Damn. Full disclosure, I'm a Red Bulls fan and was pulling hard for New England for one reason - Yankee Stadium. Yes, NYCFC is our biggest rival, but that wasn't even going through my mind while watching the game. Now, if NYCFC beats Philly and RSL wins against Portland, then the MLS Cup will be between NYCFC and RSL at Yankee Stadium. For a league that's been trying to legitimize itself in the United States (and Canada) where the Big Four and college sports reign supreme, having the final at Yankee Stadium would look really bad for the league. I understand NYCFC's stadium situation is shitty and that New York real estate is no cakewalk, but they've been in the league for over half a decade, at some point NYCFC needs to get a stadium built. There was a comment that I read, however, that made me see a side that I initially didn't think of - NYCFC winning MLS Cup would be huge for soccer in New York, both for them and for the Red Bulls. New York is dominated by the Big Four, and anyone who supports either the Red Bulls or NYCFC knows that (MLS) soccer is largely irrelevant here. No one truly cares about whether New York is red or blue unless you actively follow either club and the league as a whole. If NYCFC goes on to win, it will put people in the New York Metro on notice. New York sports fans like winners, just look at the Yankees for example. NYCFC winning MLS Cup will surely turn heads and gain them a lot of new fans, and the Red Bulls will surely gain fans as well. I just hope that the Red Bulls win it before NYC does, but either team winning the Cup will be huge for MLS soccer in New York. Also, if NYCFC wins it and gets more fans as a result, then the outcry over their stadium situation will only grow louder. To think that the Yankees want more parking spots. @@edwardeduardo8561 they could have done what others teams have done in the past, set up scrimmages in the off time to try to remain sharp... they chose not too
Much like ballyhooed Sounders goalkeeper Stefan Frei, Turner couldn't manage even a single save while keepers who are considered "lesser" entities made the saves that led their teams to victory. The proof is in the performance. Who delivers when the game is on the line?
@@ryanjohnson6272 it is. I don't know what made you think it isn't, but football (⚽) is the most played and most watched sport in the world. It may not be the same in every country, but for a lot of countries in Europe, South and Central America, Africa and some parts of Asia it definitely is.
Matt Turner does not like to come out of the small 6-yard penalty box. I've watched him give up several goals this season where he could have simply come off his line and punched out the ball. Another example is tonight's game he sat on the line and it cost New England a goal. He is a great shot blocker though yet shot-blocking is not enough.
Alright. Someone tell me. WHAT THE HELL WAS BRUCE ARENA THINKING???? What I’m mad about is how he decided to change things up last second when it matters the most. Instead, he changes things up by putting in traustisan instead of boateng, which is what always happened and almost always resulted in a goal. WHY DID HE CHANGE IT? We would have won easily if he kept stuff consistent. Thank you.
1. Fill up Yankee Stadium. Game on ABC. 2. Revs old logo better than rebrand one. 3. MLS gonna be one of top leagues in the world. World Cup 2026 massive boost to the beautiful game.
It’s ridiculous that Revs had to take so much time off before their first playoff game. The bye week clearly hurts the top seeds as we saw the western conference top seed also lose their first round. MLS needs to address this because as of right now they’re not rewarding the first place teams they’re hurting them.
They had a very long layoff and I think that did it. The international break and the bye took them out of game shape. Still, a new regular season points record only a couple of years after being way down in the table has to be considered a great season.
It really was unfortunate timing... that and the MLS playoffs being designed pretty poorly. The supporters shield is just cursed... The revs had a 3 week bye coming into the playoffs, thats a hinderance to the team. We still pushed the eventual winners to penalties so we should be proud. I've just got a bad taste in my mouth because I knew coming into the game the Revolution would actually be at a disadvantage despite setting the points record and despite being at home because they hadn't played in so long and NYCFC just won a crazy game last week. It was obvious what was gonna happen. I told everyone i thought we'd lose. The MLS still has major issues people should be aware of
League needs to address the bye week reward becoming a liability as NYFC got an actual "bye" and Revs got a 3.5 week offseason. Some fault on MLS coach of the year Bruce Arena too. How about those subs, especially after being off so long?
And NYC beat Boston to the punch for a major pro sports title. Congrats NYCFC on winning your first ever MLS Cup title and the first top-tier major pro sports title for the New York City metro area since the New York Football Giants outlasting the New England Patriots in SB 46 back in 2011.
