incredible. clearly the greatest metal band of that era.perhaps just a more sinister version of judas priest, this lineup was as good as it gets.still unmatched for quality albums, these guys batted 1000 for kick-ass songs.nonstop all the way through. hard to beat, and just downright evil.
Finally I hear someone else say that. That’s been the mission link ever since. His beats were infectious. That’s what made fate so damn good. Well king too. And Michael. Well and Hank. And Timmy too. lol , the best line up ever.
I wanna know, for what reason, did they feel a thumbs down on this video is called for? This is one of the greatest metal bands ever playing one of their best songs!. Even the feedback kicks ass!! Thumbs down? How??!!
Yeah Mercyful Fate! This band awesome, ain't gonna say nothing about King, because well, he is fucking KING DIAMOND...but look at the guitars, the riff's are just amazing, Hank and Michael are one of the best guitars players in Metal...to bad they are really underrated...there aren't many "metal fans" who know then these days. Thanks for sharing this video, good to have a little taste of the old times, where they make real music, not this shit we have this days. Keep Rocking!
I remembering buying "don't break the oath" in cassette when it first came out. Instantly hooked, I then went the next day and bought "Melissa" in vinyl. So good!!!!
Fuckin awesome video!! Merciful Fate got me hooked when i was 12. I went from def leppard and quiet riot then I heard this album and it became all about Venom Celtic Frost and the pursuit of more extreme metal. Good times. Thanks for posted this gem
1983 - 1984 was the golden age of metal, and I was 13 - 14 years old. We liked Floyd and Zep too, but man metal was so fucking cool at that point - so over the top. Now, it's all been done...
El auténtico Mercyful Fate. King Diamond, Hank Sherman, Michael Denner, Timi Hansen y Kim Ruzz. Todo la musica que sacaron aquellos años era buena. España.
i know which one you are refering to i used to have it on vinyl, it was live with reyarp sdrol backwards for lords prayer. i dont think it had a name. but google mercyful fate bootleg albums and you should find it there.
WHAT?? Do your homework youngster! Mercyful Fate were around a decade before Mayhem and other bands that supposedly started the "Black Metal" movement. I was in middle school (14 years old) when Melissa was released and it blew everything away except for Hellhamer & Celtic Frost.. Mayhem did nothing but spend time on press releases and taking pictures..They didn't even play 10 gigs with Pelle aka Dead.. Tom Warrior was already signing in the style that Dead adopted. I was 19 when you were born!
@Bassbait I don't need to know anything about the band. I only need to know what they sound like. And I do. Am I allowed to dislike them..? Am I allowed to prefer classic metal over the newer crap on the market..? Am I allowed to believe that for the most part, modern metal bands are unoriginal copycats, nearly all of whom follow a very tired and stale formula..? Like I said in an earlier reply: you go your way, and I'll go mine. Peace.
That is fucking bad! The sound is damn good for something so old, and recorded live like that. Thats because they were a bad ass tight sounding live band.
@Bassbait Let me get this straight: you're saying that I need to know the entire history fo the band, before I can determine whether or not I like their SOUND..? Why..? Will the background and politics change the way they sound..? No, of course it wouldn't. What YOU are showing ME with your comments is that you're hung up on an image and bunch of background hype. I, on the other hand, am simply listening to them. And I was not impressed by what I heard. Not even a little bit.
@Bassbait First of all, SYL is not a "new band." They're a bunch of older musicians. Their singer is going bald, fer chrissakes. I'm glad that they finally figured out a way to cash in on the resurgence of metal's popularity. Secondly, I happen to prefer bands who are original, who are skilled, who do not rely upon a bunch of fancy computer tricks and digital sequencers to carry their sorry asses, and who actually believe in something besides money. Sorry, but you asked. No offense intended.
@Bassbait They sound like EVERY other band which has been around since 1995. Anyway... you go your way and I'll go my way. I don't like modern corporate metal. I don't like modern corporate ANYTHING. There are plenty of talented young people in the world today. The problem is that the disgusting music business won't give any of them a chance. If you don't fit into the "marketable formula," these parasites won't even sign you. THAT is why modern music sucks, compared to the days of old.
I agree, this was a great era. It was powerful to hear Mercyful Fate in 1984, the time and place in history was perfect.
A lot of amazing stuff came out of 1984, I think it might be the best year for music, maybe not so much in the mainstream but yeah
Sounds just like the record wow amazing
....No! especially not the intro
+bob z'dar
Right on, the studio version has a big classical feel to it. Oh well, they're still channeling Satan.
\m/ \m/
Haha you got that right...!!

Thank god for that...
