This just reminds me of the 2004 Team USA. A weird mix of old established veterans and young rising stars being brought together that looks good on paper but having no continuity and culture.

But they lost in the quarterfinals(!) and then against Serbia finaly beating Czech republic grabing a 7th place. Also the international game is a better team game. There was a cross over element when the international teams were too team based and isolation players could beat them. Now they have enough NBA talent players and still can run the international team game. These guys also play far more often together than the US teams which are essentially all star teams with some real coaching.
It's looking grim. I saw their practices and they essentially had Embiid as their point guard and never even passed the ball to Curry. They had a lot of turnovers as well. The scrimmage team looked livelier. Not sure any of the perfumed princes on the Team USA felt like playing defense.
Team USA would be one of the best teams ever assembled if this was 2018. Canada might actually do pretty good just because they have some young NBA players like Jamal Murray and Shai. Maybe not win gold, but definitely bronze material.
Another huge difference in FIBA rules is that you are allowed to swipe the ball off the basket after 1 bounce even though it's still above the cylinder. This is something which team USA will have a hard time adapting compared to the Europeans, and also makes true centers even more valuable

There are a lot of players, both in USA and overseas , that would be good NBA starters if you gave them the usage and leeway to do it.
The issue is there's only so many starter spots in the NBA , and they tend to go to the guys the team and the stuff knows or has invested in.

My only bone to pick with this video was him saying Lebron was " the USA basketball player of the 2010's". He didnt even play on the 2016 team. More appropriate would be Kevin Durant as he was a high contributing factor on all those teams 2012 and 2016 and even the 2020 team that played in 2021 and dominated those matches.

Its kind of strange how easy everyone forgot about 2019, as if the failure of last years world cup was unheard of. That team was probably even worse, led by Kemba and a young Boston Celtics. But they lost in the quarterfinals(!) and then against Serbia finaly beating Czech republic grabing a 7th place. Lebron has actually got an oppurtunity to fail to get a gold for the thrid time in worls cup and olympics, becomming an historic three time bronzemedalist😂. Thank you Noah Lyles for making people care about fiba tournaments. Another thing the media overlooks is that a lot of the teams USA face in the world cup are also playing the "b-team", that was for instance the case when Antman, JJJ and Brunson lost to Lithuania last year. Serbia was also without Jokic and a lot of their top talent, still grabbing a silver.
Lebron isn’t taking a back seat to anyone. He wants to be the star and use this Olympic outing to try and pad his weak goat resume 😂 team USA is in trouble

Staying healthy and playing defense from start to finish are my concerns regarding this team. Booker, Haliburton and Kawhi even though the latter isn't playing anymore should've not been selected to begin with. I'd of picked a better cast to support the geriatrics.
That Spain team was one of the most decorated international teams ever. They have been playing together since youth and won medals together. People really underestimate Spain in those years because they dont follow international basketball save the Olympics.

Also the international game is a better team game. There was a cross over element when the international teams were too team based and isolation players could beat them. Now they have enough NBA talent players and still can run the international team game. These guys also play far more often together than the US teams which are essentially all star teams with some real coaching.
It's looking grim. I saw their practices and they essentially had Embiid as their point guard and never even passed the ball to Curry. They had a lot of turnovers as well. The scrimmage team looked livelier. Not sure any of the perfumed princes on the Team USA felt like playing defense.
Team USA would be one of the best teams ever assembled if this was 2018.
Canada might actually do pretty good just because they have some young NBA players like Jamal Murray and Shai. Maybe not win gold, but definitely bronze material.
Another huge difference in FIBA rules is that you are allowed to swipe the ball off the basket after 1 bounce even though it's still above the cylinder. This is something which team USA will have a hard time adapting compared to the Europeans, and also makes true centers even more valuable
