Mounting Night Vision 101

- The absolute most bare bones, simple, basic guide I could come up with simply to just explain what the actual names are for the key components in mounting your night vision device to a helmet.
This is by no means an exhaustive guide so I've not covered lanyards or bungees, lif/amber filters, sacrificial windows, different NV types, counterweights or helmets etc, this is purely for folks who were in the same situation I used to be in where they have no idea what the difference is between a mount and a shroud etc.

Finally I understand the mounting components and how they fit together! maybe I'm slow ;D but your video was the first one (of many many) that actually explain it clearly and practically. Thank you
Nice one, good fortune to you with putting together your setup.
Very helpful, thank you for this it can be pretty daunting stepping into the NV game.
That was my experience too.
I appreciate the manner in that you took to cover what features and quality to use/look for--when setting up the "Train," of a good night vision system.
Cheer's!!

happy to help, ta
Agreed don’t spend $3000 on an NVG and then $100 MOUNT.
After watching a lot of videos, I can say this is the best. Actually going linearly through each piece and how they interact certainly is basic, but it’s so basic that most videos overlook it entirely. As a novice to NVGs, your video finally allowed me to understand what’s going on and make sure I ordered the correct parts.
Do you have any tips for tethering the PVS-14 to the helmet for security in the event the device becomes dislodged by accident, or is fumbled when taking it off?
It took me a fair bit of time and effort to learn this stuff for myself so it seemed like a gap in the market, as it were.
Good question, I have the wilcox retracting lanyard, but honestly you can just use any bit of string that's long enough when the device is deployed horizontal.
Really important question, what size butler creek (lense cover) is that?
This was a great guide even though I'm using no function dummy goggles for a cosplay that I'm doing
Gear is gear, glad this was useful.
Nicely done! Simple, Straight to the point, and easy to follow, Spot Own! Thanks
Happy to hear it and thanks for watching
Using this to help with a cosplay.
Thank you, sir.
Cool rig!
You're in 2018 with that kit and I'm sat back in the year 2000 with a set of PVS-7's, Norotos Rhino Mount and uhhhh, a G&P USA Night Vision CNC Shroud (Norotos clone).
Thats all attached to a Fairy-soft IBH helmet. Do I know how to live, or what? lol.
I've never seen through 7s, but hey a lot of guys got a lot done with IBHs, Norotos and the 7s. In reality sports type bump helmets are gonna be way more comfortable anyway and it's not like we need ballistic protection for the game. If it's a decent tube in the NVD then that's all you need. The difference between having nothing at all and any device can be significant then it's the usual case of diminishing returns. That's why I didn't want to spend on dual tubes seeing as you don't actually gain any real FOV but the single tube has a big plus in terms of going from NV to white light usage/battles.
This is true.
I'd imagine your setup is quite lightweight too. It would be great to link up with you on an Op one day/night.
Looking forward to your future vids. Keep it up, man.
BadaBingPictures afraid I only play games, not 'ops' xD lol, nah I'd imagine we're not too far away, I don't play often and I'm thinking I'll move more in to firearms perhaps, but yeah good shout for sure have to T that up.
The bungee cords that are attached to the helmet are they there to stay in place and keep the shroud and whole nvd device more stable or are you supposed to hook it into your night vision of choice for retention.
I only figured this our later myself, they are meant to attach to the night vision for retention and stability.
@@CKinnerley thank you
Very informative, thanks. I'm in the recon stage of purchasing night vision. I think I'm going to save up for gen 3
You're making the right decision and it'll really pay off long term.
Anyone know how to make the on/off switch work on the Wilcox J arm with G24 mount?
Can the 1 J arm be usable for setting it up on both the left and right side ?
only with wilcox
Hello,
I did mount my nvg Mount about 1 cm off to the side. I glued it so there is no way to remove it from the Kevlar shell.
