Welcome back to my channel. Thanks for joining me today. This is a quick process video showing you how I created a mixed media collage on a scrap of cardboard, using mainly old book and mail papers. I incorporated some rusty cheesecloth and some paper flowers made from old book pages, too.
I love to upcycle materials in my art - what do you upcycle into your art? Leave me a comment and let me know.
All supplies used are noted throughout the video and available from Amazon or your local art store.
CORRRECTION NOTE: I referenced Payne's Gray as the fluid acrylic color that I used - it was actually Prussian Blue (sorry.)
I have been an artist for over 40 years, primarily painting in acrylics. Over the last few years, I have been art journaling on a daily (almost) basis, drawing graphite portraits, creating intuitive art, and dabbling in watercolor.
I have tons of ideas to share and I hope by using TH-cam, I can gain like-minded subscribers who love some form of art and love to learn new ideas and techniques to try. I believe everyone can make great art.
If you haven’t already, please subscribe so you don’t miss more good ideas that I will be sharing regularly for mixed media, art journaling, canvas art, watercolor and acrylic painting, and more. And since I am really trying to grow this channel, I would appreciate it so much! I’ll send you a virtual hug.

I have just discovered your channel Sally. New Subscriber. I have never done mixed media and am certainly no artist. I fell in love with this technique. That little girl looks so much like my older sister when she was young. I don't have all the materials you used but will definitely try this with what I have. My mother took a few really sweet pictures of her six children that I would love to copy and make similar canvases as these. We are all in our very senior years, born in the late 40's. I especially like all the different layers you've added with all sorts of household items. Great fun to watch Sally. Thanks for sharing.

So happy to see you here as a new subscriber. And even happier that I’ve inspired you to try some mixed media art because it is so much fun and results get better and better the more you do. Definitely use what you have to start and add supplies as you go along. I’m an art supply addict, so just know you don’t have to have a lot of supplies to make great mixed media pieces. Technique is more important, so watch a lot of videos to learn the “hows” and go from there! Most importantly, just have fun with it. See you on The Tube!! ❤️

Hello Sally ... your work is very beautiful ... I had doubts about two products you used. Can you tell me what Matte Medium is? Is it a type of glue? And the gesso? Is it liquid? For what purpose? I never saw them here in Brazil. Maybe they have another name ... can you explain it better? Thanks for your attention.

Sorry, I didn’t see your message way back when you asked. Gesso is a creamy, acrylic ground that can be used to prime a substrate, or you can use it on top of artwork, like this one, to create texture.
Matte medium is also an acrylic product that has many uses, but it can be used as a glue. It is essentially a liquid acrylic paint without any pigment added to it.
Hope that’s helpful, and again, I apologize for not answering you sooner, just missed seeing your comment. ❤️

could you use a real old photo and not from a magazine?
