I remember the first time I heard disturbed like 20 years ago. It was prayer. I was a lil kid at the fair. I got on that spaceship ride that spins really fast and sticks you to the wall. The carnie operating the ride was blaring this. Before it started he said “I’m gonna make your heads exploooode!” Lmao
when i saw them this year at Music as a Weapon, i was so moved by this song that i started to cry. It reminded me of my grandfather who just recently passed away.
You can really tell that Dave's voice is treated in the studio when hearing these live clips. He sounded much better live when i saw him back in 2003 though.
Vocal surgery in 2005. You can hear the difference in his voice once the Ten Thousand Fists album came out. Slightly different tone and although his control and range of his singing improved he could never replicate his live singing to his albums again.

No doubt his control and range has improved though. He held longer notes better in the studio from 2005 onward. Some of the singing on Believe sounds a bit ropey nowadays.

actually he had it done because he had his nose broken like three times, and there was some like bone/cartiledge stuff that couldnt be dislodged in his nose, and he had to breathe through his mouth. So when he was on tour every night his mouth would be all dried out and he wouldnt be singing as well. so yeah, it definitely made his voice much better.
no it wasn't because of that. his voice sounds higher because in the cd he records it in a recording studio which traps the sound and makes his voice deeper. no he is live yelling and straining his voice when he sings so it's hard for him to keep a deep pitch.

I love Disturbed. Favorite band of all time. But live? David voice is much... higher. I guess it's cause of that surgery, but since then, it's never been the same. :( Still, fucking kickass band and fucking kickass song.
