Ford knows they've strayed too far from what the old F150s were. They've stayed they won't do a lightning on the F150 because it's too big and heavy. Maybe we can get a Renegade Lightning!
TheUsmc1488 Man, all auto makers have strayed too far. Vehicles look like washing machines nowadays and they have way too many babysitters on them. Also, how the hell can you use less dense steel, aluminum, plastic interiors and still be so heavy? I can honestly say I haven't really liked anything that has came out since 2000 and I'm being generous with the year.
I remember how quickly the aftermarket responded with superchargers, headers and transmission mods. The next thing you knew, 1st gen Lightnings were on dragstrips wrinkling slicks and lifting the front wheels! It was way cool to have a ride that you can work with M-F, then throw on slicks and race Fri nights....
Ford really need to do a legit Ford Performance Lightning. Instead of the dealership clones. You can of course build your own standard cab short bed 5.0 and slap a blower on it...but having the actual legit package would be awesome
I don't like the looks of the newest Ford body style. I actually don't like the newest GM or Dodge trucks either. I don't think any of them look good. My favorite F-150 body style to this day is the 92-96...at least in the modern era since fuel injection first became widely used in the late 80's. But my favorite Ford trucks ever are definitely the 53-56 and 67-72 F100 body styles
My dad had a white 93, tube bumper, sliding window and jump seat. He almost got a ticket the first day driving it home. Then we got a 01 in red. I got to drive it to school and had my first races in that one. Best trucks ever.
My dad had both gen1 and a gen 2 both black. We found them off pire luck. Already having a gen 2. Going down the road I had an eye for Lightnings and saw a gen 1 at a small used car dealership and we bought it immediately.
I live in LA, had to get one out of OR. Flew up to portland and drove it home the next day. 250$ for a one-way ticket and 400 in gas. Cheaper than the mark up here.
Bought a 93 new in 93. Mine was black with tubular bumpers and a sliding rear window. It was a good truck that had decent performance, but a Syclone was considerably faster.
I just found a red one sitting in the weeds not far from my house. Hasn't been on the road since 2016, but still looks very nice. Im trying to find who owns it to work out buying it.
There are other things that are different and unique to these trucks. The rear axle has cooling fins cast into the housing. The frame has pieces welded over the top in the rear arches to stiffen it. It has built in traction bars in the from section of the leaf springs. The steering is quicker because the pitman arm is longer. Camshaft is high torque, the transmission has a shift kit, the late 94 and all 95 Lightnings had roller camshafts. As far as handling, this truck will pull 9 tenths of a G. And there is more,
U didn't mention the 120 speedo . The Lighting was the only F150 to ever get one . Also the the trucks of that Era had a choice of CD radio or Cassette. I think your truck is missing its fog lights. Otherwise. Good Video
Ford is suffering in the quality department. I see painted bumpers on relatively new F-150s that are corroded after a few years. I six year old truck with a bumper falling off because of rust is unacceptable. I would expect that from a Chevy truck. Sorry, I couldn’t resist.
It's a lot easier to make 300hp with boost! You could switch to a flat top piston for more compression, better flowing cylinder head, upgraded camshaft (you will be limited on the cam if you're running the stock speed density system), and better flowing exhaust. -Landan
If you run boost I recommend forged piston heads, half of a piston head blew off of mine. Somehow still ran on all 8 cylinders after changing the spark plug 😂
Had a 94 red. Mobile 1 oil came out. I switched to it and it leaked at my rear main seal. Repeatedly, learned my lesson on new synthetics and seals. The Hp numbers were impressive in the day. Laughable now. What's coming in the next 30 years. Thanks for the very detailed look back Landon. The truck there is like brand new..amazing..
I remember this one customer as i work in the car parts retail, came in one time trying to change spark plugs, cause one sister store sold him the wrong ones, so naturally i went out look at vehicle, it was what 93 xlt ,single cabin, beautiful red paint, and said he got it right , then i was like u know what ,pull a plug out,and lets just browse thru and see, so went back outside look at the vin and engine bay, and sure was for whatever reason the plugs are different than your regular 5.8,so i asked the guy,how much did u pay for this and where did u find it in such good condition, He was like Orlando from an older gent,i payed 3gs for it,it had just been repainted too , I told the guy you stole that deal, he was like why u say that?, I was like, they only made those in some what limited production and that one is well taken care of for the year. Some people just have that luck i wish i had sometimes
They need a light lighting back even the supercharged 5.4 was not enough for how heavy the trucks were .and the single over head cam heads did not flow well at all they did well for the 4.6 but on the 5.4 ran out of steam way to fast
0:36 ...Compromised????? So the SVT program was "composed" of a team of people that were willing to "accept standards that are lower than is desirable." Interesting....
the closest I'll get to the lightning is my 93 4.9 inline 6 xlt short bed definitely going to check out LMR for some lightning body kits so I can play pretend
We need the Lightning Back
MustangLab 302 It'll never be the same
I wish Ford would bring these back too!

