Thanks for the video. I hear hiss when I'm on any level higher than 4. Is there something wrong with my H5?

So you can only adjust external mics but not internal recording gain for the L R channels? And my Zoom H5 says please wait a lot for very long times. It also is very picky on memory cards. Any help there?

Whenever I try and record anything on my H5 with gain set anything above 5, there is way too much hiss introduced by the H5 preamp. I never had this issue with my old Zoom H2!

What do you recommend? Recording up to -6 db to get the best impression of sound? or leveling it at -12db and perform a "normalize" afterwards in post production? Which is better? Is there a quality difference?

Helpful video, though for some reason, when I try to turn off channel 2, when recording with a single mic as you are in the video, pushing 2 to deselect it deselects both 1 and 2! Any idea why? Thanks.

Any tutorial for its limiter and compressor would be very helpful!

I think generally people don’t advise using any and to do these things in post. Obviously that is not the best option for everyone so hopefully he does make a nice video about this.

great, but you have to consider the distance to the mic too, i like using near the mouth with less mic vol. (4 or 5 for example) you have less external noise and the same voice volume on the voice

I have a Zoom h5 and am considering buying a Shure SM11 dynamic lavalier microphone. I know this mic will need a decent pre-amp with a lot of gain. Do you think the Zoom h5 would work well with this mic?

Hi 😄 The Zoom h5 does phantom power if required, and has a great little pre-amp built in, so I think there's a good chance it'll work well with that lav mic. But with these combos, it's always worth trying to see if you can get your local gear shop to let you try one out first, just to make sure. Or at least make sure your online store has a good returns policy - I've had plenty of instances where two bits of gear should work well together, but entirely refused to cooperate anyway!

Thanks for the helpful videos on the H5. I have 2 questions about my H5: one is that when I try to record on battery rather than plug-in power, the recording stops after a few minutes even though there is plenty of battery power left. Second, there is a noticeable hum on all my recordings...I'm hoping it might go away if I can record on battery power. Thanks if you can help me out!

What gain do you have it on? I think the h5 adds a lot of noise with gain above 4ish

@@frumiousgaming I've experimented w different gain settings but it's good to know you find it more reliable at 4 or lower. I've relegated to being a secondary mic now but I might as well get the most out of it. Thank you

Hey mate, just an FYI some of your affiliate links are going to a dead URL, so you might want to fix that. Thanks for the video.

I experience white noise when i use H5 as audio interface with mic Shure SM7B. It is constand white noise if gain is more than 4. Is there any way to reduce this problem?

I notice there's no white noise on this recording but my experience of this recorder is it has lots of white noise and poor pre amps. Just curious if you've used a noise reducer or anything else to improve the sound?

@Ben Thanks for the response, really appreciate it. I have a good focusrite interface but i like the mobility of the zoom. I've started recording lower on the zoom and using a waves L2 plugin to bring up the volume, which has helped. Hesitant to use denoise plugins as they tend to mess with the sound quality, but if you could recommend what you use that'd be great. Thanks again for your help

Are you getting the noise on the stereo mics that come with the unit. I have this and I think they are noisy. When I use MY Rode NT4 I get superior recording and I also have the stereo shotgun mic which is cleaner too. That being said, I don't think the stereo mics are that noisy, just not as clean as the other options.

I have a Handy H5 Recorder zoom. But I can't set it. I want to connect with a boom pole. Can you help me How can I do it?

    • @the_podcasthost
      @the_podcasthost  5 ปีที่แล้ว

Hmm.. you can't find a boom pole with the right screw connector? You'll sometimes need a little adapter which converts the little camera connector size thread to the wider mic-sized one. Should be able to get them on Amazon no worries!
