Me, being the son of a father who avidly loved this song would often hear him hum the tunes all my childhood. Back in maybe 2013 my father played this video on our family computer and together with my mother I sat through. Now almost ten years later, I'm nineteen only in first year of med school and sitting on my bed at 3AM as I'm listening, mind goes back to those days; missing my parents at home.....i can only reminisce of those days now. I'll only thank my father(baba) for this. To all the folks, love and peace ✌️
I was also once a medical student, therefore certainly understand how you feel as you are staying up until 3:00 am, thinking of your parents and childhood......
It's 2022 and I'm 30 already. When I was 12 my father always played this song with his poor guitar. My father passed away when I was 18. I'm still playing this song.
So many years, so many songs, so many memories, so many heart breaks, nothing made me distant from this song. My heart still melts the same it did when I first heard this song. ❤. This song is just one more thing to be grateful about ❤
I was young, maybe 7 when I remember my parents playing this song. I hear it now, it takes me back to a simpler time as a child…tears streaming down my face with a smile
This is still one of the bests of The Brothers Four. RIP Mike Kirkland. Your music has touched so many souls and it will still be played for many years to come.
Junior high school, Belgrade, Serbia. Our English language teacher brought us lyrics. Some of us already new the melody... It was wonderful then and it still is great remembering those beautiful sounds.
yes once in a lifetime!!!.....so glad you and a others realized how incredible this moment in time was........lasted only a few years. I was lucky enough to be in high school at the time.......we were all going to change the world with love and understanding! it eventually fell apart for so many reasons, hard to say exactly why. many reasons. turning point down was everything in 1968... but this video captures the spirit of my generation for those glorious few years. must be at least 2000 people in the audiences singing softly together as one, hanging on every word of that famous heartfelt song........so beautiful to watch and it does make you cry because all that beauty and promise is so dead and buried now in the ugly world!!
Must have been a cool youth ! Obviously love and understanding were not enough to change the world but I like the ingenuousness of that generation, the true feels and progressive ideas... and the music ! Anyway, the world may be ugly but life is beautiful. Don't cry and roll up your sleeves, theres is still a lot of work to achieve. Peace old-timer !
This was a time when we were young and innocent, most of all we were hopeful. Our future before us, the dream of world peace. A time of harmony, in song, and human relationship. As we enjoy this music, I still have hope for a better future.
There was a time where my grandpa and I have a moment to chill, finding good songs from the past. Ever since he introduce me this song way back 2013. It instantly became a part of my playlist. He passed away last 2021 and I missed him so much T_T.
Ah... the peace of harmony... "We, verily, have made music as a ladder for your souls, a means whereby they may he lifted up unto the realm on high." ~ Baha'u'llah, Baha'i Faith
Wonderful performance. I love the girl in 1'24" and also the faces of the girls in 1'46". I would like to know if anyone was at that concert and what memories they have. Greetings to all Brothers Four lovers!
They were very good people who really felt for the for the defeated rebel soldiers who were just trying to get home. It is so cool because it had only to do with human suffering and not politics.
Im Nepali And We Fight to be capable of British Army..and im sure im the only Gurkha country to keep this song on my Heart since i was in nursery grade at British support school fund.
Tres inoubliabe, oui! Je ne peux pas ecriver le francais, mais ton comment etaitle seul commant, comme loin que je vois qui est enfrancais. Anyway, cette chanson est superb.
This video reminds me of a line in Lily Tomlin’s performance of Jane Wagner’s one woman play “The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe” wherein one of the characters Lily plays wonders aloud whether art is on the stage or in the audience.
Touches me to tears recalling the times fans, when we used to be such innocent dreamers, still sounds like the music of the Resistance, let's share some more prayers for peace, we survived the Stalin harsh comunist regime, we stay united to sing along and survive again the worst threats ever seen, some pricks seems worthless if not playing death games with our lives
*Five Hundred Miles* If you missed the train I'm on You will know that I am gone You can hear the whistle blow a hundred miles A hundred miles, a hundred miles A hundred miles, a hundred miles You can hear the whistle blow a hundred miles Lord, I'm one, Lord, I'm two Lord, I'm three, Lord, I'm four Lord, I'm five hundred miles away from home Away from home, away from home Away from home, away from home Lord, I'm five hundred miles away from home Not a shirt on my back Not a penny to my name Lord, I can't go back home this ole way This ole way, this ole way This ole way, this ole way Lord, I can't go back home this this ole way If you missed the train I'm on You will know that I am gone You can hear the whistle blow a hundred miles A hundred miles, a hundred miles A hundred miles, a hundred miles You can hear the whistle blow a hundred miles You can hear the whistle blow a hundred miles You can hear the whistle blow a hundred miles

