Like I said when you did your initial video on Missouri's state laws, I'm watching every one of these. I'm a big fan of your quirky-yet-intelligent style of writing. These videos scratch that odd itch in my brain for entertaining education that I so rarely find. Part of the "fun" of having Autism & ADHD.
That's what my friend does with me. Well, not necessarily quicker, but she says "you'll know and probably have a little rant about it that's pretty funny"
Hey, former Army combat engineer here: explosives can work differently under varying conditions, including both extreme cold and extreme heat. There's also a ton of tools and methods that explosives and demolitions handlers use that might not work the same under those conditions. Fuse detonators, crimping tools, even tape can all require some consideration in extreme temperatures that you might not have thought of beforehand. But it's primarily for dealing with explosives. Remember, an explosion is a chemical reaction, and chemical reactions can be affected by temperature.
As an Alaskan, I’m surprised you didn’t include the law about dropping moose out of airplanes, that’s usually the one that people point out when discussing weird alaska laws. (Also, as said in the video, the Fish and Game guidelines are incredibly long, but they’re important and there for a reason. A lot of people just skim the parts that pertain to the type of hunting they want to do which is normally fine but it can sometimes lead to people getting caught breaking the law because they didn’t read close enough.)
@@Game_Hero I spent 2 years in Alaska through the Army and they warned us how extensive the hunting laws are. Mainly its meant to protect the native communities that rely on hunting and fishing as a way of life and food source and so the state of Alaska has to make tons of laws to make sure the animal populations stay healthy enough to not become endangered as that is someones actual food source and not hunted for sport
2:45 the lower 48 doesn't understand this one lol. its not quirky, its deadly serious. i know someone who bought a wolf-dog hybrid that ended up just being a wolf pup. its all fun and cuddles until they reach a certain age and a switch is flipped and they become more of the predators they naturally are. my friend got lucky and got out of it with only a single nasty bite on his arm that punctured an artery. it was spraying blood all over the walls like a damn horror film before he got a bandage on it. people STILL buy wolf pups and "hybrids" to this day, and most of the "hybrids" are just wolf pups. actually forcing a dog to breed with a wolf is a huge pain in the ass and already illegal so people selling them are just as likely to rip you off with a full wolf pup. what are you going to do, tell the police that the illegal pet you bought is the wrong type of illegal pet?
I live in a state where they're legal and worked at a wolf dog rescue for a while. The vast majority of people simply can't take care of them properly. That hormonal shift doesn't just turn a cute puppy into a wolf, it happens again later in life and it drastically changes their personalities. So a relatively relaxed dog can turn into a dog that is too afraid to go on walks and there's really nothing you can do about it. Not to mention that every breeding season they go through a mood shift that makes them even more on edge than they usually are. A well bred wolfdog might just be nervous by consequence of being part wolf but the vast majority of breeders out there just want money and they'll give you aggressive pups, pups with a drastically higher wolf content than you expected, or just give you a dog that kinda looks like a wolf. IMO for a certain type of person a hybrid can make a good lifestyle, but as a pet they're awful.
Lower Fire Lake was a favorite weekend winter place for me when I lived in Alaska. I used to hang glide and it was located below some high hills and we used the lake as a landing spot. I think the reason for not allowing vehicles on the frozen lake is due to it commonly being used as an ski aircraft runway.
I'm slightly disappointed that when the seal law came up and how you can't use it without permission. I wish a picture of a seal came up instead of blurred picture of the seal in question.
This is the state with the least ridiculous laws so far. Most of these laws were actually pretty logical. I could _(for once)_ see the reasoning behind most of them. That's not something that happens very often in this series. Anyways, I just wanna tell you how much I appreciate these videos. I *love* learning about weird, niche stuff and you're a fantastic teacher :)
Not surprised that you need a certain ammount of training about how explosives are difforent in cold weather to do explosives in Alaska. Why is this surprising? Seems like good sense to know what you're doing with anything life-threatening, when extreme weather has significant impact on how things may behave.
Same with the architects and engineers. If there's different needs for tornado alley, hurricanes on the east coast, and earthquake prone areas, of course extreme cold weather isn't much different
are these really "wacky" laws to the rest of the US? lol they all seem normal to me. Alaska is pretty well known for having rational laws because if you goof around there it can go badly. its also one of the youngest states so it doesn't have goofy laws like "no ice cream on sunday" that most of the new england states have because Sir Reginald Fopwallow back in 1820 tripped on the sidewalk and spilled his icecream and passed a law in a rage
9:54 Fun fact! When a friend of mine was studying Psychology at the University of Alaska, Anchorage one of the assignments for their Behavioral Psychology course was to raise and train two of the lab's rats to do a specific task. They got to keep the rats after but only if they could prove they didn't live in Anchorage or someone who didn't live in Anchorage would adopt them. My friend lived in Palmer, which is a town 40 minutes north of Anchorage and which doesn't have a rat ban so it worked out. He still has them!
Really loving this series. Can’t wait for you to get to Louisiana. We have a civil law code derived from Spanish and French influences that differs from the rest of states derived from English common law. And our general disfunctioness 🤪
i will say, these r a lot more funny when theyre showing up occasionally among the rest of ur content… it may make more sense to release 2 back to back if they have a lot related to one another, but short of that, id recommend sticking to ur more story focused content most of the time. and hey, if u find multiple wacky stories while perusing a states laws, u could even have a story-> laws-> story sequence of videos that feels entirely natural!
So, are you just going to make one of these "strange laws" videos for every state? Because, as a Californian, let me tell ya... you'll have a field day with my state.
As a guy that lives in Alaska, these seem pretty normal to me, except the wolf and wolf hybrid laws because I've had a couple and they're the best dogs
I’m looking forward to see if there are any strange bear laws here. By the time we get around to Wyoming, it would be fun to try and tally how many there are nationwide.

