Excellent Review and THANK YOU!!!!!!!!! Because I already have some resistance bands and tubes, I went with just the bench press set-up which includes the bar, bands and the bench press device to connect the bands. I tend to work out alone in my home gym and this set will be safer than free weights not to mention a space saver.

I love and highly encourage the use of free weights, but I'm 100% happy with the band system that I'm devising and using.
Can the above average person build an equally impressive musculature with bands as with free weights?
If a well designed, intense, consistent training and recovery protocol is employed, I absolutely believe so.
      In my humble opinion...
How challenged your muscles are on a regular basis, no matter what causes the resistance, will determine how hypertrophied vs. atrophied they are.
The degree of the muscles' state of development depends on the intensity and frequency of the training overload placed on them.
Equally important is the quality, quantity and timing of rest and nutrition between bouts of resistance training.

    • @musclediy5838
      @musclediy5838  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

No not the same. Mainly in that once the bands contract there is less resistance, but as they stretch the resistance increases.
However you can apply enough overload to produce hypertrophy no doubt.
Depends on your goals and can be a long discussion, but here's a quick example.
You train strictly with bands and end up in a contest with FREE WEIGHTS and the lift is the dead-lift...
Your starting strength will be hindered greatly.
The weight off of the flood will be much greater than what you have trained with.
Bands are practically zero pounds at the bottom of the lift but increase greatly as they stretch.
That being said, can the above average person build an equally impressive musculature with bands as with free weights?
If a well designed, intense, consistent training and recovery protocol is employed, I absolutely believe so.

Are these more safer on the joints than regular weights?

    • @musclediy5838
      @musclediy5838  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

In many ways they are, but good form is always critical with any resistance training method.
In general, resistance bands are the go to tools for rehabilitation work, partly because they are less likely to cause injury. However some free weights and machines are commonly used also.
Joint damage is always a risk when doing any exercise, but I believe that it's less likely with bands because they are always accommodating your actual strength and release tension instantly when you stop resisting. Many machines are very similar and have also always been generally considered safer for joints.
For the record, I'm considering joint safety only here and am being careful not to be dogmatic. These are my opinions only and I'm not a doctor or expert.
Engage in any exercise at your own risk. No training is 100% safe.
Thanks for the question. I should do a video on this subject so I can get into it in more detail.

Just wanted to point a few things out. First off is there are a ton of bad reviews saying the bands snap after just a week-a couple months. Secondly the bands might not work well if you are on the taller side so be cautious. Thirdly if you buy off amazon and the bands break good luck getting your money back. Lastly the the op may not get paid for the promotion but he makes money from your link so their is incentive for him to give a good review not saying that it isn’t honest but it is something to consider.

@@musclediy5838 Difference between eventually breaking after a couple of years extensive use. And snapping after only a few weeks or couple of months like the many reviews for the Innstar.
The resistance bands are simply very poor quality on the Innstar! Hit and miss if they will last a few weeks or longer. Hence the many negative reviews on amazon etc.

What do you mean by hard on the body?

    • @ronsexton3685
      @ronsexton3685 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@musclediy5838 When you get into movements like deadlift you have to be careful about the bones in the feet. The plate on the X3 helps avoid this. Even over time it may become a problem with lighter resistance. I am now in my sixties and especially when older with perhaps less bone density, which may become less from the feet up like bone marrow, it may be even more important. And the bar looks nice for the weight for which it seems designed for, but i wouldn't want to trust it with a great stress.
In short, for lighter weight workouts it seem interesting. But for more strength building and heavier duty the X3 is way sturdier and practical.
If something snaps or that bar breaks it could be serious. But if only used for lighter workouts, which it looks designed for, or using it as it is most likely designed for, it's probably fine.

