You sure are a reference when it comes to tractor knowledge AND you can share that knowledge too! On a funny note, that was the first time I heard about a dip stick being nice... Thanks!
Well Joe, she DOES add a bit of a flair with her comments and questions. LOL Thank you for the undeserved kind words....but appreciated nonetheless. Its got to go on the back burner for a bit because of preps for winter that need to be addressed.
Add water mixed with molasses put in cylinder that is locked up add ratchet strap fix to frame...in a day or 3 the engine frees up! Molasses and water frees rust 😎👍
Now that's something I've not heard. I will register that to memory and try that on something rusty. I've already gone another route with this one so it's too late to try it now. Thank you for the tip. That's one of the coolest things about youtube, new suggestions are always there.
Wow!!! I love that engine stand Mr Wendell!! That is awesome!! All out of scrap laying around and out of the dumpster 😉😉 Very detailed video of the whole process, which I absolutely loved!! Meted by the Mrs being there for the reveal!! 😁😁😁 Doesn't look near as bad as what I thought it would really!! I bet that number one piston is gonna give you a fit for sure !! Off subject 🤦 but hoping to start rounding up the parts for a big overhead pole system similar to yours!! Spolier...but I unloaded a piece of equipment the other day, and with the loader cylinders not holding, it was impossible...had to wait for my buddy and still was a challenge!! I don't think it will be near as elaborate as yours but similar in desi g hopefully!! Man this series on the case is epic, can't wait to see what's next!! Thank you my friend for bringing us along the journey!! 😁😁😁😁👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Yeah Nelson, we try to make the majority of our projects out of salvage materials. I spent my whole career pulling discarded steel out of the jobsite dumpsters and salvaging what I could off of demo projects BEFORE it got to the hoppers. My brother did the same thing, but he had a 12 year head start on me. LOL. Except for the superficial rust and a little pitting on a couple cam lobes it really doesn't look too awful bad. Sooooo....I can see another project coming down the pike with what you described above. Good deal. One suggestion is to build it as high as you can. I still run into height issues with this one. Keep your eye on farm auctions, that's where I got most of those chainfalls. I got two with one six dollar bid, but several others were just dropped off by friends whose g-pa died and they had no use but figured I did. So you can't have too many of them. Thank you for the cool comment once again my friend. Have a great day buddy !!
@@tractorman4461 Man yeah, dumpster diving at its finest!! The treasures we find!! That's great to hear on the case, can't wait to see more!! @@Pennies_on_the_dollar I always made friends with the job superintendents because a lot of times, metal is ordered wrong and has to be re ordered. First time I’ve ever seen that done. I really enjoyed it. My question is how the heck do you keep track of all the nuts and bolts you take off and get them back where they belong? Awful lot of parts! Stay safe my friend.
Well Bob, like an old friend told me.....'It'll only go together right one way'...LOL. I cut scrap boards and align all the stuff in order, with the 'front' marked. I'll run screws in the board and set the main bearing caps over the screws...things like that. Or like all the holes in a board for the push rods, a zip tie to hold them in place. To keep the rod caps with the right rods/pistons I'll finger tight the nuts back on the caps....little things like that. Thanks for todays comment my friend.
Once I hone 2, 3 and 4 with the flex-hone filled with the little balls of stone I will see how much pitting is there. Hopefully it is just superficial and they'll be good to go. I'll need one piston though and a whole ring set and I haven't gotten to the cam and lifters yet. They might be rust encrusted too...
The Missus was getting on me just yesterday about getting back to it. So no, its still on one of the engine stands awaiting shop time. I do have more disassembly videos I haven't had time to edit and upload yet, but there's always more important outside activities that seem to come up. We WILL get to it eventually though. We always do.
The Missus says "YES, and he's got his old man mask on too....send chocolate !!" She has a soft spot for chocolate...LOL My oldest daughter makes those shirts for me. I like them a lot and try to not get 'em too dirty out there in the shed.
Wendell, roughly how long will it be before the Case will be running, just an idea? How hard is it to get the seals and gaskets for your overhauling projects? Nice to see the Missus stopped by to inspect your work and progress. Always nice to hear her upbeat voice and enthusiasm. Have a great rest of your week and be safe.
