We're a DIY family building our "forever homestead" from 15 acres of raw undeveloped land in Tennessee. All of our content is family friendly and safe for everyone to enjoy.
In today's video we work to find the filler material for our tall raised garden beds. We use our Massey Ferguson 1825 E tractor to gather debris from our woods to build a hugelkultur raised bed garden system for our Birdies 8-in-1 Raised Garden Beds.

Don't worry about taking the fallen trees out of your forest. It really helps the trees that are standing to breathe. The insects still have enough dirt and leaves in there to be cozy.
Nice raised beds. And watch out for those hands and fingers!

My husband and I had tons of excavation work done on our property and had the excess dirt pushed in a giant pile. We now steal dirt from that pile for our garden beds. We add manure and stuff to it to keep it good. My land was given to me from my Papaw who farmed all this land and his parents before him. So, we’ve been growing gardens in this soil a good while.
My husband nearly cut his finger off 2 weeks ago. He had surgery last Friday to fix it. Had the tendon cut in half, the nerves completely severed, and some minor bone damage. Now, the surgeon said he can’t use his hand for months while it heals.
I’m glad you didn’t hurt yourself bad on the chainsaw.

Hi Sam and Angela! You should also go to you local hardware store and buy some copper wire. Wrap the copper wire around any stakes you put in the soil, this will increase the amount in whatever your growing! Old time farmers used to put copper wiring in their fields and got huge crops!! More and more people are going back to this method and reaping great rewards! 😉

As always an enjoyable and informative video.
Angela is correct. Elijah is a miniature version of Sam.
Any father should be proud to here that.
    I guess😃
Elijah seems to be a hard worker and enjoys working with dad and learning things.
Yep, looks like a lot of work creating a garden bed.
I'm the type that throws some potting soil in a pot pit in some seeds or seedings and hope something happens. I'm happy if I get something to grow 10% of the time.😊
So I've usually end up getting home grown stuff from a local farmer.
    Hoping you have great success.
    Love you guys

It isn't a peavey, Sam, its a cant hook. In this case, its a footed cant hook. A peavey has a little pointed shaft down at the end. I suppose it is for sticking into something, but I never found a use for it. The cant hook you have is what I would prefer. In some circumstances you may find it good to remove the foot. The foot is very good for what you are doing. I have never been a logger, really, but I have cut several mountains of firewood.
