Wow, it was a long and frustrating diagnosis, but I was excited when you pinpointed the problem. What fun. Thank you for the experience. We learn all our lives.👍
Had exactly the same sort of fault on the same van a couple of months ago. Crank sensor goes faulty and a rough mechanic had chiselled the old one out because it was siezed in. He'd damaged the chocolate reluctor. Half the time it wouldn't start.
Another top notch diagnosis there, Luis! 👍⭐Made more difficult by all the extra stuff that was on it, and-yet-again-it had already been messed about with, which makes a difficult job even worse, but DEFINITELY pass this one back to the workshop🔧 and let them fix it-YOU did all the hard work!
Hy Luise, great video like always, thanks for sharing it with us. it s great that we can learn so much from you,i wanna thanks you a lot. In Romania there is a saing "we learn all life, and in the end we die stupid",thanks a lot! have a great Sunday.
😊 My grandfather used to say... "We spend our entire life learning, and we die knowing nothing..." Very similar...😊 Thank you for watching and for your comment! 👍👍👍
BRILLIANT - I had my money on the air flow meter at the start of the video - they will not run with a bad air flow meter or split pipe Suprised there was no code with the upstrean turbo pressure sendor hanging loose !! But BRILLIANT detective work - what the hell has caused the problem with the pickup ring - a rough monkey or something exploding / debris in the bell housing - would be ineresting to know if it has ever had a clutch or a G/box rebuild - ( YES they STILL have the G/box problem they had from day one)
i thought signal to injectors cutting out. would this have been picked up if you scoped the injector signal. when you first showed crank cam signal . did'nt like the look of crank signal. but engine was running
Soooo.... The software in the ecu isn't good enough to pick up the bad readings off the pick up ring. Imagine how much help it would have been if a constant crank or cam sensor code had been thrown up for you Luis. Great find on nasty fault fella 👍👌
Or had the code been deleted ... ECUs are not smart they only set a code when a parameter is breached so if the software engineer never thought a the reluctor would be damage its not looked for
Firstly, may I say good diagnosis I come across similar problems daily where somebody deleted a fault code or removed a function. eg DPF delete adblue delete. I have software that interrogates the ECU and tells me what has been deleted. I always start with software update Secondly, the air mass/density sensor (not airflow) is purely there to do a calculation of the efficiency of the EGR system as is a lambda sensor on a diesel .if you fully open a good EGR you would see a 50% drop in air entering the engine its good test for restricted EGR ( a lot of OEM tools do this exact test ) If you disconnected air mass sensor plug the car would run with the inlet pipe disconnected. Thirdly, I concur with another comment. If you'd used a Pico even the the 2000 series , you would have seen that when you first scoped it, you could also play with a math channel for misfire detection yes all for £100. Treat yourself to a scope that works on a laptop with a big screen
Hi, nice video but a tough one. I didn't watch all 54 minutes intently but I noticed mass flow was 8 g/s at the start of the video at 850rpm but towards the end its at 11 g/s. What is a typical mass flow value for these vans at idle? Thanks
Always watch this in x1.5 speed Also engine stalling 101 is always scope the crankshaft and camshafts sensors and see what is happening after confirming the fuel rail pressure is ok.
Good find Lois, it can be easy over look bits when your head is going at 100mph trying to figure out what’s going on. But you didn’t give up so well done mate 💪💪
Haha few weeks ago I had similar problem van been to several garages and so many difrent diagnoses But in my case crank sensor has been damaged, and when I ask costumer what been done to van in past he said full clutch
Gave up watching after seeing that crankshaft spaghetti waveform at 26 mins and then the comparitive which also looked fairly awful .Went to the end for the confirmation. Think it would've been better cut to 15 mins covering the salient part and the other deletes that would throw you off. First time I have been disappointed but hey ho. Were you nottempted to twist those tangs back into a better shape ?
Any video van be cut to less than 5 minutes... Problem, and fix... leaving everything else out... the real world is way different...😊 As I said, I would not be taking the gearbox out... 👍👍👍
Essa fez doer a cabeça. Mas até faz parte da aprendizagem. Como disseste que pensaste que és experiente e até chega às lá facilmente aparece esta. Mais uma ...😅
Luis it is again not a bad engine construction case rather some "expert's" hand on it.... At the end the customer should pay your bills instead.... :( I hope u were not putting back the modded ECU Firmware
I dont have finish the vídeo but i will say the diference with maf off and on, is because you have a bad egr so it pulls more clean air, when you unplug the maf is probably gives values of air mass with a egr working. But i will finish the vídeo first 😅
You are stubborn , smart but stubborn 😁😁😁😁😁 the best of us go round about even in the trade , some good deals on at the mo for scan tools and scopes , not going to link
Love my Sunday morning in bed watching someone work outside 😂great diagnosis to me it looked like a few people had messed with it and it makes it harder to find the problem maybe you should have spotted it sooner but no one’s perfect and next time you see this happen you’ll go straight to the problem 🥸
Wow, it was a long and frustrating diagnosis, but I was excited when you pinpointed the problem. What fun. Thank you for the experience. We learn all our lives.👍
😊
We do learn indeed...
👍👍👍
Luis, this is a grat example why a picoscope would have pin pointed the issue within 10mins..
Well, my scope did it as well... I just didn't looked properly, and missed it... it was there for me to see it from the first time I scoped it...
😊
@@LMAutoRepairs But the video would have been very short if you had !! l;-))))

I'm surprised it didn't throw up a correlation code if it was mistaking those bent tabs for a gap.

Cam to Crank correlation codes aren't an unusual part of the software strategy. @@johnfountain8143

Hi, which oscilloscope from aliexpress do you reccomend?
Never looked at Aliexpresse for anything...
Not sure...

what tools you used for read ecu ❤ thank you

How you charge for this diagnose
Always watch this in x1.5 speed
Also engine stalling 101 is always scope the crankshaft and camshafts sensors and see what is happening after confirming the fuel rail pressure is ok.
I knew that noise every time you started the van sounded like the starter wasn't returning