Is there a mount to compensate my fault?
Thank you.
How / where to screw the shroud on Kevlar?
whyd you jump cut mounting the wilcox?
Does the the 4 tube nvgs need a j arm mount, because I got a pair of my dads old GPNVG18 and I don't know if It needs a j arm
🤣
Hey, I really appreciate your style of videos. They are very helpful. I have two questions, is it possible to mount cheaper gen 1 stuff to a Wilcox?
Very helpful, thanks :)
Thanks for watching 👍
I know that in like 5 years late but would it be possible to link what you bought
Helmet
Mount j arm
Night vision
Shown here is the ops-core carbon bump, wilcox L4G24 + j-arm, PVS-14.
Thanks
Thansk man new to it and its over welming due to the money involved
Excellent many thanks
?: are the screws on those J-arms all the same standard size? [whatever that is.] Also: do you ever use one of those 'balancing weights' that mount on the back of the helmet?
proper mil spec kit will be standardised, but there's a lot of commercial junk out there. i own an ops-core counterweight pouch, it's pretty essential.
@@CKinnerley thanks, I'm hoping my sore neck won't break lol
me doing silly little cosplays fighting for my life trying to put the kit together
I found myself only being able to shell out enough for the much larger Wolf-14 monocular and I was wondering if there were any mount setups you could recommend for that.
Never heard of that one, just gotta find out what mounting thread/fitting it has and the compatibility therein.
@@CKinnerley Thanks for the reply. The intel that I've gathered so far has been that anything other than the proprietary J-arm simply will not fit around the housing itself, due to its width. I really would like to be able to have that capability, and while its almost a certainty I will have to go with their specific tech I would like to see if there were any alternatives.
Where did you get your L4 G24 & J-arm from?
Just 2nd hand sales
If you live in the US TNVC has it
i never knew it was 2 strings! i thought it clipped in
which part?
Two questions: what helmet and cover is this? What resolution and SNR is your tube?
The helmet is a TMC fast helmet (multicam version) and the helmet cover is the TMC mesh multicam cover I believe.
Helmet: www.weapon762.com/helmet/1793-tmc-fast-mt-super-high-cut-helmet.html#/4-color-multicam
The helmet cover could be either from EMERSONGEAR or TMC, I'm not entirely sure.
Helmet is Ops Core Carbon, Cover is a First Spear Hybrid.
@@crispymeister8076 Pretty sure someone that has enough money to grab a PVS-14 and Wilcox mount set won't resort to mounting them on a cheap airsoft chinese replica lol. The shroud has Ops core logo, and the arc rail appears solid without molding line, it's safe to say his lid is genuine
Thank you for the helpful video good sir
Glad it helped
You sound like Tyson fury
What night vision do you use
I have a pvs-14
Is it possible to mount night vision googles to a M70 helmet?
anything's possible
The Full 9 Thanks for the inspiration mate
What brand lens cover is that on your pvs14?
just a butler creek scope cap
Where did you get the j arm with the dovetail
It's a wilcox, private purchase.
How do I put the mount on? xD
Usually there's a button sticking out the side near the base
AND of course he doesn't show the one thing i needed to see, how does the mount attach to the shroud?? is it a compression device? is it a click into fit? what? WHY wouldn't you show that???? UGH..He literally showed Every single step except that one...WHY???
Several friends own L4 G24s, so I can answer this for you.
It slides in at the top; clicks in at the bottom. The L4 G24 has the option of setting it to come off your helmet in a force-to-overcome fashion if you bump it hard enough in order to save your neck. You can also disable the force-to-overcome feature.
You can think of it kinda like the battery cover of a cheap made-in-china toy: it slots/slides in on one end and clicks on the other.
@@fi4re ok thanks very much i appreciate that! Now i can actually assemble it when it arrives! lol
When you're sending a notification to the phone of the person in the video it's pretty weird to refer to them in the 3rd person.
Anyone with an IQ above 50 can figure out how to click in the mount once they have it in their hands, you won't require instructions.
I just realized, man's a brit
did you change your channel name?
Yeah long while back
