  • So you were asking for some preamplifier recommendations to pair with Musical Fidelity A1 clone.
    This one is a great choice especially if you'll do the mod bypassing volume control on MFA1.
    You can get it here:

    or here if you prefer eBay:

    Thank you so much for taking the time, and of course the expense to produce these videos. This ChiFi gear is a beginner audiophiles dream, or it should be. We had nothing like this 50+ years ago in regards to affordability.

    I note the MBL6010d has more outputs but is over double the price

    Just what the Dr. ordered. Thanks for the great description. A while ago I asked about fuses. You mentioned you got one for your DAC. Which type/brand did you get and did it really make a positive impression? Can't wait for the next pre amps. How about two A1 clones and Bi Amp speakers? Thanks again!

    • @k4syx
      @k4syx  10 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@randynielsen9894 that was like 6 or 7 years ago when I had a phase for replacing every fuse. I had some European brands (I have to dig in one of my boxes to confirm brands) and some Chinese ones. I've finally settled with some Gustard and Aucharm ones - best price to value. And finally I've had them only in my sources because that's where I could hear the effect. Not so much down the chain, so now I replace fuse only in my DACs.

    Nice review of an interesting device. Since I own and love the A1 clone, I'm also looking for a preamp, but it should come with a remote control and maybe more than only one pair of RCA inputs. So if you ever come across something like this...? 😄

    Hi Greg - great and very interesting review! It is very tempting! But... The things holding me back: *no input selector* (I need at least 3 inputs: CD/DAC+BT, Tuner, Chromecast and I need 2 outputs: power amp and headphone amp) and I would prefer *anodized black* to match my other equipment (including Transaudio D5 Pro). Did it have no balance or was the Alps volume potentiometer a split one ? Also does the A1 clone sound better with its own volume controls or through the pre amp with its volume pots bypassed. Thanks and i don't recall a price

    • @k4syx
      @k4syx  11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Musical Fidelity A1 clone has two separate pots for two mono channels. These are not Alps and they are completely separate so it's hard to set volume correctly without affecting balance. Also, they are just in series with RCA inputs. But all in all this MF clone is just a steal with that SQ and 220-250usd price, highly recommended!

      @k4syx  11 วันที่ผ่านมา +8

      @@johnriggs4070 Thanks but that wasn't me with the Nobsound :)
      Passive means this is just large volume pot that should be (in theory) of good quality and it basically attenuates input signal. Like a voltage divider. This one is active, it will give you better sound quality. But if you own D5PRO then wait with the decision till you see C245 review as this one was meant to be paired with Musical Fidelity A1 clone.

    Looking at AliExpress I cannot see the version with the R- core transformer...they all seem to use feeble toroids; like a single 12.5VA.
    transformer or 2 dual mono 7.5VA ones.
    This alone would discourage me from buying these models as I am very familiar with the benefits of an overspecified transformer.
    Still a quality 50-100VA transformer would add significantly to the raw parts coat and drive the final cost way above the $250 price.
    But I would pay the extra $100+ just to get a more substantial transformer.
