  • The is a GUIDED WALK which is ideal for visitors or tourists wishing to explore central Athens on foot.
    It is an easy walk which whilst only being approximately 3km in length, will take a whole day should you wish to explore the centre of Athens, stopping at the various sites we pass on the way.
    Starting in Syntagma Square, a hub for Athens transpiration we visit the Greek Parliament, The old Royal Palace and the Hotel Grand Britannia.
    Then walking down Ermou Street, the main shopping street in Athens we come to the ancient Greek Orthodox Church of Panagia Kapnikarea.
    We then walk on to Monastiraki Square, before exploring the Monastiraki Flea Market. From here we move to the Ancient Agora of Athens, and then onto to Hadrians Library.
    From this point we start the walk up to the Acropolis of Athens, passing the old Roman Forum of Athens and the many restaurants in Plaka.
    On the final leg to the Acropolis we stop at the Areopagus, the ancient high court of Athens located on a rock with amazing views over the city.
    We then see the entrance to the Acropolis itself, before showing how to get a taxi or bus at the end of the walk, should you wish.
    If you wish to HIRE A CAR to Explore Greece I suggest you use a comparison site.

    Have been to Athens almost more times than I can count now. But even the "most expensive" spots aren't really that expensive. A lot of my Greek work colleagues like to diss on Athens, but that's only compared to the pure bliss of the Greek islands and other less touristy spots on the mainland. Compared to many other famous cities in the world, Athens is a real gem. Thanks for the tip about Kali Zoe restaurant! Gonna check it out next time (and there *will* be a next time ;-)

      I agree, it is all relative, price wise at least, but in Athens for me, more than 20 euros per head is going to the pricy side, though you can obviously spend a lot lot more! as always, appreciate both your comments, I really do enjoy the feedback!

      Thank you very much, I really appreciate your feedback. I am trying hard to improve my camera work and editing, both of which are relatively new to me. I hope you enjoy some of my other videos too. I like to cover less popular destinations and explore a bit, but they aren’t always well viewed unfortunately.

    Really nice video. I'm planning a trip to Athens soon and this is much more helpful than maps. It would have been great if there was footage of walking to Pathenanon. Did not see many street signs (typical of Europe) and I'd hate to lose my way ...

    • @GreeceExplored
      @GreeceExplored  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The centre of Athens is easy to navigate, Ermou street runs right though the centre and is a good reference point, as is the Acropolis, which is often in view. It is a great place to explore.

    Take a close look at the rifles the Tomb Guards have. They are M1 Garands from WWII. Last I heard (video author may know more since he's there), those rifles are still 100% functional.

    • @GreeceExplored
      @GreeceExplored  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I am not a gun expert in anyway, but I would be surprised if they are not functional. Glad you enjoyed.

    Great video's! Planning to visit around christmas. Can you advise on which areas you should stay as a first time visiter to the city? I hear that only Plaka is safe but its very limited and mostly expensive.

    • @GreeceExplored
      @GreeceExplored  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks, glad they are useful. Plaka is great, but anywhere in the centre is fine other than Omonia . Syntagma Square, Ermou Street etc, plenty of hotels from grand palaces to little boutiques. Be cheaper off season too. If the centre is too expensive could look at somewhere like Chalandri, Olympic fashion hotel or similar but is about 15 euros in a taxi to the centre. You are best off in the centre.

    Thanks for sharing. I will be there with my son and his friend for his 21st birthday, any special restaurant you would recommend?

    • @GreeceExplored
      @GreeceExplored  ปีที่แล้ว

      I wish I could, I am afraid I don’t know the smart restaurants well enough to recommend, but I would look at the local smart hotels, many of them have roof top restaurants with amazing views of the Acropolis! Happy birthday to your son too! You will love Athens. If you can take a trip to Corinth or Sounio too, the beaches from glyfada south are good too, voula for example.

    I found Lisbon to be much more pretty and romantic, and exotic and historic. Athens is like modern crowded city.

    • @GreeceExplored
      @GreeceExplored  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I haven't toured Lisbon, so I can't comment, but I agree, the centre of Athens is not romantic, but it is fascinating and historical.
