I have a love/hate relationship with ETS2/ATS AI. They are really decent, they do some smart things too, especially compared to some other games; but sometimes they can be really stupid!
One time the lights turned amber and instead of continuing (like you would IRL) the van in front slammed on the brakes last minute and I rearended him. My favorite ai moment is when they overtake very slowly then there's a car in the oncoming lane and they stop. Seen it happen too many times.
2:46 Fun fact: In my country, the court has defended drivers like white-car. A few years ago, the car crossing at yellow signal crashed with motorcycle violating the signal. However, the court has determined that the car was also responsible "because he entered the cross on yellow signal". They've been making same decision over years and such urgent stops are legally protected, except for your life to be crushed by 30-ton trucks.
I would like to see police doing more than just standing on the side off of a road, I remember from some older 18wheels game that police would chase you if you exceeded speed limit, would be great feature in ETS/ATS as well.
On the plus side, if anyone plays ETS2 or ATS before they get their license, they have a leg up in learning defensive driving even before they get into a real-life vehicle.
So true, thats what helped me learning to drive. I’m so used to playing driving games. My brother installed a mod onto ATS and Gta 5, in Gta 5 it was a blinker mod and then on ATS i could use a AI car where im not driving a truck in real life, very helpful
If i had to guess, AI thinks you cannot drive faster than the law lets you, they calculate: "you should be driving max 80 km/h so i got time", that's why they run into your way. I realized it happens only when you're driving faster than you should

I make a comment on AI before but since then it have gotten worse, it's way over the top now snd and they are broken. Here are the major problems with both games. It's a must for SCS to do fix because the last time they did a fix in the AI was a couple of updates before I bought ATS in 2018 • AI don't yield when to incoming traffic, where its coming from another road or lane ending • In ATS, traffic is more more mind full when you're merging in the highway and let you on by slowing down or moving into the left lane but to ETS2 traffic you don't exist at all, so they'll merge into you from the left lane when you're getting on the highway. • Traffic stops abruptly when turning through a green light and then changes to yellow • They slam on the brakes when passing through random events or coming up to an intersection and there no body around and they don't even turn. • In ATS slamming on the brakes causing a traffic game where divided highway changes to 2 lane roads. Here's my little rant, I'm considering permanently turning off fines in ATS like I did with ETS2 until SCS does a fix on them because it's ruining my experience and its nauseating. My only issue with SCS is that everybody in the social media comments, on the forum and big content creators like Jeff Favignano spoke out about an fix/overhaul of the AI but SCS ignores us on it but they will fix everthing else. This is a huge deal because it's asked about on every update that drops.
0:57 Here that’s exactly what you have to do, at least in my country you always have to give way to the oncoming traffic on a left turn in an intersection.
@ You can see that the opposite traffic also has the right of way/priority. When that happens and you both have priority you have to follow an additional rule that says on a left turn you have to yield to the opposite from your POV traffic.
There's one junction in Munich (if you head towards the main town from the garage), there is traffic coming from the freeway on the right that doesn't give way too you no matter what you do. I also hate when I'm in a car mod driving on the Autobahn following all the rules and some idiot stays int he left lane. It's kind of realistic to have some bad drivers and I've actually been looking for a mod like that.
ai trucks often cut you off when trying to merge into the highway. I'd do what the local truckers in my country do when they encounter such stuff, kiss your side mirror goodbye lmao just a light swipe with my trailer
I think they should do something about the AI getting themselves unstuck. I like when they drive like trash cuz that’s like that irl but the fact that they just stand around like idiots when something is slightly wrong is very annoying
Onetime i was doing an oversize, this happened a few days ago. Some stupid car decided to ram into a freightliner and i got stuck there for 10 minutes cause they just sat there for no reason at all, pretty stupid right?
I seriously can't count the number of times I have seen AI merge into my occupied lane, come out onto a roundabout when I am in the lane or just ram into me. Frustrating.
I have bought a multi functional stalks and my I have assigned my keys but for left indicator it doesn't go off as I have cancelled it still shows left indicator and right indicator comes on its so weird, so inorder to cancel the indicator I hit the left indicator bring it back to its normal state and hit the left indicator to stop it 😢, please help me
4:59 I have this with BDF truck traffic mods. The trailer spawns inside the ground so often and whenever AI crashes into the mod traffic the whole tandem truck freaks out 😢 and it's not a fixable thing with crashing into it and righting it's direction. The trailers are really buggy. I had this with regular trailers and trucks too before though but less common

