Skeletor looks so good. I hope Mattel is listening because I know a lot of people (including myself) will be absolutely gutted if he doesn't get an individual release.
I found someone selling a individual loose skeletor out of the package on ebay but the idiot wanted $150 for it when you can get the double pack for less 😆

I still remember buying my first He-Man figure forty years ago (it was He-Man himself, of course). This was at the toy store at Carolina Circle Mall, in Greensboro, NC. It was a cool mall that had an indoor ice shaking rink. Sadly, the mall is long gone….there’s now a Super Walmart there. But, I still have all my classic He-Man figures.
5:23 The die-cast ring is also a nod to the German audio plays. According to the back of the mailer box it‘s the Ring of Absolute Power. This ring was found by Skeletor in the 10th audio play episode „The Secret of the Mystic Mountains“ after an hint by the cosmic wizard Myrath in the Mystic Mountains.
Man, I really wish Mattel would translate those plays into English already! It's been around forty years since they were released, it's long past time for this!
Alfredo Alcala was my hands down, all-time, favorite artist for Masters Of The Universe artist...bar none! In my humble opinion, he brought the characters and stories to life for me! Thank you for your AMAZING review, Dan!
He is very good. My favourite is still Rudy Obrero, with Earl Norem as a close second, and then Alcala in third place.
I really hope we get a general release of this Skeletor. Masterverse is really hitting it out of the park.

What amazes me, is that Pixel Dan still has not spin that shin on barbarian skeletor to it's right position. Once you see, can't unsee nevermore.
Wow! I'm OCD about that. His video on that figure was pissing me off because the whole video he left it like that. I think Pixel Dan is secretly a masochist against OCD people. 🤣
The vintage and origins toys are still the best in my opinion
Since they have He-Man and Skeletor tooling for this body, I hope they not only do a retail Skeletor but a retail Faker in blue.
My dream Faker would be released as a deluxe with two heads and full armor and accessories in orange and magenta so we can recreate vintage Faker, boxart Faker, and Leo Faker. I know so many people who would buy three Fakers if it came with all of that.

While I personally am not a huge He-Man fan, I love Dan's enthusiasm for the franchise and characters and I love watching his reviews on the figures, almost more than I would on a series I am familiar/interested in, like TMNT and Dragon Ball.
Man, everything about this set is perfect to me. So glad I was able to pre-order 2 sets, because their is no way that I couldn't take these out for play. I know they are resealable, but these look amazing posed up. As a then 8 year old kid that had the vintage, and then on to Classics as an adult collector, it is amazing to have these guys again in another form that does them justice.

For the definitive Skeletor so far, for me personally, I like the one on the left, the Barbarian Skeletor with the alternate head.

They need to re-release this. It’s ridiculous that they don’t mass produce it. I’m sure it will sell like crazy.
I wish they would, but if they did I doubt they'd keep the flocking on He-Man. It cost too much to flock to make a feasible profit on a product these days. Not to mention i found a good chunk of the motu fandom aren't fans of flocking. Fwoosh in example.

I really hope they do a single card release of this Skeletor... the articulated jaw seems very fun. But if not, that's cool... I already have 7 Skeletor figures (8 if you count Keldor) over various lines. As nice as this is, I doubt it will dethrone my love of the New Eternia Barbarian Skeletor.
I totally agree with you. I did a count of my He-man figs; 11. That does not include Prince adam, faker or Anti-Eternia He-man variants.
I really need this Skelator. I only have the vintage battle armor with Faker's orange power sword.
I'm fine with He-man, have the classic with Battlecat.
I think I’d have to visualize the degrees more get a closeup but; 1-put shield over wrist one end; 2-then slide bracelet over the bare wrist 4- flip it so two openings are in between wrist and shield; then 5- join the hand clasped to the shield already and conjoining the two as the finale

Amazing how great the original still looks 35 - 40 years later.
My guess is the staff is mostly plastic because of weight so he could hold it above his head

These figures also look good with the classic battle cat and panther figures!
The shield also fits on the wide open hand without taking off the wrist bracer...The straps of the shield fits between the straps on the bracer.
Now this is what we should have got at retail - at least the Skeletor....
Why aren't Mattel using the Vintage/Origins He Man head sculpt for the 40th anniversary??? Everyone loves that
the He-man figure is great. the new buck is so well done. Personally. they should have used a similar buck for Savage he-man from revelations as he was monstrous. Skin tone, head sculpt, articulation, a.l of it is top-shelf work. Well effin done Mattel. cheers pixel Dan

Comparison with the classics figures made me miss MOTU classics!
As luck would have it, my single pack version of He-Man came today. He’s a sublime figure. The absolute perfect silhouette…why didn’t they start from there?
Dude, if you look close at Skeletor's face, he has fangs and gives him a faint Frank Langella look!
This is actually the 2nd Skeletor figure with an articulated jaw. The first one is actually the Mondo Skelly
i just got my 40th SDCC and it is awesome, may probably the best from the Masterverse line. Rewatching this video and if I have to be honest in my opinion, this set Classics counterpart still trump these Masterverse figures. Classics form factor and sculp is just close to perfect.
On the other note, the die cast pieces the set is quite cool. A definite 👍win for the Masterverse.

