Elizabeth Fraser is incredible. She was the lead singer of Cocteau Twins. You should definitely do some Cocteau Twins, they produced incredibly beautiful, atmospheric music. I recommend you start with Serpentskirt, Summerhead, or, Amelia. Love you guys 👌
Aside with Lisa Gerrard,Elisabeth Fraser is one of best voices of the millenium.Independent label 4AD brought rare and interesting music in the 1980´s such as DEAD CAN DANCE and COCTEAU TWINS
This Mortal Coil were a British music collective led by Ivo Watts-Russell, founder of the British record label 4AD.[4] Although Watts-Russell and John Fryer were the only two official members, the band's recorded output featured a large rotating cast of supporting artists, many of whom were otherwise associated with 4AD, including members of Cocteau Twins, Pixies and Dead Can Dance.[5] The project became known for its gothic, dream pop sound, and released three full albums, beginning in 1984 with It'll End in Tears.[6]
'It'll end in tears' is such a good album, love every song on it. I wasnt so fond of either Filigree & Shadow, or Blood, other than the paired tracks Miniscus/Tears.
There is no treatment on Liz Fraser's voice - that's *exactly* how she sounds live (I was lucky enough to them 3 times in the 80s & 90s). A totally unique voice, with phenomenal melisma. Her collaboration with Massive Attack, 'Teardrop', is also glorious.
This song absolutely slays me, every single time, after all these years. The single most beautiful song I've ever heard. Liz Fraser goes beyond knocking it out of the park - she's out of this world!
The Cocteau Twins masterwork was their album "Heaven or Las Vegas' and is an album you should definitely hear or react to. It Is acclaimed by many to be the pinnacle of the Dream Pop genre and Liz Fraser's vocals are the very definition of "Ethereal Siren".
Jean Cocteau was a famous french Writer......Elizabeth Fraser (Cocteau Twins) also sung for MASSIVE ATTACK.Elisabeth's Singing Style in this Song is definatly a TRIBUTE to the GREATEST FEMALE SINGER EVER : LISA GERRARD/DEAD CAN DANCE.It's an Example of a whole Music Genre called "HEAVENLY VOICES",part of the Gothic Genre based mainly in England and Germany........
at about 4.15 you said something about unick, it is. I grow up with this sounds and every time i listen to this ageless sound from elizabeth my tears are swelling and i am back in the 80's.... never ever heard something like this voice 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
Liz Fraser of the Cocteau Twins & This Mortal Coil is in my opinion the finest female vocalist to ever come out of UK. This has been my favourite song since I first heard it in about 1984 - I want it played at my funeral ❤
There's no "sound effects" done to her vocals, minus any overlaying done in the recording and mixing on this album. She's about one of the most natural vocalists there ever was. The only real effects added are within the range of dynamics she provides throughout. The production of the overall engineering and sound quality played only a small part in terms of landing the millions of fans who love her, Cocteau Twins, and This Mortal Coil worldwide, something they never predicted would ever come close to happening.
Originally written by Tim Buckley... later on she went to date his son Jeff Buckley who died young from drowning. Check out "All Flowers in Time" she sang with Jeff... a love project that wasnt supposed to be released but it's on youtube!
This song was written by Tim Buckley the father of Jeff Buckley. Tim had an amazing voice. Another singer Robert Plant also sang a version. Check out both Tim Buckley and Robert Plant singing this beautiful song on YT.
This was, of course a cover of Tim Buckley's original and wonderful version, as many (but not all) of This Mortal Coil songs were. Elizabeth gave it her all in this cover version. The collaborative talent from the artists/bands that went into the making of 'It'll End in Tears, Filigree and Shadow, and Blood could never be replicated. You guys have consistently delivered the goods! Thank you!
It’s an 80s classic from a very classy album. Might I suggest an obscure song from around that time you might really enjoy? It’s unlike this song but a gem no less. David & David - Welcome to the Boomtown. It’s gritty, raw, honest about life’s disappointments. I think you guys will really enjoy it.
Jean Maurice Eugène Clément Cocteau (UK: /ˈkɒktoʊ/, US: /kɒkˈtoʊ/, French: [ʒɑ̃ moʁis øʒɛn klemɑ̃ kɔkto]; 5 July 1889 - 11 October 1963) was a French poet, playwright, novelist, designer, filmmaker, visual artist and critic. He was one of the foremost creatives of the surrealist, avant-garde, and Dadaist movements; and one of the most influential figures in early 20th-century art as a whole.[1] The National Observer suggested that, “of the artistic generation whose daring gave birth to Twentieth Century Art, Cocteau came closest to being a Renaissance man.”[2]
Please react on "Write in Water" from Love Spirals Downwards (they have also made a nice cover of "Welcome Christmas") and "Into Dust" from Mazzy Star.
Cock toe twins. I’m not kidding. An incredible group. Love you guys…I’m not much of a “heavy” or “hard” music lover but I enjoy and appreciate your point of view/reactions. Great choices too.
lol…I thought this was a new reaction. I could’ve sworn I’ve watched most of your reactions…just not this one. Great. I’m a year late. Story of my life.
if you ever get the chance please try her cover of roy harpers' another day' from the same album as song to the siren. again very different from the original and suprising, well worth finding.
One of the best songs ever written and performed by one of the best singers ever
except this song was written by Tim Buckley. This is a cover
This Mortal Coil is one of the most pure art projects ever happened..
Elizabeth Fraser is such a unique talent. Indeed the whole band ( The Cocteau Twins ) were one of the soundtracks to my twenties
Her voice is an instrument.