Some similarities with the MLS Cup: NYCFC gets tied in the final minutes. Penalties must decide the final outcome. Johnson saves both second PK goals. Alex Callens scores the final PK victory goals. NYCFC wins as the away team.
As an LAFC fan, I feel for the Revs fans. Kinda diminishes the importance of the reg season. Even super clubs like Man City can have an off game and lose to an inferior team. Wish the MLS emulated the leagues in Europe. The team with the most points at the end of the season should rightfully be crowned champions. Teams should be rewarded for their consistency over a long season. If we’re gonna have playoffs tacked on, how about a much shorter reg season like 16 games and fewer playoff spots. Might make it more interesting.
Let MLS be MLS I think. There's another side of drama in this. European leagues are all the same, with promotion and relegation system. Kind of predictable at times with huge money spending teams come out on top 4 each season. Apart from LEICESTER (EPL) years ago... I think MLS is better this way, be unique than the rest of the world in terms of tournament structure.
@@xammendoza667 I agree with pretty much everything you wrote (and I was also ecstatic when Leicester City won the title). I’ve been trying in recent years to support the MLS since it’s our domestic league. I do appreciate there’s more parity in this league so any team has a legit chance to win a title. My one gripe is I wish the reg season mattered more or maybe have less playoff spots. I think of college football where literally every game matters. I’m sure the MLS is doing things that’s feasible business wise and what appeals to the US market.
@@johnhwang944 the regular season matters in the event that you get Champion League spots depending on where you finish in the league on top of the MLS Cup Winner and the U.S. Open Cup winner entering in Champions League. The league will not expand the schedule and we keep getting more franchises, which means there's no way you will play every team at least once in any season.
And to think i was considering going to this game. Thak God i didn't what an embarrassment by my revs. This basically renders the entire season a failure. Not playing in a month probably didn't help.
Why didn't you go to support your team? They had a record regular season amount of points and could use all of the support from their fans. Being happy that you didn't go because they lost is just a weak excuse.
@@JL-zv3mm it's expensive and like 45 minutes away lol. It was a tough call but obviously the right one. It's one thing to lose in the playoffs but first game at home is just bad

okay, why does NYCFC have to give me a heart attack? Sands is out. Wait, we're winning 2-1, no it's 2-2 and Castellanos is out with a red AND we're going to penalty kicks against one of the the top goalies in MLS. Oh great. We're sure to lose now. What, we won!? I am shocked. Go NYCFC!!!
Couldn't have said it better! Too many emotions! What a fuckin game!!!
im from paris france and i can see a bright future for usa his football

What a win for the boys best day in our history vamos nycfc 💪
Couldn't be happier nyc won but how does an organization think giving a team more than 3 WEEKS OFF... If a good idea?!?!?!? For any competition in any sport!
Honestly, I wouldn't want 3 weeks off from work for this reason. Would make me rusty abd forget so much.
Amazing how MLS is growing.
Epic game, epic season!!
Gran Partido de Alexander Callens Felicitaciones !!
Can't use the Yankee Stadium excuse on this one! NYCFC ARE GOING TO PHILLY!
I love this. With all the so-called favorites out (especially those Sounders whom the media LOVES to root for), anything can happen now.
Too those who say soccer is boring…have you seen these playoff games!?!?
Totally right. This game was 🔥🤯
Only Americans think this. Everyone else around the world understands the excitement of this beautiful game
@@JamesCM86 You do know soccer isn't the most popular sport in other countries, right?
@@ryanjohnson6272 it is. I don't know what made you think it isn't, but football (⚽) is the most played and most watched sport in the world. It may not be the same in every country, but for a lot of countries in Europe, South and Central America, Africa and some parts of Asia it definitely is.
Both these teams gotta build stadium.. with GRASS
LETS GOOO NEW YORK!!!!
Vamooossss.....nycfc
Into the final🔥🔥🔥🔥
But we won't have the main man taty🥲
The way he was begging at 4:47😂
A new atmosphere in the final
Matt Turner does not like to come out of the small 6-yard penalty box. I've watched him give up several goals this season where he could have simply come off his line and punched out the ball. Another example is tonight's game he sat on the line and it cost New England a goal. He is a great shot blocker though yet shot-blocking is not enough.
This is why he will continue to play in the MLS
Ohmy ohmy how dont love this game??? Oh my beautifull match amazing stunning atmosphere one i love it this game
Thank you.
Hasn’t learned from the USMNT I guess lol
He talked all that S and got embarrassed.
What would be wrong with showing the WHOLE shootout?
