Sushin Shyam is genuinely becoming an icon and I love to see it. So many of recent malayalam movies has his score and all of them are different and uniquely brilliant
The thing that makes your reaction so real and unique is you both don't talk unnecessarily when film is running (Like other youtubers)

The reason why they didnt take him to doctor post rescue is due to the cold weather he spent on that cave, They took him to near fire pit and make him warm by putting blankets.
That transition scene in theater is the best I have experienced in cinematic history! To your question, how did he survive...we all wondered too. But since it was a true story, we know that's exactly what happened. Also the real boys were only 19 to 20 yrs, so they probably didn't make a lot of rational decisions esp making him sit in the car for hours after rescue. They also wanted to keep it a secret from their village people.
They spent a lot of time interacting with the real boys before making the movie. The real boys were the ones in the opposite team at the tug of war scene. 😁

The cave in the movie is actually a set not a real location, that part of Guna caves is no longer accessible.
This is a complete set that was built. I feel this is by far Sushin Shyam's best work. No songs, but his BGM just sweeps you inside the movie. If it was not for his music, you wouldnt have got this invested in the movie.

It was not a restricted area back then, interviews of the real boys, they say there was no gate, the gate was built after the incident. And the song has a deep meaning, in the movie guna, which was shot in these caves has the same song.But in the movie its a love song.But in this movie the song changes meaning to a friendship song, and notice how the lyrics match perfectly with the situation, in the movie the male lead carries the female lead just like how his friend did. The song is so beautiful. This story also show's the journey of an atheist becoming a believer irl.

11:50 also before they sit him back in the car the police took al their wallets and al the money in it and gave them just enough to refill for gas on return, the doctor at the hospital helped them get out of that town, she knew some forest officials personally she called them up and helped these guys a lot, the police just wanted to file a case against the boys and extort as much as possible like most police do everywhere in the country. The director said he didn't add al that coz he wanted the movie to also release in tmail Nadu and not get the movie into trouble, he had to remove many such details.
Im from kerala, but Assamis movies are great. Village rockstar i watched it from film festival and Aamis too. Great films.
The pits in the cave are up to 3000 feet deep, hence the name devil's kitchen. He fell but got stuck at 130-150 feet.

Excellent review..you guys know so much more about the finesse of malayalam films than others, especially the northern side where Bollywood is considered as the face of Indian cinema. There are good films in all languages and I think as audiences we should learn to appreciate and promote good cinema wherever it is produced. My favourite actor is Thilakan, I'm yet to see an actor of his calibre in the entire film industry.
The actor who plays the role of the driver of their tour van is the director of movie Thallumalla, which I think you guys enjoyed watching.
Fun fact: some of the sound effects were made on a new instrument made by Sushin Shyam..

Tug of war for us is as important as Kerala boat race, we play it during onam, there's groups training for it every year for the annual onam "vadamvali" that is tug of war competition, if u observe these people are leaving to Kodaikanal during onam, driver says the big vehicles are all booked coz its onam season and subash tells his brother enjoy ur onam just before leaving, and thats why they are practicing it while discussing about holiday trip, coz its onam time. The real group were also training for the onam competition, i am sure they still do every year 😆❤
Somewhere I heard that there was no pulling system in the real case... So it was much more difficult to get them up !.... The friends did a really good job at it

After almost 20 years of the original event, Tamil Nadu govt announced enquiry into police brutality that happened to the original manjummal boys. They had to endure worse police brutality than what is shown in the movie.
I am sure this movie would have played in a theatre in LA.

Real experience is told to be much worse than shown here,they faced more torture at the police station than shown here Tamil Nadu govt recently ordered an investigation against those policemen and manjummel boys forgived them and requested them not to go with the investigation

Kazhcha is the only good film in that list I will recommend to a foreigner.. it has an international standard.. remaining all will be a good film for malayalees but not for others

he actually DIDN'T break a single bone. it was miraculous. he was however butt naked and covered in blood.
But he said had lot of internal injuries, dont know what al it was. May be coz he didn't have one big steep fall but he got dragged down in tunnel kind of narrow space with twists and turns, almost rolling down and not falling down. seriously what a miracle

Go for Anchakkallakokkan (2024). It's a very different kind of Malayalam movie from the ones you have watched. Although it may not be everyone's cup of tea, it tries something unique in that genre.
