Well, German and Norwegian are in the same language family. German and the other Germanic languages in Mainland Europe (excluding Scandinavia) branched off of Norwegian (or Nordic, to be more precise). But, it still takes skill for a German to understand Norwegian. Very cool!

I live in Norway and they clearly talk Bergen dialect, and that's quite different from Oslo's dialect (bokmål) 😉