Great Game!!! I love MLS!!! I love NYCFC!
so does that they either play at Yankee stadium or red bull stadium which stadium do you think to play the conference final
Neither, we travel to Pennsylvania. Union finished ahead of us, they they get the home game.
@@jldch26 ok than thank again
I’m just happy I don’t have to travel all the way to Boston on Sunday now 😅
1. Fill up Yankee Stadium. Game on ABC.
2. Revs old logo better than rebrand one.
3. MLS gonna be one of top leagues in the world. World Cup 2026 massive boost to the beautiful game.
Taty with the Gordie Howe hat trick
New York City FC will face Philadelphia Union in the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time in franchise history
Let's go New York 💪💪💪
I am Dasa I am from Indonesia i am one of MLS fans how can I have new england revolution jersey and how much
That one miss will haunt new ingland
It’s ridiculous that Revs had to take so much time off before their first playoff game. The bye week clearly hurts the top seeds as we saw the western conference top seed also lose their first round. MLS needs to address this because as of right now they’re not rewarding the first place teams they’re hurting them.
LFG NEW YORK!!!
was at the game. what a great game honestly. That buchanan goal almost made me lose my voice ngl. Still very disappointed though.
Yes NYCFC - MYTEAM👏🏽👍🏽🖐🏽🤛🏽👏🏽🥰👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Looks like its Philly vs New York in Chester PA
New england revolution gran temporada merecían ser campeones
The MLS still has major issues people should be aware of
Damn what a game
League needs to address the bye week reward becoming a liability as NYFC got an actual "bye" and Revs got a 3.5 week offseason. Some fault on MLS coach of the year Bruce Arena too. How about those subs, especially after being off so long?
the curse of the supporters shield winners continues
Buchanon🇨🇦 is a beast
I am a big fan of European soccer but MLS is on fire 🔥.

It was a match, but I feel a bit sorry for the man who always comes to comment and his profile picture is the shield of the new england
2-time MLS champions Houston Dynamo:🕺🏿🕺🏿Revs⚰🕺🏿🕺🏿🎶
Gustavo Bo is playing like he just came out of a rum bar.
Lol I think I heard him slurring words tonight at Gillette stadium 😆🤣
Welcome to the club, Revs.
They should have done the home/away aggregate system like the Champions League does
Valid point.
I honestly have no idea why they don't. It's more money for the league and teams they ads and TV deals and it makes the games so much more interesting
@@Ween1776 the league would get longer and there is no space on the schedule, I think ...
@@vastago.7759 just do it for semi finals and up then or something like that. Or lessen the schedule a game or 2.
You do know that they already had the aggregate system, and that 2019 was the first time they only had single elimination games.
*Bom jogo!! Vamos NYCFC!!*
And NYC beat Boston to the punch for a major pro sports title.
Congrats NYCFC on winning your first ever MLS Cup title and the first top-tier major pro sports title for the New York City metro area since the New York Football Giants outlasting the New England Patriots in SB 46 back in 2011.
Le doy un like a la afición de new england
What a game
Callens🔥
I did not expect that
They really need to adjust the playoff schedule how tf do you let a team have 23 days off before they play another game
Some similarities with the MLS Cup:
NYCFC gets tied in the final minutes.
Penalties must decide the final outcome.
Johnson saves both second PK goals.
Alex Callens scores the final PK victory goals.
NYCFC wins as the away team.
Very very sad about Revolution team, they deserves more!!!, good season for them!!!
Might make it more interesting.
they would need to combine the two conferences
It’s not a failure man. Y’all set an MLS record and won the shield. Be proud.
@@JL-zv3mm it's expensive and like 45 minutes away lol. It was a tough call but obviously the right one. It's one thing to lose in the playoffs but first game at home is just bad
What a game!!!!
A disgraceful coaching performance from Bruce Arena. He did not want to take any of his DP's out the game. He was quite satisfied with them walking on pitch. Gustavo Bo was walking the whole game. He was awful tonight. Carlos Gil didn't look like the MVP. It was just awful all the way around.
Didn't help we had a month off but I'm with you. Bruce was bad today after talking all kinds of S that's the worst part.
How did NYC pull this off? GG to them.
happy to see the Revs with a respectable attendance finnaly

Morning after and I'm just as pissed. Revs were absolutely shite, don't get me wrong, but this forced American playoff system with 1-leg doesn't work for football and MLS deserves to be called out for it.
MLS needs a really challenge. I hope see north american champion playing in Copa Libertadores !!