I don't like standing on any band.
I do recommend using something like the platform I constructed for dead lifts.
      th-cam.com/video/wFeg3h-_EBY/w-d-xo.html
I use the Innstar bands for squats with my DIY rack.
      th-cam.com/video/KMtn6UqsvHM/w-d-xo.html
I like them, the sleeves that they are encased in are a fail-safe in case they do burst.
It's been 8 months and I haven't had any issues.
Of course, any band, even the X3 can fail.
As far as practical, I looked at the X3. You get 4 bands, a small footplate and a bar for $500 plus dollars.
Check out some of my videos, I have what basically amounts to an entire gym
for less money. However, my labor is another matter lol

    • @ronsexton3685
      @ronsexton3685 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@musclediy5838 The X3 are actually bands where the INNSTAR are those tubes I believe. You would see the actual bands fraying long before any failure and there are actually videos showing what the fraying looks like and also X3 videos talking about it. And so far no fraying and you can use the Bodylastics Band Barrier to further prevent that if it is a concern for you. I am using the Band Barrier, perfect fit, $14.33. Tubes tend to just suddenly snap on you. Someone did complain on Amazon about INNSTAR snapping but with the shield the INNSTAR have I was unsure what that complaint was about. Perhaps just unhappy they broke.
Your platform is very nice. But does take up more space. And most people will not have it anyway. The X3 plate works fine and also involves the stabilizing action of the muscles which may be better as well. Some also had the INNSTAR bar break. I wouldn't want to try the INNSTAR bar with the X3 Elite band! But, again, fine for what the system comes with and is designed for. But some may tend to push it with loads beyond it's design limitations. Another danger factor. Not the INNSTAR's fault but still something to consider.
I feel it's designed as a lightweight system. The X3 Bar system, I don't know if I will ever need the Elite band and haven't ordered it yet even.
A little expensive? Sure. But quality stuff and plenty heavy duty for the vast majority of people that aren't Worlds Strongest Man competitors. :)

@@ronsexton3685I like the continuous, X3 type bands the best. I deadlift with them, use them for chin assist etc.
I just bought some from Rogue and they are very robust. (I'm making a video about them.)
I also use some from Synergee and they are quite adequate.
I agree about fraying and failure. I never wrap or tie them.
I use attachment methods that prolong the life of them as demonstrated in my videos.
Since my channel is based on DIY, the idea is to build a lot of the equipment, and also to use unilateral movements.
So I mainly use pairs of bands to mimic free weights and machines. X3 doesn't suit me at all in that respect.
It's not the price but the restrictive options.
I'm not an Innstar fanatic and am not sponsored.
I just like that kit for a lot of uses, and they have an excellent variety of resistances.
$549 worth of their gear, or Rogue's would be enough to tie down Gulliver.

Sounds crazy. I first time hear that there is a place where they do force people to do it

I’m debating between instarr and under sun. Why do you believe under sun is better? Thanks.

@@danny9405 to me, there are too many attachments to mess with, and sometimes with the handle attachment, you’re limited to where you can grip for resistance as opposed to the Undersun where you have a little more variation by moving up and down the bands. Innstar is not bad but I like Undersun better. When it comes to working out, you’re in and out, you get that with Undersun. Check out the many videos of Undersun bands by James.

@@SuperMan-gb3zp thank you very much. This is exactly the type of review that I was looking for. I was leaning towards innstar because I figured the attachments like the bar would result in a more comparable workout to weights and I felt like you got more for the money as opposed to undersun. I really liked undersun’s online presence though and I haven’t found too many negative things being said about the product. Thanks again, I’ll definitely give undersun a shot.

@@SuperMan-gb3zp Good points. I have some on the way.
One counterpoint just from messing with the heavy Synergee bands I have is this...
Gripping bare bands is a little awkward. I like bars and handles in that respect. But I get your point, simplicity.

Let's be honest, this is another cheap contraption made to look efficient and durable when in actuality, weights are just more reliable and less hassle. Who the fuck is going to stop every 5 mins to readjust this cheap shit? I'm not! Stop with the resistance bands movement and encourage more weightlifting.

      Sorry I missed your comment.
I am being honest with my opinion.
I don't want to go to a gym or have a ton of weights in my house.
I stop and adjust about as often as I did when I worked out in a gym.
So does Tom Brady, Jeff Cavalier (and he could work on a sailboat with his knot tying skills, by the way) Grange, and probably about a million other people.
      More power to you.
I do encourage weightlifting if that's what you want to do. I'm not anti-weights.

The INNSTAR equipment is awesome! Thanks for the review! I got mine though on their official website innstarstore.com as sometimes they have sales and the prices are actually more competitive. Anyway, thanks for the review, and love this home workout solution!