Thanks, guys. I'm so glad that you enjoyed it.
The one and only Elizabeth Fraser
Lives down the road from me
I've listened to this song 1000 times, and it's impossible for me to not cry every single time.
same
Me too

They're no doubt referring to the use of reverb on the vocal here.
An amazing band in its all original and aetherial.Cocteau was a french poet, writer and ensaist from early 20th century.
I’m as puzzled as a newborn child, I’m as riddled as the tide. I love this song.
This song absolutely slays me, every single time, after all these years. The single most beautiful song I've ever heard. Liz Fraser goes beyond knocking it out of the park - she's out of this world!

My absolute Cocteau Twins favourite album is Treasure
Cocteau twins, Carolyn's fingers is a beautiful song, you will see the indie power in her vocals
"Gorgeous song, beautiful voice!!" 💋💕🎵🎼🎶

The original of this song was written and sung by Tim Buckley - Jeff Buckley’s dad. Years later, Liz Frazer would have a brief relationship with Jeff.
Not written, as Tim composed the music to a poem written by his friend Larry Beckett.
A truly unique vocalist...absolute legend.
Elizabeth Fraser and Jeff Buckley did an unpublished duet.....All Flowers in Time Bend Towards The Sun....you should check it out
i just love watching these reaction videos to some of my favourite songs
Now you have to check Cocteau Twins, followed by Dead Can Dance.
I don’t think her voice tampered with it’s pure brilliance !
Hauntingly stunning
This is sooo beautiful❤️
Liz Fraser of the Cocteau Twins & This Mortal Coil is in my opinion the finest female vocalist to ever come out of UK.
This has been my favourite song since I first heard it in about 1984 - I want it played at my funeral ❤
She is great and I love the Cocteau Twins and TMC and 4AD stuff in general but better than Sandy Denny? Not a chance!
The great Liz Fraser
This Mortal Coil were great, a shifting line up off gifted artists - i'd recommend Mr Somewhere, short song but heartbreakingly beautiful

When I hear this song, I think of The Lovely Bones
The best choice for the ending sequence amazing .... Such a sad but amazing movie
Originally written by Tim Buckley... later on she went to date his son Jeff Buckley who died young from drowning. Check out "All Flowers in Time" she sang with Jeff... a love project that wasnt supposed to be released but it's on youtube!

First time I heard this song was in the trailer for the 2003 remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre with Jessica Biel. Weird.
When I heard Cocteau Twins live in the 90's, she sounded exactly the same as she does on her records
There´s a live version of this on YT. IMO, it´s even better than the studio version.
liz fraser the voice of god
The OG version of this by Tim Buckley is equally intense
Pretty Song
There is also a live version which is even better
If you haven't done her singing 'Teardrop' with Massive Attack, do it!
You will be blown away by ANY song by the Cocteau (pronounced coc toe) twins. Try Carolyn’s Fingers, or a more Marychain like Spanglemaker.
It’s an 80s classic from a very classy album. Might I suggest an obscure song from around that time you might really enjoy? It’s unlike this song but a gem no less.
David & David - Welcome to the Boomtown.

My best friend picked this for her funeral song
Jean Maurice Eugène Clément Cocteau (UK: /ˈkɒktoʊ/, US: /kɒkˈtoʊ/, French: [ʒɑ̃ moʁis øʒɛn klemɑ̃ kɔkto]; 5 July 1889 - 11 October 1963) was a French poet, playwright, novelist, designer, filmmaker, visual artist and critic. ¡¡¡¡Elizabeth Fraser is The Best !!!!
Great music when Tim Buckley on the monkee show great
Actually Tim composed the music to a poem written by his friend Larry Beckett.
I said about on the show the monkeey sounds better on the show
@@bryanforis1839 sorry, my misread.
check out anything from Cocteau Twins album Treasure. Elizabeth kills every song. one of the greatest voices ever imo.
She sing it as a folk song - like an Irish dirge.
Today i was boxing to This Mortal Coil xD
A hint to Americans; keep your mouths shut and your ears open when listening to a masterpiece like this. You can't help butting-in, can you?
Please react on "Write in Water" from Love Spirals Downwards (they have also made a nice cover of "Welcome Christmas") and "Into Dust" from Mazzy Star.
Legandary liz....
it was actually written by larry beckett, but the first version was by tim buckley
out pedanting the pedants lol
Not written by Tim. His friend Larry Beckett wrote it as a poem that Tim composed music to.
Sugar Hiccup
Liz Fraser is THE voice. You must check out the Cocteau Twins - try 'Cherry Coloured Funk'?
You guys need to react to ROSE BETTS version. The best cover so far
Liz and Lisa jeeze would that be a concert or what.. It would sell out in seconds
Liz 💚
Cock toe twins.
I’m not kidding.
An incredible group.
Love you guys…I’m not much of a “heavy” or “hard” music lover but I enjoy and appreciate your point of view/reactions. Great choices too.