I remember way back 1.31 this audi a3 was trying to overtake a truck and i was coming towards it at a very high speed so i swerved into the ditched but that happened alot when i played
I observed that when Im going fast the AI goes stupid, i always rear end AI when they want to overtake someone to the fast lane and they do it late, it always happen to me when i drive a car
The AI can be realistic when it comes to behaviour and this looks way too realistic sometimes specially when you’re using realistic traffic density mod

You could make it by using the avoid pin in the World Map. Just mark it to the closed road section. On divided highways, make sure the pin is on the correct side. Also, those are detours. Random events are anything at add obstacles, but does not close the route. At worst, random events simply close a lane. Potential bottleneck, but still passable.

In this case you had to make it easier to enter from the right by moving to the overtaking lane but since it was already occupied you had to slow down so you could let the tow truck 9:06 you had to make it easier to enter from the right by moving to the overtaking lane that in this case it was free
Partly yes, if they would merge at a higher speed... You will have to slam on your brakes to like 40 km/h because they merge so slowly. Tbf I didn't slow down just to show that they would merge regardless of me being there or not.. 9:06 I would normally move over in such case, but again, I just wanted to show that they merge into the lane regardless of you being there or not, they will just crash into you

And drive carefully inside the ports when going to the Ferry because 99% of the time you'll get hit by some reckless AI!

1:49 and 4:25 are the actual dumb AI moments , the rest you could encounter IRL or dash cam videos (for example one butthead did the same to me IRL at 2:06)
Some of these are classic mistakes from AI but i would say 7:47 is on you. You overtook the truck on the right side and dont know the reason but sometimes AI stops in the merge lane and cant find a gap but sometimes they just drive into the right lane doesnt matter if there is a other AI or the player. 8:02 105 quite fast or? A switch to the left lane or little braking would work in these situations. 8:41 This also you drive above 110 and the left lane is blocked with less speed it wouldn't have been so close.
It’s actually well done, the ai is dumb af like real traffic! 👌 but yes this brake checking for no reason is the worse and it keeps happening to me aswell.
Those AI drivers should have their licenses taken off them and forced to redo their Driving theory tests also it would be cool to have an Insurance feature in the game so if you had an accident the insurance company will cover the player and the driver of the other vehicle
It's unfortunate how stupid they are on prefabs sometimes, cause it can ruin your experience with a large traffic amount. It shows that the AI was designed without the "what if they have to deal with random situations" safety behavior. They have no awareness on prefab intersections so they will always crash into each other 🤪
The AI needs to be improved to simulate more real life madness. Overspeeding, undertaking, sudden lane changes etc.. Currently the game lacks these instances.
maybe u have a vetter time, if u dont speed so much, i noticed that you often are above the speedlimit, so i are partly at fault as well. but ai on ai crashes are so funny, i get plenty of then as well 😂
An AI car exiting service area once swiped a truck right in front of me. We both were doing 80... You bet my *ss it costed me an arm and leg to repair my truck lol Edit: 6:55 yeah like this, except many times faster than I could comprehend

AI cars are nasty. They crash into things all the time. It's even more common now that they've been updated.

The road before the air ambulances should be blocked beforehand, though. Usually by firetrucks, police cars, or a barrier with merging sign.

The AI in both games is amazing if you think about it. Its so stupid, yet its so realistic at the same time.

All to keep you on your toes. I find the random incidents more annoying because the sat nav doesn't route you around them.

As annoying as they could be, situations like these is where blind spot monitor could be helpful (without assist).
I have once went in Romania. We were going 40 in an 80 on an almost-straight road because of an AI driver.

I think it's already programmed to be like this because it happens in reality. But I don't like the fact that we pay even if it's their faults

Is this AI behavior really without mods? In my game i didn't noticed such ai behavior very often.
I don't use any mods, it's g_traffic 4 console command. I don't notice it very often too, this is a compilation of clips I saved over several months
This is way I don't use extra traffic mods. The game becomes a circus with more AI drivers.
Also, congestion is not very enjoyable.
