I did that when I was in Jr. High. There was a rope connected to the top of the gym ceiling. I always shimmied to the top. If a 13 year old kid like I was could do it I would think these recruits could do it. Its really not that hard to do.
Beaver looks exactly like a guy that was in my platoon back in 88. They called him recruit Boo Boo. He couldn't shoot for shit, barely qualified. He was straight across from me in the squadbay. Every night the drill instructors would make him stand on his footlocker and sing I don't need no sight alignment I don't need no breath control. To the tune of Pink Floyd's another brick in the wall. I stood double firewatch many nights because the drill instructors would bust me laughing.

I went to MCRD SD in 93. Back then you could use the rap around method but if you had the strength to just climb the rope without your legs they let you do that too. I just did that. I thought that was easier then the rap method or whatever its called.

It is bullshit. They will tell recruits who struggle they are on trail training. Basically it means nothing but most of the recruits don't know that. They will say a recruit is on trail training in hope that they will start to do better.
For those who doesn’t know what a trial training is. It a 10 days training and if you failed you get kicked out of basic training and only a few get out into it cuz their the worst of the worst like me. I got lucky but barely passes my trial training and I was really one of those worst recruit that tried to make the DI laugh any chance I get
What I don't understand is how or why would you ship to boot camp and not be as physically prepared as possible... You know they're gonna push you to and beyond your limits, so the best thing you can do for yourself is to be as ready as you can be.
BC its more of mental game than physical. It isn't SEAL training, USMC bootcamp is supposed to teach you discipline and Marine Corps customs and courtesies. You cant PT, they'll make you PT until you pass the standard. Saw it when i went through. Food blisters that could only do three pull ups in the IST were doing 15+ by the final PFT and running less than 20 mins three miles. The DIs say it themselves, the fasted way out of the depot is through the parade deck.
Donovan Cardenas Yes I completely understand they are going to push you past the standards, but not being able to do something as simple as climb a rope is a bit ridiculous, especially when they demonstrate the proper techniques of how to do so.

Climbing a rope isn't the only thing that does protect you.................. And depending on what part of the world you live in, the last time the security of the country that you live in was SERIOUSLY threatened, your grandfather wasn't even born yet..................(8^/

I never did the wrap. Just monkeyed it up, you can't slow down, maintain the momentum.
It took me 7 seconds to do the rope climb, but there was one recruit in my platoon who did it in 6. Platoon 2007, 1970.

The recruit has been instructed on how to use the rope as a brake but he forgot. Some kids just need a little more instruction.
