Outside meddling is NOT allowed here - CHIAPAS, MEXICO

  • There's a Mexican neighborhood in the state of Chiapas where police and interference by outsiders are strictly forbidden. They handle all disputes (and even things like fixing their roads) on their own without the city's help. I know some people who live in this unique little neighborhood in San Cristobal, Chiapas and they love it BUT it's honestly not meant for everyone.
    In this video, I'm taking you on a full tour of Cuxtitali, talking to you about the customs of the locals, and trying to give you an idea of what it would be like to live in this very special neighborhood of San Cris. To live here successfully... you're going to have to live like a local in Mexico and not rock the boat. Do you think you could do that?

    These neighborhoods looked cool, and I'm all about personal responsibility and people taking care of themselves. That's one of the things I love about Mexico in general. I really like your perspectives and that it's not just the typical touristy stuff. As a new sub, wondering what drew you to settle in San Cristobal? I'll look back thru your videos to get caught up 😁. Take care, I really enjoy your videos! ☮️❤️❤️❤️😎

      Thank you so much! When I did a quick Google search of Mexico, San Cris was the first city that truly appealed to me. It looked so beautiful, the weather sounded perfect, and I could picture myself loving it.
      Ultimately, we went with Merida first because of their family-friendly community… but I’m so glad I got to finally move to San Cris!😁

      And yes, it’s very common to see people cleaning their sidewalks/streets… and because there’s less tourist traffic, I think it’s easier to maintain cleanliness❤️

    Hey we are planning to come to San Cristóbal the last week of June. Do you recommend coming due to the rain season? Or should we reschedule it? Thanks.

    • @PriorityFocused
      @PriorityFocused  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So it depends on what you want to do here... this is my first rainy season and personally, I don't think it's too bad. Usually it just rains for a few hours in the afternoon, although yes, we've definitely had full rainy days, especially due to nearby hurricanes.
      If your intention is water-related (like waterfalls and such) then I would recommend waiting til rainy season is over. Rainy season equals muddy waters, flooding, and strong currents... so not ideal for water-related scenarios.

    I love your content... you think about all the same things as me and are curious about the community and how things are organized etc. my impression about all the fenced off areas in that park is that its to keep people and animals out of the planted areas... maybe homeless people in particular. I know here in Guadalajara that many entire parks are fenced off with only one entry point. that way they can control who comes in and then lock the park at the end of the day to keep out homeless people and drug dealers etc. I love how in Mexico every third house or building is a business and this is consistent throughout the entire footprint of any town or city. its not like US or Canada where we have business areas and residential areas that are separate. and thats what makes it easy to live here without a car. you go out your door, walk 50 feet and you can get groceries! having said that I really dont know how many of these places that are super specialized in one product like paper decorations are able to survive, especially when there is one on every block? good thing Mexico has so many holidays! nice Air BNB. I checked the link but it seems to be permanently rented so cant really know the price. again, I just love how Mexico operates outside of government authority so often. it gives a glimpse of what life should naturally be like. and I am always amazed how nice the inside of Mexican homes can be even if the outsides are very plain and simple. cheers for another cool vid!

    In the past people used to call the neighborhood CuxtItaly because so many Italians live there. I wonder if it's still that way. The crosses on roofs are left over from Ia dia de Santa Cruz (May 3rd). It's the day of the albañil where they receive a special meal, cake, and other treats paid for by the boss or contractor. They decorate the houses they are building with crosses. Interesting video. I always learn something from your videos.

    Spent a few weeks in Chiapas doing a lot of hikes, went to chamul (chicken church ect), drinking, one thing I learned was that outside of San Cristobal they arnt huge on Americans / Canadians. They seem more open Europeans but they blame alot of their problems on NAFTA agreement. Do you enjoy living there? Expats living there are significantly effecting there cost of living many “digital nomads” don’t pay Mexican, or state (Chiapas) taxes.

    • @PriorityFocused
      @PriorityFocused  ปีที่แล้ว

      I loved living in San Cris! And haven’t noticed any issues with being an American there. I disagree that it’s the expats who are “significantly” affecting the cost of living there… but I understand what you mean. That being said, yes, I imagine many expats in general aren’t paying income tax in Mexico… The “digital nomad” title is widely used for a range of occupations, a lot of which wouldn’t consider themselves as liable for Mexican income taxes, and I tend to agree… especially since the US and Mexico has an agreement not to double tax.