The offended squawk I made as an Alaskan who hasn't lived in the state in years when you described Anchorage as 'Rustic'. Oi buddy, moose might eat my flower boxes but our local Opera beats half the ones in the lower 48 at half the price. (Also I second the comment about explosives definitely needing cold weather courses, nitroglycerin at -20F is a totally different beast than room temp and you Want someone to know the difference when they're working on emergency demolitions)
the vending machine seems stupid at first but in further inspection seems to be okay. Its mostly about tabbaco and other things illegal to minors so it makes sense that there should be some supervision
Another fun one is that our waters are treated as international waters, meaning you don't need to license or permit to operate or own vessels up to 200 tons....
8:27 I'm no lawyer but you're most likely safe to show the Anchorage seal outside of Alaska (jurisdiction and such) .. but they could put a bench warrant out for you in the state and scoop you up if you ever visited, perhaps.. Maybe... I doubt they would waste the time to actually have you extradited is what I'm saying. But 🤷 Alaska be Alaska-ing.
So did you decide to go ahead and blur the seal of the city of Anchorage rather than to request permission to use it intentionally as a joke? It seems to me that it would've been easy enough to have contacted the city and placed the request for use for an educational video on the state's laws would've been simple enough and would likely have produced a strongly-positive result.
Did you miss Alabama? th-cam.com/video/sduAXyr0LyY/w-d-xo.html

And alaska uses it for mining and avalanche control
That makes sense, what is weird to me is the law only specifies that the training needs to be 36 hours long and not what needs to be covered in it.
Bro just decided to become a living encyclopedia for every law known to man
Only the weird ones

I'm 10 minutes in and I gotta say, this all seems very normal to me and not at all wild or wacky
Same....thisnis not entertaining
I have a feeling the reason Alaska has so many odd laws is because the people writing them down probably had nothing better to do during the winter.
-30F is basically nothing in Fairbanks. I lived in Tok which is east of Fairbanks and saw -68F
The fact that Alaska let kids bring in their pet rats as to not separate them is frankly so fucking adorable. The law needs to be updated for sure