I feel He-Man’s face sculpt here is like a cross between the classic figure and the Filmation version.

My biggest gripe with this 2-pack is while I agree that the original Masterverse figures have a weird shaped chest, this He-Man and Skeletor from the mid-section up just looks way too undefined and puffy... like they're wearing flotation devices, and as odd as it is to say, no nipple detail makes it even worse looking.
You would think somebody at Mattel in the prototype stage would say, "hey this doesn't look quite right... let's fix it" but no, they just run with it.
It doesn’t matter though because it’s covered by the harness

I really want to get something with the 40th anniversary sticker and keep it in box/on card. Thinking it might be the in-store version of this He-Man.

Agreed, they are very lanky, and the upper bodies are smooth and rounded, lacking in muscle definition. The waists are also too thick, which throws off the proportions.
Love Dan’s Skeletor impression. The figures look awesome. Great review!
In Germany, back in the day the first few comics were double the size than what you got with the figures.

I just received mine today. This thing is phenomenal. I love the colors they used on the figures.
If they start using this torso or buck or mold or whatever for Mastererse then I'm gonna start buying Masterverse.

This double pack is quite good, but Skeletor and He-man should not have double joints and movements in their muscles, that does not make them so similar to the drawing, I did not like that at all, someday they will make better models, greetings 👏🏻🇦🇷
I think I found a way you could put the bracer and the shield if you put the arm through the first loop then put the bracer before you plug in the hand with the shield or put the bracer in between the loops of the shield, but aye that's what I think could work. Anyways great vid!

Well Dan. It was a good time for review. I just received my SDCC 40th Anniversary.
He-Man looks pretty cool, but doesn't hold a candle to the Classics version with that vintage head. Same with Skeletor.
Yeah, when he put them side by side, the only thing that's better is the height. The Classics version is still superior, even the face is more like the vintage.

I have the regular version of this He-Man pre-ordered, because I'm just not into flocking at all. If Skeletor gets a separate release, I'll grab it.

I did give permission to Mattel to use the design.
If they can do it for Trap Jaw why not?
Hopefully, Mattel will use this torso design for the Rebel Leader He-man Action Figure.
Just curious, how many of y’all are getting the solo release and a different Skeletor? And how many of y’all are gonna buy this on the after market?
It would be a shame for them to spend the money on tooling for this Skeletor to not release him at retail to go with the 40th Anniversary He-Man.

it would be dumb of Mattel if they dont release the Skeletor, practically throwing money down the drain. Everyone would want one to pair with the He-Man. My best guess is that like all previous exclusives they'll wait a while to keep the premium of the set intact until it's sold out, then they'll offer the retail version.
Regarding the singles 40th He-man head sculpt, it's a little bit of a gamble. I had to select from 10 figures on the shelves, and some really do look a little off. It could be how they glued on the hair to the rest of the face, or how they colored the eyes, but some look really bad. But I saw 3 that are actually decent, and 1 that looked really good that I had to buy another one, even if I already had 2 on-hand (i opened one). Try and sift through what's available on the pegs and you may find one gem with a great looking head.

They really missed a big opportunity by not making this set with the metal weapons available in stores. And not releasing this Skeletor is a complete fail on their part. Again, nothing will ever touch classics, but releasing this would have been a move in the right direction.
Even though I don’t really collect Masterverse, this was a pretty awesome set! Skeletor is a lot better in my opinion than He-Man. Something about He-Man just doesn’t sit well with me. I might be one of the few people in the world that just was never entirely crazy about the vintage-style face, even as a kid. But Skeletor is pretty awesome looking! Perhaps someday, I’ll be able to get this set off eBay or something!
I really like this skeletor. The hair on he man should have been like a dirty orange like the vintage. They're pretty cool. Dan l know Iam late for feedback. I wanted to express is Mattel should do a 40th anniversary for wun dar. Give him all the weapons he came with including the power sword. Also for the masterverse line as well. Good video sir.
He-Man's left bracer is just hard plastic, not die-cast.
Skeleton's staff would be way to heavy if it was completely die-cast.
He-mans head looks a bit off to me. I much prefer the Classics version with the updated vintage head. The proportions on Masterverse always seem a bit off to me. The longer sword is a massive improvement over Classics that I felt never got the sword quite right. Looking too small.
Is it just me or does Skeletor’s head look like an early version of Origins Skeletor from the Screeech set?
I love this 40th anniversary set especially the Skeletor. I also took the Alcala head from Classics and use it as an alternate head. It looks very good with this Skeletor figure.

This was a great set. Almost worth the several month wait for it to arrive. I can’t judge the figures, because they’re not coming out of the package. The die-cast weapons are good and heavy, and the reprints of the Mini-comics bring back so many memories.
I kind of wish I’d bought two sets now.

While I think the Classics He-Man beats this Masterverse one, I think the opposite is true for Skeletor. The head on Skelly looks fantastic and may push this into being my favourite Skeletor figure that's ever been made

Awesome video as always Dan. My set was delivered today. Been waiting months for it only to find the mine is missing the ring.... Hoping there is a way to get the ring replaced.
If you have the regular release He-man the shield fits over the plastic braser, no problem. Also I don't know if they changed the paint or its just how the camera captures the figure but the paint looks much better in hand, especially on the face.