It'll probably stretch out a while because I don't know yet if it's needing any machine shop work Mike. If that's the case the time frame will be at the mercy of their schedule. The camshaft looks to be pitted on a few lobes and if its more than superficial, it will need replaced. If that's the case, the cam bearings will need to be changed and that's one that I always have a machine shop do because I don't have a cam alignment tool....which is essentially a set of cones that allow perfectly centering of the line of bearings. The tolerance is so close on those it's nearly impossible to install them without the tool with a high degree of success. Especially a shade tree hack like myself. So I don't have an answer for you with so many variables.
I guess you found that bolt inside water pump. Did you remove the injectors from head before you took it off? I am trying to avoid removing the injectors if I can.
This is the first time, I've heard a dip stick referred to as "cute" hahaha. I do hope that number one is not stuck too badly. ( If you had easy and low cost access to one ) this would be a good time to use a 'hot tank' for that engine block after full disassembly, wouldn't it?
Well Reg....there's this thing I got in the lean-to recently that I've never plugged in yet....I don't even know if it works but it sure looks like something that would come in handy on this dirty and rusty old block !! There just MIGHT be a video on it if it comes down to it.....LOL I wonder what the solution is that's used in a hot tank....any idea ! Is it just the standard parts cleaner or some chemical filled solution....asking for a friend. (-;
@@tractorman4461 Actually, there was one of those tanks at my place of work, back in the 1970's,... and it was caustic soda! Strong stuff and fume that would clear your sinuses, I can tell you, but boy oh boy,. it sure cleaned those engine blocks. Having said that, the 'hot tank' had rather heavy, 220 VAC heating elements in them, so it was scalding hot caustic soda solution too. I wonder if you can buy that soda today? When last I made use of a hot tank, it was at an engine rebuild shop and they did my two Willys Jeep engines,...( no charge ) but of course I bought all my engine parts, Crankshaft regrind, new cam shaft, pistons and rings etc. I needed, there too.
@@regsparkes6507 I might have to do a search and see what is suggested for use this day and time....but I gotta make sure it even works first. It'll hold a V-8 block standing on end. It has a large sump, pump and heater. Two doors that swing open to the front as I remember. I'm hoping its 240 v single phase, because the building it came out of doesn't have 3 phase 480v available.....I hope. Those little flatheads are fun AND reliable ain't they. I really like them, so simple too.
@@tractorman4461 Oh yes they really are, fun to drive AND build too. The hot tank we had used an overhead crane to lower the block straight down in, i.e. open top, so more light a large cubic vat. We often joked on which nasty customer would we like to drop in there! Evil minds at work you see! :)
Hahahaha....you are certainly right about that. But the thing to remember is they only go together correctly one way.... I do have to stop and think sometimes though. Especially if a lot of time passes or another motor is torn down in the mean time. I only have soooo many brain cells.

@@regsparkes6507 Oh MY !! But I can see that being a conversation. LOL
Motors are not bad To remeber automatic trans a lot more parts
Hahahaha....you are certainly right about that. But the thing to remember is they only go together correctly one way.... I do have to stop and think sometimes though. Especially if a lot of time passes or another motor is torn down in the mean time. I only have soooo many brain cells.

Can't say it looks too bad in there. Could have been a lot worse.
Yes, I was happy to see it in as good of shape as it is. I've had LOT's worse for sure.

@@tractorman4461 YAHOO! I’m tippin and sippin your way right now. I was working for Bobby this afternoon a will build a deck and some stairs, weather holding out. Have to find out all the building codes, some of which are very stupid in my opinion. But it’s nice to have some work that I can do when I can in between my stuff and I’ve instructed Bobby in the making of a fine CuppaJO. I got this e kitchen stove crankin and they say it’s going to 36 tonight but we shall see. As long as the leaves are still on the trees it rarely frosts here inna holler. A few houses up the open lawn can be white with frost and not a speck here. But the plants are in, the greenhouse is full and I’m toasting my 44 Family to the West! Now what could be better?
