      Just watched you're second video
      You seem really settled and chilled and most of all in a happy life!
      The town looks very beautiful and colourful, and as long as it's safe for you and your son I wish you all the luck in the world
      It takes courage as a female with a son to move to a new place.
      I'm seeing that you are integrated as much as you can. Good luck from the UK 👍

      🥰 I’ll be honest that Merida captured me during our recent stay… At the end of the day, the best part was connecting with old friends and enjoying Yucatecan cuisine, again (highly recommend).
      Returning to San Cris, amongst some of the unrest and poverty, forced me to look closely to what really matters to me. And San Cris won hands-down!❤️
      See you in March!

      We currently live in the Greenville SC area and this week the high every day is 91-98 and humid. I just hide inside in the a/c most of the time…just miserable. Usually by October 1st the weather is fantastic. I open the door in the morning and a cool breeze blows in and it puts a huge smile on my face.
      I am ready to go out and enjoy life.
      The cool weather is really important to us, allowing us to go out, and enjoy life.

    Time is flying and we are now 4 months away ! As time gets closer I am re-watching lots of TH-cam videos about San Cris.
    We still have lots to do over the next 16 weeks, and toss in work and the holidays so we will be busy. Hoping to arrive March 12th, we think. Grab an Airbnb for two weeks, so Lidia can go apartment hunting. Hoping we can meet you and Alex for lunch or coffee or something. It does give us comfort that you guys are there as well as Karen and her girls. Makes us feel like we won’t be completely alone in a new country.
    Having 10 grandkids that may come visit, I am curious to hear what Alex thinks about living there and going to a regular Mexican school. Seems like an invaluable learning experience to me. Who knows, maybe some of the grandkids will want to come for extended stays.
    Anyway, counting down the days and super excited about our upcoming adventure !

    I love that you’re going with the flow. It’s refreshing to see someone just being and living and rally making the most of a decision. I don’t know about you but I do very simple things here in my home town (California desert 🏜). I go to eat out, we grocery shop, I occasionally go to the spa 🧖‍♀️ with a day pass to lounge with my niece, we walk the outlet mall and sometimes don’t even shop we just get out to walk and people watch. Really simple things that can be done anywhere. ❤️

    I lived in San Miguel de Allende...boring...then discovered Oaxaca--not boring! I'm an artist and need lots of connection to soulful people and the Chiapas state is amazing! I cannot stand the boring dull commercialism of San Miguel...yes the architecture is beautiful...but staid after a few months. All the retired expats with fluffy pillows and cold glances. It is the Amerindian communities that have the red blood...they may be poor BUT they have hearts of gold. Cheers and enjoy the crisp fresh air...or spin your mind down to Palenque and swim in the jungle streams with the cats and howler monkeys! Amazing this state. Blessed by the Mayan gods.

    perfect video for me right now. I've been living in Mexico for 2 years myself. for the last year I have been based in Guadalajara because I have a girlfriend here. we are planning to go to San Cristobal / Chiapas in August during her summer vacation from being a school teacher. we both prefer the cooler climate you can get in higher elevations. right now it's unbearable here with the summer rains being 3 weeks late - 35-37C most days. I'm hoping to have a good experience there and I have thoughts of possibly moving there. with the cheaper prices I could probably afford to pay all the expenses for both of us... and she could quit her teaching job. though we have discussed it a few times and she is not as much of a risk taker as me. she only pays 2000 pesos a month for her apartment in GDL and still has a daughter in her early 20's living at home. anyways, enjoyed hearing your thoughts in this video. I think we have a similar approach to life in Mexico. I am more interested in the boring day to day life than I am about constantly socializing and doing "exciting" adventures. cheers!

    So glad I get to view San Cristobal from your charming perspective a while longer. I just bought a small place in San Miguel de Allende to spend my summers in. I fell in love with that town as a college student and now at 66 I can own a little slice of it. I’m so excited! I’m also moving from Southern California to Phoenix pretty much at the same time….can you see why I’ll be spending extended summers in SMA? Haha! The temperatures in Phoenix are in the 3 digits every single day, although they cool off to 95 overnight haha! I’ll be making my way to visit Chiapas once I’m settled. Keep enjoying!

    • @PriorityFocused
      @PriorityFocused  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Tuxtla airport and their taxis are safe. If you are in route to San Cristobal, the passage there is also usually safe. There are sometimes blockades on the road to San Cristobal, if that’s your destination. They happen a few times each year, and often in the morning/afternoons… Taxis (and all the transportation services) usually are informed as soon as they occur… I’ve never gotten caught in one, although once, my bus had to take an alternate, VERY winding route to avoid one (this was going from San Cristobal to Tuxtla).

    • @PriorityFocused
      @PriorityFocused  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you are staying in Tuxtla, once you are in the city there are a lot of taxis and you can use uber, as well (no issues with uber there).

      @PriorityFocused  ปีที่แล้ว

      Welcome to San Cris! So I will say that to my knowledge, I don't think any of the schools have a "Spanish as a second language" program here in San Cris, so I would probably recommend taking some time with a tutor to learn the language...
      There is a school here that focuses on language... let me see if I can find it!

    I wouldn’t say it’s walkable for older people with knee problems. The sidewalks are often too high. The cobblestone is hard on the feet. The angle of the driveways are essentially steep. I’d move there in a heartbeat if it weren’t for this reason. Other Mexican cities, like Oaxaca are much easier to navigate.

    • @PriorityFocused
      @PriorityFocused  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      So you make very good points! I once had an older gentleman ask if Merida was wheelchair accessible, to which I answered no for similar reasons that you mentioned. He came anyway, and I had the pleasure of meeting him for a meal. Turns out he mostly just stayed on the streets vice attempting the sidewalks. So long as he avoided busy streets, he was good.
      I learned from him to walk on the streets more than the sidewalks because yes, the sidewalks are not ideal! And as I look around, there are several here who have the same habits.
      Fascinating to hear that Oaxaca has better sidewalks! I felt Valladolid generally also had better sidewalks compared to Merida or San Cris… 🥰

    FWIW, to get from San Cris to Palenque currently, Ado buses appear to be taking the long way through Villahermosa, i.e. 9 hours! Going through Ocosingo, it's only a 200km trip.
    Itchy Boots, a TH-cam channel by a solo woman motorcycle traveler, recently came through the area. Between Ocosingo and San Cris, she took off out through the country to avoid the roadblocks. So it's still an issue.
