Ms. Brahms has a hard moment of not laughing.. it's hilarious.. and Mr. Lucas I believe as well.🤣🤣 Good times.. that's my favorite episode.🤣 But in this episode, I think the OC was talking about the wig part. Humphreys gives a giggle.
I agree. During quite a few episodes they mention Christmas party and the hijinks that happened at them. Kinda makes me wish the show had shown part of one or the characters looking at pics from a Xmas party.
I had the chance to see Inman once, but sadly I was working a minimum wage job and had no gas money. He was doing a meet and greet in a mall some 50 miles from me in Detroit
How long did you expect they would have lived? I mean the youngest one Mike Berry who did not join the cast until later was born in 1942 he's still alive at 79. Would he still be playing the junior at this point? If any of the original cast was still alive most be close to one hundred years old, not to mention "young" Mr. Grace Harold Bennett he would be 121 years old.

I remember my mother telling me that here in America during WWII there was a shortage of woman's hose due to the nylon being needed for Parachutes. and how they had special leg makeup , and would use an eyeliner pencil to draw seams up the back. I wish she were still alive to have seen this, it would have brought back some memories for her.
A wonderful programme...I have watched these episodes over and over again. Each character has been so aptly portrayed by these actors. It is great to read about each of these actors on Wikipedia and also watch their interviews on TH-cam. It is funny that I, an Indian, love these British programmes with good dialogues and humour...and at the same time intensely dislike the British for their brutal rule, immeasurable loot and horrific killings in India for over Two Hundred Years.
New York! One of my Favorite shows! They used to run it every Friday night on PBS but stopped. I bought the series on dvd so I can watch it whenever I want! The show is a true joy!
Young Mr. Grace had his 80th Birthday 🎂 🥳 🎉 🎈 🎁 🎊 on the show, Mr. Rumbold announced Young Mr. Grace was now an Octogenarian, and Miss Brahms asked if he no longer ate meat. And Mr. Rumbold informed her Octogenarian was a person at 80 years of age.
Captain Peacock’s obvious responsibility to the comment towards Miss Brahms when he looks away from her for “Non cooperation at the Christmas Party” was very funny.
To put such a serious moment of Peacocks story in the middle of the laughs, use it to set up laughs, and make it work requires tremendous skill. It seems like no one today can pull it off. Love this show and others around it just funny and fun and too often brilliant.

Indeed, Tebbs was okay, but Mr Goldberg on the otherhand i totally didn't like. Same with Spooner, he was nowhere near as funny as Lucas was, in fact, i didn't find Spooner funny at all.
Reminds me of the episode of _Frasier_ where Martin's girlfriend has spent the night and then Daphne makes English breakfast the next morning (which is awkward for all, as Martin didn't plan on the woman staying the night), and in front of Martin's lady friend Frasier offers a sausage and says "Banger, Dad?"

I think an overarching theme of AYBS that people tend to miss is how horrible the management was at Grace Brothers. The company turned the simple issue of potential layoffs into a Survivor-style competition among its employees.
Mr Lucas was always getting dumped on, poor guy. Even after Miss Brahms voted him off he still defended her to Mr Grace. Loved him and Mr Humphries so much...
"And I must say that I deplore the sight of female figures without knickers....." "Oh ho HO!! You've changed your tune since the Christmas party!" Ladies and Gentlemen, Shade has just been thrown! XD

Although I was born and raised in the US, I love British comedy. It all started with Benny Hill and Kenny Everett. I also started watching Doctor Who when Tom Baker had the role in the 80s. (Our local public television station couldn't stay current.) I liked his British humor as well.
Watching these again, 25 years later, I am enjoying them more. The humor always seemed so broad. Now it seems high camp, with favorite comedians. Everyone is a gem. Richard was really beautiful. Sudgen, not that old, played eccentric to the hilt. Inman along with the ladies, was my favorite. They all were great. Everyone gone now.