New lightning with the new GT500 engine 😁

And while they're at it they could make the 150 a little more aerodynamically sleek for the lightning

They will not. All are going electric.
Need to go sign the RPM act of 2021
Theres the Shelby F150 Super Snake and the F150 Raptor R

😂
@@ronjlwhite8058 paid specific attention?
Connor yesssss
The worst. Suposubly.
I bet he says Valentime's Day too.
Still one of the best good looking trucks ever built in my opinion
Would love to have a 1 Gen and a 454ss but unfortunately here in LA they are asking way to much for them while being in bad conditions or salvage
Then dont buy in LA

Buy in mexico and pay for the importation it is way cheaper bro lol
Come to Dallas tx
I remember driving the Lighting new right off the dealership lot...really fun truck!
SVT team was “comprised” of certain people...not “compromised” ha! Freudian slip?
Al Singleton few might have noticed the slip... 😆
i was about to post the same thing but figured i wasnt the only one who noticed it lol
@@erikhoover1269 my bad...
Al Singleton I was just going to comment that

Cyclone caught everyone by surprised. This was more of a response for the 454 SS. Good heads and a cam on the 454 wakes it up, ALOT.
please tell you still have it?
Did you have a center console or jump seat?
Love it!!! I own #223, a 1995 White Ford Lightning.
Thank you for keeping it G, it is hard to find appropriate car videos!
Love those seats lmr should make them and sell them
Lmr needs to show the first gen lightning more love in the parts section....
Not many people have gen 1 svt lightnings tho that’s why
I've only seen one in my life time a red one and I fell in love with the decal in its thigh
Red always look good on these!
At least he’s putting info out there. All the young kids that call trucks of this era “OBS” often don’t know what these trucks are.
These were great trucks and lasted a very long time.

Great video.
I still have mine i still drive it love it
The Syclone Walked Those Lightnings And 454s All The Way Home..
Tony Cervantez as did the Typhoon!
They only had a 500LB payload though. The Lightning payload was just short of the regular F-150 at the time.
66skate Nobody was using a Lightning to haul anything
@@bobfalfa76 I had a pallet of cement mix in mine one time.
True but they had a turbo and weighed a 1,000 pounds less so...
I’d say that Ford should bring this back except... they actually might but with an “eCoBoOsT”
other than the V8 growl, I personally feel like the ecoboost wins out in any other way.
I had a 2014 tremor with 3.5 ecoboost. 4.10 gears in those as well and pretty quick for a stock truck
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! I LOVE IT!!!! AND THANKS FOR SHARING!!!!
Hey John, We are glad you enjoyed the video! Thank you for leaving us a comment!
You should do one for the 2003-2004 Mach 1
Derek Y gosh I miss my 04, I’ve got a 16 now but it’s not the same
Ever think to start the truck up and drive the damn thing?
Comprised. Not compromised.
Are these pickups relatively cheap?.
Congrats on 100k !
Where are the fog lights on that truck?
Hey LMR! Great overview of the SVT Lightning! Now the prices will climb! Lol
I was a 454ss guy then, glad I finally grew up
Ford should have made a built 5.7L 4x4 version and called it Thunder.
I've always loved the 1st gen
Great video!!! I subscribed!
THANK YOU!!!
I still want one today
Loved the looks of the first gen lightning's but they were slow. Should have gave it a 5spd option.
Mason Comeaux so was the 454 SS
Right? Lol. I actually got lucky and and raced a 454 ss truck In my 15 Silverado 5.3 poor guy i dusted him.
But yes we need them back!
I really like my black 93 lightning.
Need more parts for this truck on the website. Like the front coil springs. You got the shocks but no springs. 🤦🏻♂️
The one in the video needs a set. Its sagging in the front.
Was the crank and rods cast? I know the pistons were hypereutetic? Just wondering if it had a nodular iron crank?
One badass truck! That's what that is!
love this generation of ford trucks..... they just look ... right.....
They are selling this truck near by. I would buy it, but I have no money and I already have a car. This truck is awesome in my opinion.
I had a 93 for 10 nearly trouble free years. The trans started going bad at about 192K, so I traded for an 03 Supercrew.

I have a 94 indy pace lightning
Wow luv to see pics of that.
I need interior parts, the prices are crazy.i would like the fold down jump seat.
I found one for 13K with 8k miles. Cammed up and beatiful truck. Looks exactly like this one.

I have a 1992 f150 note. Predecessor to this thing. I like the black better IMO but that's a nice truck.
Can anyone tell me the bed size on the 93-95 Lightning?
The bed size on a 93-95 Lightning is 6.75 feet long
