For a couple of years now, the Compact has been my "almost" EDC . It hangs in the pocket on an inexpensive clip found on Amazon, by a spring clasp for necklaces, clipped to the knife "key ring." The rig is easily removed from the knife, as necessary. The knife is typically used several times a day. The scissors are probably the most used tool. Wouldn't be without it.
Only knife i carry these days. I prefer the can opener on the combo tool. Had to open 4 cans last week and had no problem. It also makes a great nail cleaner. I also use it for cutting tape on boxes. Its pointy enough to cut the tape without damaging whats inside.
This was the first time I'd ever seen anyone show that the combo tool is bent so it can be used as a can opener. Very interesting! My 111mm Hunter has the same tool on it, I'm gonna have to check and see if it has the same bend because I've never noticed. Great video, my friend!
Another favorite Slippy! They claim the tip of the Combo tool can be used as a Phillips head but I find that suspect. Still a great knife and one that I carry often. Thanks for sharing.
I have tested all of the tools on my Waiter (the compact compact) and the combo tool does work as a philips as long as it’s not heavy duty. Strangely, it’s not included in the list of tools on the info sheet.
Great review. The Compact is simplicity at its finest. I have two (2) one in white Plus scales and the other in titanium scales with a brass clip. Both and other SAK are part of my rotational carry.
For, as you say, normal EDC use it's the best SAK around, in my opinion. It's a little costly compared to other SAKs like the Huntsman but you get the little add ones. I love the pen because I never have one handy. The multitool is also fashioned for the tip to be usable as a small Philip's screwdriver.
Very cool 😎 Love the Compact SAK. SAKnifes are simply an amazing value. I have a drawer full of them, can’t beat ‘em. Great 👍 video and content, Thank You 🙏
If I had to pick just one, it would be the Compact. If you look at the current 91mm family the Compact is the third 2 layer sibling - alongside the Spartan & Tinker. All other 91s spring from the latter 2 while the Compact is sort of unique and childless. And all the more special for it.
I used to be a fan of it but it does not work well with PH screws. Victorinox should improve their LED lights to something more serious, take the inline PH screwdriver + LED layer from the Spartan Lite and add it into the middle of the Compact. Call it the Pedestrian or Compact Lite. The Urbanite maybe. THAT would be great urban EDC and a start of a third SAK line after the Tinker and the Spartan lines. The Compact as it is is just slim and (wait for it) compact but that's its main thing.
Happy Saturday Mr. Slipjoint. The 91mm Compact is as about an ideal 2 layer Urban users EDC SAK as you can get. My one & only dislike of the Compact is the totally boring Red scales. I have 4 Compacts & frequently carry them as part of my EDC rotation. On three I have replaced the (IMO) boring plain red scales with different coloured Translucent Plus scales. I have one with Rubi red, one with Sapphire blue and one with Emerald green scales & on the 4th Compact I have placed Navy blue/black camouflage scales, albeit this has no pen slot but I am covered for a pen in my EDC with the SilverTech Midnite Manager which is currently my default key ring SAK. In the past I carried for a few years each, either a Midnite Manager in translucent blue or translucent red or a Midnite Mini Champ in plain red or SilverTech scales ( prior to switching to a SilverTech Midnite Manager over a year ago I carried a SilverTech Midnite Mini-Champ for about 3 years) . As it happens I recently purchased on eBay as a Collectable, a New in Box with original paperwork, a presentation/ sales promotion version of the 91mm Golfer, the forerunner of today's 91mm Compact. It's 2 differences with today's Compact being that the parcel hook has no nail file & instead of the Combo tool it has a Divot tool. I would very much like to see Victorinox make an Alox version of the Compact with just a main blade, combo tool & scissors in 84mm size & in 93mm size, but they are unlikely to do so as they are busy discontinuing smaller SAK's (or reducing the scale colour options) and going, IMO, in the wrong direction of large and expensive Alox 136 mm Hunter single bladed one handed openers and now the large fixed bladed Venture outdoor/camping series. ATB Steve in Tel Aviv
My main EDC SAK since 1979 was a Swiss Champion in a leather belt holster, but increasing concern about knives and less need I have been carrying a pre-SD Classic. But finding the scissors a bit small I have just ordered a Compact.
Fantastic review! I just got a compact in the mail yesterday. & i missed the combo tool being bent slightly. I will say i kinda like the combo tool being thinner than the standard flat driver on other models. Oh, i tried opening a can with it last night. & to me, it seems to work better than the stadard can opener on othe victornox's
Sold mine on after a month, just didn't use it. Great tool set for edc but the corkscrew snagged on my pouch unlike the tinker. Thanks for your review, good stuff 🕊️
An awesome SAK model. The plus scales should be offered more often, they make this knife a step beyond. Definitely a contender for the best overall EDC friendly SAK model. Thanks, Slippy.
I've used the combo tool to open a can. It did a fine job. My preference is the lobster claw can opener on the Wenger knives but that's just me being picky.
Is there any other tool that could fit in the place of the hook? I know there’s hacks to make it usable but I wonder if something else would work better for EDC.
G’mornin brother. I hope to build my collection of these beauties. As of now I have three; one of which was my girlfriends fathers. It’s an oldie. You can’t possibly go wrong with Victorinox. I hope you can keep up the pace with these great videos. Have you seen the limited edition Buck 110? Green micarta, pocket clip and Magnacut steel. $200 but it’s pretty. Enjoy your day Matt!

Agreed, it should be about 40 dollars. Also, parcel hook is not great. I would swap it out for reamer with file on a side. While I am on the topic, they should swap out cork screw for Philips.
The compact is a great pocket knife with scissors, but that's all. It's sub-par as a multitool and i detest the Combo Tool. I'll take a Climber over it any day.
Best "value"? Value? It's probably the worst value of them all, so overpriced for what it is. I still think it's a great SAK (it really is, well done Victorinox), just not exactly high in the "value" stakes. FWIW I EDC a Champ & barely notice it in my trousers front pocket.
It's been listing for a tad under $40 new on eBay and Amazon lately - definitely a good value at that price, considering the various unique tools. A single pen cartridge can go for ~$10!

I had a spartan, but recently got the compact and I love it. The most decked out 2 layer there is, I think it’s pretty close to perfect.

The Compact was my first full size SAK and still one of my favorites. Love the combo tool. Great review, Matt!

My favourate Victorinox. I've got one with blue scales from my son for a fathers day gift. One of my most favourite knives. Cheers Slippy 👊

Right about 3mm
