UPDATE: OCTOBER 2021: So something seems to have gone wrong for a lot of you trying this - I believe one of the later iOS14 updates has changed something which means that Setting Playback Destination to the HomePod Mini isn't connecting as it should. I'm working on a solution and will update ASAP! In the meantime, just be aware, Siri will only play through your iPhone...

However, I have been having issues playing only one news podcast from apple podcasts. Even when I disable the continuous playing feature, the app keeps playing all the news until I stop the playback. I hoped this issue was solve in the latest update for apple podcasts but it is still an issue.

I’ve rapidly built up a SmartHome and recognize that adding new products will now consume less of my time but automating they home to take use of all of the tech is where I need/want to focus. This video was great as you’ve explained the reason for adding each step and not just that it should be added. This enables us end users to have a logic basis for figuring out what we want to do to customize this further. Thank you!
Very, very helpful. I have been looking for a certain solution, and the RSS Feed tip that you shared will work perfectly! I don't have a smart speaker, but I made a routine that runs on my phone each morning. I added dictation to mine to opt in and out of various actions.

The sound isn't automatically being transferred to my Homepod. What am I doing wrong? Does it have anything to do with my iPhone's airplay settings?

Will definitely look into this JH, you're right a few people have mentioned this. Can I ask, what iOS and HomePod OS are your devices running (so I can verify for reference)
I actually set up a similar routine to the one shown on the day that iOS 15 was launched. It worked perfectly when I was on iOS 14 early in the day. However, later that day and after installing iOS 15, it stopped working. I therefore think it is a bug with iOS 15 (or 15 changed a setting to stop you being able to output to a HomePod).
Great automation. I took out the destination audio so it just plays from my phone while driving to work. I also added a way to get update of upcoming events and task for the day. Thank you it’s been a game changer.

Unfortunately an iOS15 update disabled the automatic playback function by accident, so here's hoping that Apple fix this in iOS16! Regarding the RSS feed, that is all still working okay - what seems to be the problem for you?
As a general rule, our shortcuts focus on iPhone and iPad - because some functions of Shortcuts can’t be used on MacOS We’ve got a follow up video coming in a few weeks with a fix for the broken iOS 14 “set playback destination” but it can only be built on iPhone/iPad

Hi! I set everything up as you did execpt i set up a calendar and a not the lights, everything seems fine, the text plays on my iphone and than the radio plays on the homepod. What can be the issue?
Well spotted John - you're right that the lights weren't seen to be working in the video, but that's because we were using those lights to light up the filming shot at the time! The good news is that, we have a better filming set up now so this won't impact us in the future!

The weather gets played back in in decimal point format (ie 84.33 deg F). I tried messing with the 'round' shortcut, but it doesn't work. tips or suggestions?
Good question - I believe if you want to have the temperature in Fahrenheit, this is often a problem. To fix it, input a Math command which will round the number for you: A really good example can be found here -> i.imgur.com/VruLYbS.jpg (Credit to original author of picture, but it's anonymous)

I am having an issue where when Siri is speaking the good morning text, it sounds very gittery and distorted. Almost like when you’re losing cell service during a call. My wifi and everything however is very strong. Any help??

Hi Clinton, thanks for watching. This tutorial uses a trick which gets your HomePod Siri to read text, but technically the process is done on your iPhone - not the HomePod itself. The 'reading of the text' is played through the HomePod Mini using Airplay. However, with the right knowhow, this means you can make the HomePod/Mini effectively read anything you want. If you go into Shortcuts -> Automations and create a personal automation, by first setting the playback destination as 'your homepod' and then adding a text action into the sequence (enter whatever text you like) and finally add the 'speak text' Document command, you can get Siri to read any set text you would like. Similarly, you can get Siri to read webpages using RSS feeds etc. I hope this helped! (and sorry for the delayed reply! I've just got internet set up in my new house!)
Ensure that you set 'playback destination' to your HomePod/Mini - it should then play back through your HomePod! Hope this helped! (Sorry for the delay, we're now set up in our new studios!)
Looks like iOS 16 has completely broken this now. The speaking is fragmented, missing words out, or not playing at all most times. Also, the temperature readings include decimal points (for instance it says the temperature is 16.57 degrees). This is a real shame, as this Shortcut was excellent. Any ideas how to fix this?

This is a great question - I reckon there is a way to do this using the Time and Numbers functions within Siri Shortcuts, but it might get pretty complicated. If I can work out how to do it, I'll make a video on this for you Santosh!
@@HeyTechi One option I use is to make the last item in the shortcut to be: 'Start Timer for... x minutes' and ensure the timer setting on your iPhone is set to 'When timer ends... stop playing' - when the time has elapsed the music stops.
Or alternatively in an automation... set a Home scene to run that turns off all HomePod speakers based on the location of your iPhone. When you leave the house the HomePods turns off.
Great video. Learned a few new things. Something that is quite annoying to me is that I can't get the automation to use the standard "natural" SIRI voice instead of the "computer generated sounding" voice. How do I change that?
Thanks for watching Frederick! If you want to change Siri's voice, go to the 'Speak Text' document instruction and click 'Show More'. This will open a drop down menu where you can change Siri's voice. Unfortunately the natural Siri voice we're used to isn't available yet (I don't know why) but maybe it will be added in iOS15?

Good question - if you simply name your Siri Shortcut as 'Start my day' rather than 'Good Morning', it will have the desired effect!

Hi Clinton, thanks for watching. This tutorial uses a trick which gets your HomePod Siri to read text, but technically the process is done on your iPhone - not the HomePod itself. The 'reading of the text' is played through the HomePod Mini using Airplay. However, with the right knowhow, this means you can make the HomePod/Mini effectively read anything you want.
If you go into Shortcuts -> Automations and create a personal automation, by first setting the playback destination as 'your homepod' and then adding a text action into the sequence (enter whatever text you like) and finally add the 'speak text' Document command, you can get Siri to read any set text you would like. Similarly, you can get Siri to read webpages using RSS feeds etc.

Looks like iOS 16 has completely broken this now. The speaking is fragmented, missing words out, or not playing at all most times. Also, the temperature readings include decimal points (for instance it says the temperature is 16.57 degrees).
This is a real shame, as this Shortcut was excellent.
Any ideas how to fix this?

How to auto stop playing music in shortcut
This is a great question - I reckon there is a way to do this using the Time and Numbers functions within Siri Shortcuts, but it might get pretty complicated. If I can work out how to do it, I'll make a video on this for you Santosh!
@@HeyTechi One option I use is to make the last item in the shortcut to be: 'Start Timer for... x minutes' and ensure the timer setting on your iPhone is set to 'When timer ends... stop playing' - when the time has elapsed the music stops.
Or alternatively in an automation... set a Home scene to run that turns off all HomePod speakers based on the location of your iPhone. When you leave the house the HomePods turns off.

Great video. Learned a few new things. Something that is quite annoying to me is that I can't get the automation to use the standard "natural" SIRI voice instead of the "computer generated sounding" voice. How do I change that?

If you want to change Siri's voice, go to the 'Speak Text' document instruction and click 'Show More'. This will open a drop down menu where you can change Siri's voice. Unfortunately the natural Siri voice we're used to isn't available yet (I don't know why) but maybe it will be added in iOS15?
