Meanwhile the knife man just cuts your belt off and slices through jeans. Or impales you down there while trying to remove the belt. Granted with a easy release belt and distance? Yea you can maybe stand off. But a real aggressive knifer will adrenaline rush you and a leather strap won’t keep away steel lol.

Here in Europe, this is already a World War II technique, but with a leather and steel military waist belt, not pearl canvas and abs plastic
Here, there was any atrocity or fight against soldiers, even in the slightest case, they immediately took off their military leather belts and then smashed the other person's head bloody with it, if there was a double wardrobe sized guy even so, they immediately smashed it to pieces with their belts
Only the steel metal buckle is good in this case, as you can work effectively with it, today's tactical belts and hardened plastic belt buckles are not good for this purpose

Back in the day, before I became a mostly pacifist... I used to wear a belt even tho I never needed to. Why?! For this very reason. I also use to wear what called a "smiley" too. Which is a big ass thick wallet chain with a pad lock on the end. I had somewhat of a reputation amd wasnt much into using guns or stabbies. I preferred more archaic modes of weaponry. Street Fighting. Everything you can get your hands on can be a potential weapon. You can kill someone with a flimsy plastic straw if you do it right.

it's a good idea, far better than trying to bare hand fight against a weapon. It would give pause if you have metal on the end, and maybe even dissuade them from attacking. Best option ofc is no confrontation at all, if you can avoid or run away, all the better.

Yeah I just had this conversation actually. I actually carry two expandable belts one naturally for General use the other one is a backup I have very loose wrapped around easy access. Just in case the drug addicts etcetera etcetera decide they want to show out like varicose veins. Especially on public transportation. I know for certain addicts can get very very violent to the point of death . Just the other week. An attic stabbed a passenger in the chest naturally the passenger died sadly. I'm always watching my background but if I'm walking around at night if coming from a second job. I keep a baton on me I used to keep two knives but now I just keep both of baton and a stretchable belt for worst case scenario.

I get that the belt is a solid weapon, but let's be honest here : if the guy with a knife is serious about attacking you, he isn't just gonna watch you remove your belt. If it's just my wallet - mind you, my IDs are always separate - it simply isn't worth taking the chance. If it's a bigger deal, or he's trying to fight me, that's another thing. You can always make space, regroup yourself and attack as needed, but someone with a knife isn't just gonna stay there and not attack you for a good few seconds while you *clearly* pick up a weapon yourself. If you need to run and then come back sneaking around to put them to sleep, do so. There is NO rule. No one is waiting for referee to start the fight. They WILL attack before you get this belt in your hands!!!

Not a viable option against smart opponents. Move back, parry "grab the belt if you can with that parry if successful you pull in on the belt to help you get in range, stab repeatedly" or if you aren't successful grabbing the belt dodge with the motion of the swing and rush inward then stab. Don't be afraid of the belt buckle it doesn't hurt that bad it leaves bruises and only breaks bones on precision. I know its easy to sit here and talk about this behind a keyboard and yada yada but I've been hit repeatedly with a belt buckle before and it really wasn't something that would stop me in a fight or flight situation. Hit me in the nose or teeth maybe but that good shot must be landed before I move within range or its game over pretending I was an attacker with a knife. Much love though keep making videos on self defense, I find most of them to be entertaining and informative.

A belt is not only used to strike with. It can be used to grab or choke. To distract and launch another more effective attack. I like a heavy jacket. It may not hurt you. But it sure can make it easy to land a very effective strike while protecting you from the knife.

Most are inexperienced in the street. Most martial artists are inexperienced. In a surprise attack only a weapon in hand is effective. Without something. YOU'RE DEAD!
      That said. Most
( not all ) that pull a knife are cowards that think you're a coward to. Retaliate with whatever is at hand. It's your only chance. My favorite move. Throw my hat in the face and kick the knee or the balls.

It's a shame you have such a weak leader. Sadly we aren't far behind these days
