Athens is both the capital and the largest city of Greece. With its urban area's population numbering over three million, it is also the eighth largest urban area in the European Union.
Athens is one of the world's oldest cities, with its recorded history spanning over 3,400 years. The city was named after the Greek goddess of war. It is widely referred to as the cradle of Western civilization and the birthplace of democracy.
From 900 BCE onwards Athens was one of the main centres of trade and prosperity in the region. The leading position of Athens resulted from its central location in the Greek world, its secure stronghold on the Acropolis and its access to the sea, which gave it a natural advantage over it's rivals. Athens, together with Sparta, led a coalition of Greek states that repelled the Persians. The decades that followed became known as the Golden Age of Athenian democracy, during which time Athens became the leading city of Ancient Greece, with its cultural achievements laying the foundations for Western civilization.
By the end of Late Antiquity, Athens had declined due to attacks by migrating peoples. It was relatively prosperous during the Byzantine era and the Crusades, benefiting from Italian trade. In 1458 it was conquered by the Ottoman Empire and entered a long period of decline.
Following the Greek War of Independence, Athens was chosen as the capital of the newly independent Greek state. In modern times, Athens is a large cosmopolitan metropolis, central to economic, financial, industrial, maritime, political and cultural life in Greece. The heritage of the Classical Era is still evident in the city, represented by ancient monuments and works of art, the most notable being the Parthenon.

Finally the Athens video is out! This is a short one focusing on the touristy areas. There will be more: a longer video where I go into the areas of Athens that are less travelled; the one where I climb Lycabettus, the tallest hill in Athens; the one where I see Kolonaki, the posh area of the city; and also a few videos of that little shopping mall called Mykonos.... Subscribe now, so you don't miss them!
Real sound and no selfies - perfect!
This genre will take off in the coming years and replace traditional vloging.

This is beautiful
Amazing stuff ☺️
That's nice
Beautiful people❤
Ok. What a video, wow this makes me want to go there even more, when we go it's always to the villages that my wife grew up in and around. I would love to go for a year and experience all of Athens. We have some friends that live there so it wouldn't be that difficult. Thank you so much for the walk through. I liked seeing everything especially when you climbed the hill with all the little old houses that built together. I do wish you could have explained some of them but then that would have taken away from the experience. Looking to see more thanks again.
Thanks for the comment! Those are just residential houses with no particular history. But on my next trip I'll spend more time in that area.
Waaaooo so nice for tour
Nice one ✌

Me gusta el vídeo 👌
Hi Dear, shortly I will land to Athens. But at same day, I will fly to other country. The duration
b/w landing and again departure from Athens airport is 6 hours. During this duration, I just want to go Syntagma through X95, and want to see glimpse of acropolis (only outside), Sucrate Prison, Temple of Zues, and Olympic Stadium. Will it be possible?
If you move very quickly.... The bus ride alone takes 40 minutes... Maybe drop Socrates's Prison from the list as it's a bit out of the way, then it might be possible.
Freed the independence of human diversity: the paths always are abundant on way
Xd una parte del vídeo donde hay un barrio con grafitis se pare mucho un barrio de Jamundí
Donde en Jamundi? Deme adresa, I'm curious :)
Creo que el se refiere a un barrio en las afueras de la ciudad de Cali, Colombia. solo que las tiendas tienen cierto parecido.@@walkandcamera
The word plaka does not mean old in Greek.
For a second you d feel like in Carthage minus immigrants
It's a very special place.
My account has been hacked. Help
? How may i help you
I did not think that Greece is so ugly and poorly maintained..... what a disappointment... graffities all over
It is quite run down, but it's still a nice place imo... And I didn't show the worst in these videos.
Go to Switzerland
I will.@@meechos1998
@@walkandcamera unfortunately you are right! the graffiti ae the worst thing its my city and i cant bear going for walk in these areas 30 years agoit was beautiful
athens screams "fix me put some greenery or nuke me to end my suffering"
I likewise had that impression... Although that also contributes to the feel of the city.
What a pathetic and misserable thing to say about my lovely Athens my friend from Piraeus port . Η Αθηνα , Athens has a unique vibe that you couldnt find it nowhere else in the world but in order to understand this you must have traveled a little more than you did.