Oh! Sad story. God bless you and your family and your nation.
We are two in this boat called 30. The time that has just passed is hard to believe. Feels like I am losing me. Sorry for your dad champ.
Ya, I’m 30 too. No, wait, I’m 70. Where did the last 40 years go? So sad for the kids now who face the modern world.

God bless the Brothers Four. I grew up with them.

Cool story Ljiljcik!
There are some classically beautiful songs that just draw people in, and this is the most moving rendition. Thanks, guys, for bringing it to us.
This is a very lovely rendition and the audience appreciate it.
Those audience seems to be enjoyed that moment so much. Great moment. Once in a life time.

4人ともに若いですね。懐かしい! 途中からみんなで歌って古きアメリカの本当にいい時代でしたね!
“How we squander our sorrows, gazing beyond them into the sad wastes of duration to see if maybe they have a limit.” - Rilke
I love how they start singing much softer when the audience joins them. So wise. Whispers are always more powerful than shouts.
When audiences start singing along without prompting, you know you’re doing something an awful lot right.
The crowd is so struck in this sing along. Very moving, thank you.
Some songs just bring people together regardless of who you are, where you come from. You just have to be human to share that connection.
Peacefulness lies deep within this song ❤❤
Wow does this bring back great memories! Loved these guys!👍
Wonderful performance of this beautiful song.

Moved my soul when I was 14... woke up in VIETNAM and armed radio played this song.... darm near lost it...
Whatever happened to this wonderful calming music?! I surely do miss it. So glad these performances are saved for all time.

They all are in one Soul. Lovely to watch. Thank you youtube
This is the best version of 500 miles I've ever heard. Even surpassing the versions by Peter Paul Mary and the Journeymen.
Fully agree.
My thought exactly
I heard this song when I was young.

Why do these songs make me cry i feel so much for this kind of tine
It is quite normal to feel that way: I think this particular rendition of this song is absolutely haunting.

The emotions in the audience says it all 😢
Best version of this song for sure , though Justin made it very well , the only sad thing about it is it's shortness, you wish if it was much longer 🌹

The Classic song of the world
この頃のアメリカ人は(1960年代) やはり白人社会が中心で、画面からも穏やかな雰囲気が伝わってきます。ただ一方では、ベトナム戦争が深く進行していたんですね。
Touches me to tears recalling the times fans, when we used to be such innocent dreamers, still sounds like the music of the Resistance, let's share some more prayers for peace, we survived the Stalin harsh comunist regime, we stay united to sing along and survive again the worst threats ever seen, some pricks seems worthless if not playing death games with our lives

*Five Hundred Miles*
If you missed the train I'm on
You will know that I am gone
You can hear the whistle blow a hundred miles
A hundred miles, a hundred miles
A hundred miles, a hundred miles
You can hear the whistle blow a hundred miles
Lord, I'm one, Lord, I'm two
Lord, I'm three, Lord, I'm four
Lord, I'm five hundred miles away from home
Away from home, away from home
Away from home, away from home
Lord, I'm five hundred miles away from home
Not a shirt on my back
Not a penny to my name
Lord, I can't go back home this ole way
This ole way, this ole way
This ole way, this ole way
Lord, I can't go back home this this ole way
If you missed the train I'm on
You will know that I am gone
You can hear the whistle blow a hundred miles
A hundred miles, a hundred miles
A hundred miles, a hundred miles
You can hear the whistle blow a hundred miles
You can hear the whistle blow a hundred miles
You can hear the whistle blow a hundred miles
a moment in time... sweet rapture...
