Gardening pro tip: shop for flowers (especially annuals) after freezes and hail storms. Stores will mark them WAY down because no one wants unhealthy or tattered looking plants, but with a little TLC, these plants will bounce right back and be beautiful within a couple weeks.

My grandmother was born almost two full months premature and the family lore is that she survived because she was born in the heat of summer in South Alabama. The heat and humidity made the whole state a giant incubator. 😂

I'm not a huge apron person but I throw one on when I have a lot to cook or bake. We don't always realize some of the symbolization we set forth to our kids, but I can tell you, my daughter actually ordered the same apron I have when she moved out because it does mean something special to her. 😊
TH-cam is a great resource! When my husband is away working I can go watch a video and learn how to do all kinds of things. I’ve fixed our furnace at 1am when it went out, I’ve done plumbing work, fixed my washing machine. It’s really cool that people share the knowledge they have with the world.
Your comment about pretending like you don’t know how to do something reminded me of an Everybody Loves Raymond episode where if I remember correctly, it was discovered that the men were pretending to be bad at things like vacuuming so their wives wouldn’t ask them to help. 😂

It was the wedding invitation episode -- Robert told Amy he messed up (and they weren't supposed to go out! "It was a gift... for you!" he said.) And Debra accused Ray of messing up with folding laundry and changing diapers for all those years. One of my favorite episodes lol! 😂😂😂

My mom was 1 of 7 kids growing up in the Miami area in the 60s with no air conditioning. Their family had 1 fan in the hallway at night to try and move air a bit into the bedrooms. They'd go to bed with a cool, wet washcloth and did their best. I'm in Ohio and I'm still thankful for a/c!
I grew up using a Bosch mixer. Hands down, the best mixer I’ve ever used. I’ve always been so disappointed when using a kitchenaid.
Canning is both my favorite hobby and a great long term investment!! I also live where there are fruit and veg farms galore, so amazing deals everywhere to preserve!!
Amen on “Staying in your lane!” Same goes for home decor; it doesn’t have to be trendy and whatever look the influencers are pushing. They make a fortune telling and selling and it’s gotten so out of hand! My house is not trendy, but it’s home and it’s full of decor and furniture and artwork we actually like and most of it is secondhand. My best friend has an absolutely peaceful, serene, lovely and welcoming home and she has literally decorated and furnished it with all second hand items, most of which cost less than $10. She is patient, intentional and thoughtful and her home is gorgeous.
I'll add:
1. Plant a food forest. Look it up, if you have the space, do it.
2. Garden. We specifically do no till gardening on our homestead and I cannot recommend that enough. After the 3 year mark, you barely weed anything and it produces so well
And I'll take issue with one thing, homemade laundry detergent. It's not formulated to wash out of the machine properly and can build up. If you have a standard washer, the life span is only about 7 years now so you might never have problems before it dies. But when I talked to repairmen about which brand to buy of a washer, they all specifically said "never use homemade". They said they can always tell who used homemade soap in their machines as soon as they open them up. But if you have a higher end washer, they can void the warranty completely. We were also told by the repairmen that we are all using way too much detergent, you only need about a table spoon per load. We've done that for over 8 years now and our clothes are still clean!
Thank you for the advice about detergent! I've been using a ton because I worry about my clothes smelling sour. (Turns out that's more a problem with the machine than the detergent.) I'm doing laundry right now, so I'm going to cut back and see what happens.
I inherited a no-till garden of about 3 or 4 years. I'm on my 3rd year and I have not found it to be weed free. I still love the texture of the soil so I'm still doing it, but the weeds are SO bad very spring. I've literally been weeding for hours and hours for the last week and still I'm not done. Any tips for me?
@@rosannasauereisen2827 do you use a broad fork to loosen the soil? That encourages deep.roots and less weeds. Also mulch. Cannot emphasize the importance of it. If you have a no till garden and you have weeds, there's almost always something wrong with the composition of the soil-it's not healthy. Compost, kelp, and mulch between rows.
For conditioner stuck at yhe bottom of the bottle, simply open it up and add hot water and give it a shake. Then apply to your hair. That way I use every last drop.
I love my foodsaver. It is just me and my husband. The foodsavor allows me to buy bigger packages of meat and other things. I repackage them in servings for two and save money. I also use it to save leftovers.

I just turned 40 but had started getting grays in my 20s and decided to embrace them. I don’t regret it at all.
However I know some people like to color and that’s fine.
I finally embraced my grays simply because I'm tired of dying and damaging my hair. I've found that if I pluck the grays in my bangs, I still appear youthful, but with glimmers of silver throughout the length. It's kinda cool looking, actually 😎

I work at a food co-op & I love finding cute aprons to wear! They have saved my clothes so many times & I love how I can just throw them in the wash & leave my shift with stainless outfits❤
Store brands, home made laundry, bread, and kitchen aid mixer are all THE BEST!! Surpassed by a freezer big enough to store stuff in! When I put on an apron, I feel like Grandma, and Mom are both looking over my shoulder.
I found my bread machine at a local thrift store for $8.00! It has saved us so much on store bought bread. I let the machine make the dough, and then I bake it in my Pullman loaf pan. If anyone is considering a bread machine, check out your local thrift stores first.
I got mine for 10 bucks I believe. I've used it about 6 times so far but I can't seem to get the crust to come out soft. The inside is soft and taste great. So frustrating.
I love my perennials too 😊 my maintenance pruning is giving me beautiful bouquets every week. It took three years to get here where they are big enough for weekly bouquets but I love watching them come back every spring.

