6 years ago I bought 10 bars of wax, melted them all, and poured it all on to the board. Then I waited for it to cool, carved my name in it, and have never had to wax it since.
Wow - great video, man! I've been surfing for 20+ years and have tried many techniques. This is the best technique so far and my 6'6" is looking good as I begin an extended trip in Mexico. You rock, brah!
Indeed you can also wax up foamies as well, although generally they dont require as much work and you can just use a softer wax as a light coat without needing to do the base as well. Just enough to make it grippy :)
Top tip 1: Use the flat side of the wax in small circular motions to build up those bumps Top tip 2: Add some wax on the rails where you place your hands on a duck dive to stop them slipping Top Tip 3: Don’t use too much pressure, gradually build up the wax layers yo avoid smearing it around
I have a Little Marley soft-top due to your recommendation...thanks! Question, how do I REMOVE wax from my soft-top? Is it the same METHOD as a fiberglass board?
Glad you like your little Marley! Wax removal wise it’s very similar, but you have to be a little more careful that you don’t tear up the foam top with your wax comb. Leave it in the sun to melt up a bit and that should make things heaps easier 🤙
Hey Tommy! Once you’ve done the initial cost you can just do a little top up every couple of sessions or as and when you need it. I’d strip off all the wax and give it a clean coat every few months too
Hey James! I'd go with a base coat to start things off and then finish it with a top coat of cold water wax. Personally I like the eco waxes., but if you can't get hold of any then Sex Wax is a readily available and reliable option 🤙
Really depends what sort of board you’re riding Alicia. For mini mals and longboards I’d go all the way up (although personally preference) and for short boards just in front of where your front foot will be 😊
@@JoeCollins0409 most of them do require a light wax, some of the JJF ones have a texture top layer so you dont need to. 99% are pretty slick on top though
I usually do one round of main cross hatches then crack on with a mix of everything, you can go too wrong to be honest once you have the base, just don’t press too hard else the wax will smear / be patient with it!
Hey i just got wax because i didnt know you needed it and just thought that it was slippery but should i wax it now a couple days before i go surfing or when im at the beach?
I do a small top up before most surfs, but mainly just when it starts loosing grip. Worth stripping everything off and doing a fresh wax job a couple times a year or when the wax melts heaps or gets full of sand 🤙
Nope you can leave it on 😊 you then just have to top it up slightly before the next surf. You’ll only need to remove and relax a couple times a year if it builds up heaps or gets full of sand/dirt etc
I top mine up just a little bit before most sessions, and you’ll need to strip it all back and do a fresh wax a couple times a year or if it gets super dirty 🤙
I top mine up just a little before each surf (mainly where my front foot sits) and every few months if it gets full of sand or whatever I’ll strip it all off and do a fresh coat 😊
I never thought I need a tutorial about waxing until recently when all my wax melted by the time I paddle to the surfline. I think I'm not putting enough wax
If you’re using cold or cool water wax I’d suggest going with a base coat first. If you’re using warm/tropical/mid cool you can usually get away without it 🤙
if you have a foamie I'd give it a light wax coat before surfing it - some foamies don't need it, but on the whole they tend to be pretty slippery without it :)
Hi Kamil! So for reapplying wax a small amount before each session or if it looks like a lot of wax has been removed. It’s also worth stripping all the wax off and doing a fresh coat a few times a year or if it gets full or sand or dirt. In terms of how to know when to stop waxing - basically when it bumps up nicely and you’ve covered the area you need. Wax wise in this tutorial I’ve used an eco wax made from soy and beeswax, popular waxes like Sex Wax a petro chemical based. I hope that helps 🤙

Wax on your rails is just going to cause friction with the water that you wouldn’t want, do not recommend doing that.

I think surf wax is a slightly different consistency - and skin to wax is much more grippy than skateboard to curb/poles 🤙
