    I’m about to paint my boat too. I’ve got white primer, but going to switch to grey for the exact same reason you mentioned. By the way, I recently replaced my transom using your tutorial as my main guide and very happy with the outcome! Cheers mate 👍🏼

    NICE... a Land Rover Discovery and a Peugeot. Both my favs. I have a 96 D1 300tdi. Used to have a Peugeot 505. I'm also about to paint, but on aluminium.

    Thanks for the video mate.
    I have an old Mariner Pacer 780 sedan (26ft) 1976 model project boat.
    I would like to have a crack at painting her hull sides (dark blue)with brush/roller.
    Not looking for showroom but just a change of colour and to tidy her up.
    Appreciate your effort to give us all some clues and dare I say it, hope,
    that it can be done.
    Cheers mate.

    I did the first coat (same brand, same white), with foam rollers, around two months ago, on a day when Adelaide (noticed your plates) was unseasonably warm. Then it got cold and never quite got up to 23 again, at least not on a day when I didn't have something else on. Just preparing to do the second coat. Wish I saw this before I did the first coat. Anyway, better late than never.

    Great 👌 job on the boat. Came out quite nice. 👍

    Possibly the rounded edges on the foam roller that’s creating a softer edge. I’m actually thinking of rolling on army paint on my disco so watching lots of roller painting videos. Initially thought that paint with hardner is a no go for rolling but doesn’t seem to be the case. Will be going matte or satin so the texture from a roller shouldn’t be a deal breaker. Sweet D1. 🤘🏻

    Hi mate, good work. Where did you purchase the Pro Roller co high density foam rollers? Australia. Thanks

    Mate- THANKS!
    I'm preparing for the same thing on an old Haines, for above and below waterline.
    Below waterline had 3 layers of paint used a 36grit Alu disc then stripping disc.
    I've got limited shelter for her and was going to do this outside but will see..
    Guy at the shop -not norglass- suggested a sand between TOP COAT layers as it wouldn't stick otherwise- that's not suggested on the Datasheet.
    How much thinner on your second coat?
    Cheers this is so helpful

    • @cheapthrillsgarage
      @cheapthrillsgarage  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I didn't go any thinner on the second top coat. Just make sure you apply each successive coat within 24 hours and you won't need to sand it. I did 2 coats, doing it again I would do 3.

      Awesome thanks so much man

    • @bashaz8559
      @bashaz8559 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Is it a forgiving primer, do scratches disappear?
      Also would you think I even get away without sanding after the 2nd primer coat if I continue with topcoat within 24 hours? That would be too good to be true;-)

    • @cheapthrillsgarage
      @cheapthrillsgarage  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@bashaz8559 When the primer goes on it’s looks shit and and had heaps of orange peel. As soon as you sand the primer, all the scratches and irregularities disappear. I’d definitely sand the primer, it’ll make the top coat look good.

    gday mate did you actually tip this paint or just roll ? im just about to paint my boat and was going to roll and tip as ive seen some pretty good results looks like a pretty good job ok never going to be perfect but your not in a booth and your not using a gun so looks good to me and ive done three restos but they were sprayed .

  • @tony7830
    @tony7830 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    For the second top coat, no light sand , just the nor-clean. Is that right ? And top job.

    • @cheapthrillsgarage
      @cheapthrillsgarage  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      As long as you apply the additional coat in 24 hours no sand is required. I recommend 3 coats instead of 2, there was a few dark patches of primer you can see through in the light with 2 coats.

    I will take note about the foam roller producing a smoother finish. I wonder if tipping off with a foam brush would make a smoother finish even still.

    • @cheapthrillsgarage
      @cheapthrillsgarage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haven’t tried tipping, but I now use these rollers that don’t break down with the solvents in 2k and give a better finish again.

    Hey buddy
    Great vid how much paint did you use?

    • @cheapthrillsgarage
      @cheapthrillsgarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      2L of each from memory with a bit leftover which was 2 coats of primer and 2 coats of top coat. Doing it again I would done 3 of each. I once did a full boat, top and bottom hull with 4L spot on.

    Satisfactory result at an amateur level nice work. For professional results we spray and use top quality paints I personally can’t stand the look of rolled paint jobs on items that deserve better.

      Unless you are a professional with a booth, I'd bet you will end up with runs and heaps of dust blasted into the paint. I tried spraying my last boat, that is why I rolled this one.

    Microfibre works best...but you need to roll-off your final stroke.....all strokes finished in the same direction. 👍🇭🇲

    The foam roller disintegrates with the top coat. You need to change rollers as you go.