I live in Zone 6-7 ish (PA…it was zone 6, but I heard that they are saying we can grown zone 7 plants here now bc the heat index has risen some. For sun/part shade, I love hardy geraniums Bevans is my favorite, blooms spring all through summer, Espresso is also nice but like more shade, as well as Brookside and Roseanne. Also, Iris (German and Siberian) peonies, salvia (Purple Rain, May Night, Blue Hill, and Catarina are my favorites) Bee Balms all different ones: Coral Reef, Purple Rooster, Raspberry Wine, Petite Wonder, Marshall’s Delight, Rockin Raspberry…) clematis vine grows up trellis, echinacea of all colors are great but the magnus, pow-wow white, white swan, Ruby star, and Cheyenne spirit do best for me. Lambs Ears are pretty silver addition that lives sun and dry. Lavender, of course. They like to have a bit more sandy soil and don’t like wet roots in the winter. Liatris are beautiful. Penstemon for end of summer color. Also Black eyed Susan’s. Russian sage is a pretty blue/gray plant with delicate purple flowers in the late summer. I love yarrows for summer color. I have a yellow and a red that look amazing every summer with no work. They like sun. Veronica sunny border blue and red fox do good for me, also late summer flowers. Also daylilies are easy and beautiful. I have many varieties and colors of those. They are so pretty! For shade I love all kinds of hosta, so many colors and sizes! Also there is a wide assortment of he heuchera (coral bells) for shade/part shade, as well as astilbe, ligularia, ferns, burners, laminitis, lungwort for spring color. Just a few I have and love. 🌸💐🌺
@@tonyaw8155 I live in zones 3-4. Roses, peonies, and big leaf and incrediball hydrangeas is what I tend to stick to for this area. They all winter well and came back in the spring. Temperatures in the winter here can get down to -40 F without the wind so while I love a large variety of flowers, I’m limited to what will actually survive long term. Your variety of plants sound beautiful 🥰
Yes! The humidity! My husband's family are native Floridians, and they said it wasn't this hot even back in the 1970's. But they were also not living in a big city surrounded by concrete. 😅
Just a suggestion on boys haircuts... There are tons of videos on TH-cam that help learn how😊, but I've also "stretched out" haircuts by at least another "half", sometimes as much as skipping a whole cut. I do this b😢getting them maybe just a tad shorter, then about the time they need a cut, I trim around the bottom with clippers. You can get a decent clipper for $30-35. It may not be the most gorgeous, but if we don't have any special events, it works! 😊

Bosch is the best mixer imo. I own a Kitchen Aid because the Bosch isn't in my budget, but Bosch is definitely a lot heavier duty and can handle bigger batches.

I’ve taught my teen daughter to trim my hair and I quite coloring a year ago. Sometimes I use a color depositing conditioner to cover the gray temporarily. ❤❤❤
For people who can’t find someone who will learn to trade haircuts, try finding a local beauty school. The cut and style will likely take longer but should turn out well because, in my experience, a teacher must approve every step.
Becoming a minimalish family along with getting out of debt (therefore no interest) has made us very selective about what we do and buy. Top 2 things that have saved us thousands.
Get a Thunder Bird mixer! They are very sturdy and can be bought from restaurant supply stores. Highly recommend!

Bosch mixer is great! I was looking at getting a Kitchen Aid but decided on the Bosch and haven’t been disappointed. Bonus no above bowl motor thing that gets in the way when adding ingredients.

So agree with the KitchenAid mixer. I inherited mine from my mother-in-law when she passed away--32 years ago! She had had it for many years before that and it still works like a charm! I don't use it daily, but I know that my MIL used it numerous times on a daily basis!

