to attack/go on the offensive when they have certain queens.
      Not much of an expert. From what I've seen from these videos, a lot of the colony's actions are determined by the queen. Change the queen and hopefully the colony will settle down and focus more on production and less on attacking innocent bees and bystanders.

    • @UoGHoneyBeeResearchCentre
      @UoGHoneyBeeResearchCentre  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      We requeen for a few reasons. Old queens won't last much longer so we replace them before the hive dies. Bees can replace their own queens but it doesn't always work and at certain times of year is impossible. We also re queen if we don't find the bees to our liking. It's a way of improving the genetics.

    • @UoGHoneyBeeResearchCentre
      @UoGHoneyBeeResearchCentre  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes we kill the queen in a humane way by pinching her quickly.
