Exceptional work there m8. Just started binge watching your vids. I like all the little touches that you do the subtle changes that you dont realy see individualy as such, but realy come together as a collective. I started knifemaking in january of this year, after 20yrs of furniture/cabinet making and to me its all about the details, no matter how small. So i like to see others take pride in they're work and pay attention to detail. It realy adds to the final product, it makes our work stand out from the rest!!! Keep it up!!!
Is it me or is the sound of a belt grinder or files or even sand paper the most calming and relaxing noise, I could honestly fall asleep listening to it.
I actually clicked on this because I thought you were making some fixed blades out of D6 steel. It would seem I misunderstood the title. Still, great to see you're uploading footage of your work. Wish I could be in my shop as often as you are.
That's almost exactly what I'm looking for. A good size edc fixed blade with a kydex sheath and a thin handle. Keep the sheath a fold over design for smaller carry profile.
DB Blades ouch. I'll say a little prayer tomorrow and think of the pain that you'll sufferthrough until your grinder comes back. New batch of blades to be readied for heat treat.
Awesome blade design, I love the thin profile. So whats up with the majority of your blades being a chisel style? (not these but some of the others.) I think my verbiage is correct.
Watching your drill....I wish I could get mine down to 200rpm....mine only goes down to I think its 450 or 700...wich is for wood not metal...but I keep my bits sharp...use oil...and steady pressure along with little bites at a time...I don't hold the bit on the steel for too long....seems to do ok
I thought he might be taking the piss for a sec but no, he wasn't being an ass hole, there really is a grinder called a Noob. And it's supposed to be perfect for a noob / newbie
Explicit Blades Hm... So what can you still fuck up then? Do you have play in the spindle or shaft of the press? If not it might be you. If you have a drillpress it is usually impossible to not drill straight (as long as your press is straight).
Try a slower speed. I just killed two drill bits making a knife. Not completely sure how. but the bit i used was 3/8" and had it on about 2000rpm. When I drilled 4mm holes they were fine at this speed. So I am gonna try a slower speed next time for bigger drill bits. And use a lubricant.
if you have the time ,whenever theres loud portions of the video such as angle grinding or anything with the belts, could you turn down the volume of it? I've noticed other fabrication youtubers do this and it makes them a whole lot better to watch
Man that's one sweet looking knife you got there. A little like a Strider DB, but actually useable for cutting shit, rather than prying only. Just out of interest, what's the thickness on the blade? And, if i were to place an order for one of those, how long will i take you build one for me? Do you make them upon ordering or do you keep a few in stock? Also, would you ship to Germany?
Thanks dude. these are easily the best cutters I do since I grind them nice and thin and I do a serious distal taper. to answer your questions the thickness should be a little under 3mm. I start off with 1/8" stock by that gets surface ground down plus the taper thins out the stock a bit. If you where to place an order for one the wait is about 3-4 months right now. I do however have 2 in stock one of which is the blue one in the video and the other I finished up last night. Yes I ship to germany Here's my site dbblades.bigcartel.com/
I love the design and would love to have one, but dont have enough money to spend on a knife:( So pls count me as someone who would buy the knife and continue this design:)
And don't fuck it up. Grinds off template..... lol! These vids are great, the peeps get to see what they pay for. My Fave is the black with the stone finish. The fold over sheath is neat too, for the compact factor. Thanks for posting, looking forward to the next unexpected laugh! :D

i really appreciate the fact that you managed the volume when grinding. Not everybody does that and its so necessary. awesome knives
thanks man
ayy its my boy dom back at it again with another video expanding my materialistic greed for knives. youre awesome
haha thanks man
Is it me or is the sound of a belt grinder or files or even sand paper the most calming and relaxing noise, I could honestly fall asleep listening to it.
tell that to my neighbors XD
I would like to see a video of you doing the acid stonewashed finish. Your finished look great.
Great video man it's inspiring to see other Australian knife makers at work
"just be careful and don't fuck it up"- best advice
If I had the cash, dude, I'd buy one right now. Keep it up! Love the channel and the knives
thanks man

Dom, is there any video on how you do your sheaths? Yours are much more professional than others and I would like to see how you manage it
love those! the blue and black is amazing! great work as always sir
thanks mate

thanks, Got a couple on my site right now if your interested dbblades.bigcartel.com/
I’d use one of these in the kitchen for a pairing knife 100% this video is inspiring
you sure could, thanks for watching Chris
What are the bolts you use for the handles and how do you install them?
That strap on surface grinder really makes a difference. I dont know how i tapered or flattened steel before i got mine.
yeah man. Its out getting worked on right now so I'm back to doing shit by hand :(
DB Blades ouch. I'll say a little prayer tomorrow and think of the pain that you'll sufferthrough until your grinder comes back. New batch of blades to be readied for heat treat.
I’ve been looking for handle hardware like that everywhere. Where do you get yours from? Thanks!
I’m curious what would it cost me to have one of these made please?
Do blades those are some very beatiful knifes I would like to have some knifes just like them .that's a great job you did making them .
great vid! may I just ask what those screws are called? thanks!
Awesome blade design, I love the thin profile. So whats up with the majority of your blades being a chisel style? (not these but some of the others.) I think my verbiage is correct.
Amazing work!! Always a pleasure to watch. Was wondering the jig you used to flatten the steel at 3:10 though??
thanks. Its a 84engineering strap on surface grinder
what is AEBL steel, its stainless right? Used in kitchen knives? is there an equivalent?
yeah its a fine grained stainless. sort of like a drastically improved 12c27
Did you custom make your belt grinder? If not, where did you buy it?
its a wilmont grinder. They're not being made at the moment so I don't know where you would get them
You do amazing work. My goal is now to get one of your knifes.
thanks man, appreciate the kind words
what sharpening stones would u recommend for an intermediate knife maker?
just get yourself some cheaper water stones from the hardware store. a 1200 and 5000 will do
ok nice
That surface grinder attachment did u make it yourself?
nope, this is made by 84engineering
Where did you get the surface grind jig? did you build it?
its made my 84 engineering
Beautiful Dom! Nice job.
thanks