Every point is on the mark!!! The best is # 10! A long time ago, I rolled my eyes at aprons but after my complaining about the grease stains and chemical stains on my regular clothes, my Auntie bought me an apron and taught me the history and reasoning behind them and that it will save me from stains and bleach spots when doing my daily chores but if someone drops by, you pull that apron off and your clothes look neat and clean. The history of aprons is to save the, usually, one dress women owned a few thousand years ago up to present day- and, even back in the day, women made them pretty and practical. Men also wore aprons depending on the “jobs”- blacksmithing, butcher, etc and for the same reason- to preserve their clothing from burns, blood and fat staining, paints, etc because they usually only had one set of clothing. # 15 money trackers- in the age of debit cards and no checkbooks to track spending, the apps are so important! I just saved us $275/year on subscriptions to apps we rarely to never use on our phones and tv because Rocket Money prompted me to review our subscriptions! RM also prompts us about our spending and to categorize our spending, which makes us more aware and, again, prompts us to review our categories and budget, which in turns slows down our spending. # 20- the best advice ever! NEVER COMPARE yourself to others or to influencers- yes, one can appreciate what others share or bring to the table, but to learn the ability to say “no” to yourself regarding the “should” or the “you must have’s” is difficult but so worth it, not just financially but emotionally and psychologically because how many times have we fallen into those traps and then beat ourselves up later for doing or buying something that wasn’t necessary or right for us or our families- stand strong against the “shoulds” or “must haves” (especially decor trends).
I still have my old faithful Kitchenaid and use it for certain things, especially the attachments, but I got the Bosch mixer about 6 months ago and man do I wish I had done it sooner. It handles dough SO much better than the Kitchenaid, even heavy bagel dough. I HIGHLY recommend it.
A moka pot is around $20 and makes coffee that is very similar to espresso if anyone want a cheap option. It's also very travel and camping friendly. I love ours.

Oh Miss Kim, I just want to hug you. 🤗 It was so great to hear from you. I COMPLETELY understand where your coming from. My daughter suffered a severe TBI at the age of 18 just 3 days before she was to start Jr college. The PTSD for me has been crippling at times. She has recovered physically but will always have rational thought issues. I'm no spring chicken either, lol with my own health issues. So there are days where just getting the dishes done is win.
Please take time for yourself, block out some time for reading & READ THAT BOOK! Luv ya girly 🌸

You are totally speaking my language with these tips. We moved to an old farmhouse March 2023 and there are so many decisions to make about clotheslines, plants, etc, that can really save us money down the road if we start now. (2 years married and one child). I’ll probably follow the steel wire advice for a clothes line, thank you!

I don’t know how many quarts the large Bosch mixer is, but I have to say, I have the Compact Bosch and it is a workhorse! Dense cookie dough is no problem. When I was shopping/comparing I read so many comments where people said it was stronger than their Kitchenaid. It’s also nowhere near as heavy to lug around the kitchen.

I try hard to use the full tube or bottle of product too! Lotions are especially a big culprit in leaving a good amount in the bottle once the straw can’t reach the product any longer. I have a small plastic container near my lotion bottle. So, I cut the bottom of the almost used up bottle of lotion and empty every last bit of it into that container. I can then snag a scoop out of that plastic jar for almost 2 full weeks! That’s a lotta lotion! 😍

I have researched a bunch about better mixers for bread and dough making, the Ankarsrum Mixer from Sweden seems to take the cake in all areas, they kind of look cute too! That's what I'm saving for anyways 😀
OK yeah a couple boy haircuts when you first start aren’t going to look perfect but I’m telling you it’s so easy once you master it! You just need a kid willing to be a guinea pig. Now that it’s summertime and the kids are out of school this is a perfect time to experiment on boys hair. Anyway, great tips. I’m going to check out that Pullman bread pan.
BUTTERMILK: As a southern woman, I do cook with buttermilk frequently, but they only sell those little half gallons and I feel like I'm always out. So, I purchased buttermilk powder from Azure. It was cheaper than buttermilk. And it cooks in the same! Now, if you're making a dressing or dip-- the powdered buttermilk is a little more watery than the half gallon from Kroger. So, I tend to not add as much water when I'm making ranch dressing and add a little more sour cream.
When I worked for Nestlé, they used Hobart mixers in the bench kitchens and they were great (sizing up from a regular batch, but not quite ready for manufacturing scale). Bosch and Kitchenaid commercial are also totally fine. However, I was not impressed at how quickly Nespresso machines broke down around the office and people weren't abusing them.

I've heard about opening the windows to allow natural air flow and hanging damp clothes over the window. I live in Illinois where it's always windy but I haven't tried this yet. I'm pretty used to the heat and just the air flow is enough for me

It's got a natural wave that I've been trying to bring out - I always though it was just frizzy, but I even have some spirals that form near my neck- I think all the highlights over the years have damaged it - but I've quite doing that some maybe someday I'll get curly curls! LOL!
I grew up in SE Texas about 50 miles from the Gulf. Hot. Sticky. We didn't have AC until I was a young teen. It's just like anything else you have never had. We were hot, but it was life. We all gathered around the fan in the evenings to watch TV~~after we got one!. And I must disagree with you about chickens. Unless you only feed them scraps and let them totally free range, feeding chickens, even with inexpensive feed, is NOT cheaper than buying eggs (unless the previous things are true and you use multiple dozen eggs a week.) I have kept chickens for years, and while I love it, and it is worthwhile, it is not less expensive.

Contact my family at Kroslak Bakery Equipment. You can get a rebuilt Hobart 20qt mixer with 15qt attachments. It’s so much cheaper and Hobart mixers never die. They are the best! You could by new but you can save money by buying used.

Make friends with someone that is a beautician and barter with eggs and bread, or one of your workshops.
Or just have her sell you the hair color and you do it yourself at home. It's not that hard.
