That Karjalanpiirakka is an insult to all Finnish people and Karjala and piirakka.

Those Karelian pies looked like someone read instructions how to make them, but did not actually have a clue what they were doing 😅 If I didn't know what they were supposed to be, I wouldn't have recognised them as karelian pies 😅
And the cabbage rolls looked very suspicious too.
Makes me wonder how was the taste on the other stuff, were they even close to what those are supposed to be.

My mother-in-law showed how to make actual Carelian Pies. it's a little tricky to make it right. Those ones in video were made by someone who could'nt "nip" the bread and they were left open around the rice filling.

These are all some old traditional foods. I have to say most of them were eaten "wrong" way. Kalakukko is mostly local food in city of Kuopio I mean you can find it elsewhere too but not that much. It should be eaten fresh and warm with butter and then it's good. Viili should be eaten with jam or something with it and those were absolutly worst looking karjalanpiirakka I have ever seen don't know where they found em.

turkish pepper is probably eaten in the same way as a lollipop, but you can also crush it with your teeth if your teeth can take it.

Merkkarit or merirosvoraha aka pirate coins were chewy and sticky, best way to get rid of a loose tooth.

I wouldn't get that basic salmiakki either. It's like grandpa salmiakki. The cabbage rolls are made and eaten in several countries. It's a tasty dish. Sharp knife makes eating them easier. They shouldn't look that green though. Karelian pies are eaten with toppings like bread. Egg-butter is a traditional topping. They are delicious when fresh from the oven. Mämmi you can grow an addiction to. You can get it also without added sugar. Also with mocha. The traditional dishes usually have humble beginnings: "1000 years ago KALAKUKKO bread".

Cabbage rolls shouldn't look like that and don't let me even start about those "Karelian pies"!?!? 😱
I wouldn't recognize either of those anything close to Finnish... 🤦🏻‍♂️

1:56 Those 'kaalikääryleet' aka cabbage rolls doesn't look at all like the real thing, AT ALL... But well, I can't either way eat those. 😂
I just can't, I get the urge to throw up even at the smell.. I blame on being force fed that at one point as a kid... 😅
3:03 ..... Those aren't Karelian pies... (Not just because they're aren't the original ones, but those don't even look the ricepies that is the substitute for the real Karelian pies...) 🙈
It is a savory pastry, it has rice filling and the crust is rye based... But those in the video are way too hard... You're supposed to be able to eat them by hand... 😅
And on top we often enjoy egg-butter (boiled egg smashed and mixed in with butter or spread, put in the fridge to cool and it's delicious) 🤌🏻
3:55 Okay... I admit, I have never ever eaten Kalakukko.... So I don't have room to complain... But I do think that doesn't quite look a Kalakukko what I have seen... 😂
5:17 Ah, great. 😂 Viili aka fermented milk product. Another food product I don't eat as I was forced to eat it as well. 🥲
How to describe it... It's little like bitter or maybe sour tasting yogurt..
6:17 Mämmi... _sigh_ As at my reaction you probably can already tell... I'm not a fan. 😂