"Just be careful and don't fuck it up" that's pretty much the general consensus anyways
Those are gorgeous looking knives sir. Subscribed!
How can i get in touch with you?
I would love to buy buy some custum made knives for allot of money
email me man
2:30 the right tool for the job. ;-)
I've been watching a lot of your videos and you always mention or use g-10 and i was wondering what it is
g10's a fiberglass laminate material. Its super dense and pretty much bomb proof
Have you ever tried to make a balisong
nope, balisongs are banned over here
DB Blades you could make a trainer
DB Blades "TRAINER" right... *wink wink nudge nudge*
What do you use to paint them blue for marking? A simple marker pen?
nah I use a marker with layout dye in it
So, any peticular brand? Cause is hard to find it in brazil since there's no direct translation for "layout dye"
I use dykem
Muuuch easier! Thanks a lot mate!
That was great I was kind of missing you doing a build.
thanks man
Ever tried to blacksmith? I Reckon you'll do sick blades! keep it up!
hey db would it be at all possible for a au link for the little buddy grinder?
you can't get them in aus anymore unfortunately
that sucks i need one so bad.
do you have any recommendations on other good belt grinders?
the noob grinder seems ok
I thought he might be taking the piss for a sec but no, he wasn't being an ass hole, there really is a grinder called a Noob. And it's supposed to be perfect for a noob / newbie
how much does one of these cost
I always have trouble drilling holes in my knives... and tips?
Center punch more? Buy good drill bits? Use a vice and a drillpress?
TH-cam User I have titanium and cobalt drill bits, a drill press, and even if I do center punch it still doesn't work
Explicit Blades Hm... So what can you still fuck up then? Do you have play in the spindle or shaft of the press? If not it might be you. If you have a drillpress it is usually impossible to not drill straight (as long as your press is straight).
TH-cam User my drill bits seem to get dull very fast when I'm drilling into high carbon material
Did you ever try to make an otf?
nope, they're illegal over here
Wow those knives are beautiful! Too bad I can't afford one haha
thanks man
Why do you not make wooden handles?
I'm not really a big fan of wood, often it doesn't really fit the style of my knives
if you have the time ,whenever theres loud portions of the video such as angle grinding or anything with the belts, could you turn down the volume of it? I've noticed other fabrication youtubers do this and it makes them a whole lot better to watch
Gino o He does that.
TH-cam User lol I don't think so
I dropped the volume of the whole vid. But your right I should probably look into doing that
DB Blades small detail but it's still a good vid dude
Man that's one sweet looking knife you got there. A little like a Strider DB, but actually useable for cutting shit, rather than prying only.
Just out of interest, what's the thickness on the blade? And, if i were to place an order for one of those, how long will i take you build one for me? Do you make them upon ordering or do you keep a few in stock?

Thanks dude.

Yes I ship to germany
Here's my site dbblades.bigcartel.com/
just a heads up for someone who encounters red loctite, heat it up w/ a hair dryer and it comes right out
that works a treat, I usually use a soldering iron.
Ah, that probably goes much quicker. Thanks dawg
I do little knife projects and I'm so horrible at it I often fuck glueing the design of the knife on the steel.
what are those
what hardware do you use for your handles?
Young One Knives G10
I meant what style pins
Usually blackend titanium
usaknifemaker pivots
Thank you
Damn those 123 blocks where haulin ass
How much does it cost? I think you'll have a very good market here in the Philippines. You just need someone to introduce your knives to the market.
they're about 300AUD
DB Blades wow that's quite a sum of money but you'll never know. Someone would definitely buy those things.
what are the laws in Australia with carrying knives?
depends on the state
What stainless steel?
Aeb-l at 60 rockwell
Cheers Mate. Absolutely one of the finest knife makers on TH-cam.
thanks mate, thats quite a complement
DB Blades subscribed to your channel 😊
I know this is going to sound weird but use hand sanatizer instead of water to cool your blades just trust me
Loving the shorts lol.
Came out very nice

Useful, compact 👍👍💪
Glad you think so!
And don't fuck it up. Grinds off template..... lol! These vids are great, the peeps get to see what they pay for. My Fave is the black with the stone finish. The fold over sheath is neat too, for the compact factor. Thanks for posting, looking forward to the next unexpected laugh! :D
hahaha I think its pretty obvious at this point that I am by no means a brilliant man. Thanks for watching man
