There is a phrase used several times in the book. 'plans within plans within plans,' which sums up how you explained the multiple motivations.
This movie made me feel like how a kid would have felt walking out of Empire Strikes Back. Overwhelming emotion and true creative spirit on this scale is honestly breathtaking.
Is it really that good? People are hyping it up like crazy. I have tickets for opening night.
@@matthewk4912 bro im a huge dune fan im going to see it on thursday ill tell u if the hype is true or not.
@@matthewk4912it was incredible
@@matthewk4912I saw it on Sunday with my friend and brother, believe the hype
@@matthewk4912it's really that good
Anakin's least favorite duology
Especially when you consider that Paul is a better Anakin than Anakin
It’s funny that movies that try so hard to appeal to the widest possible audience end up appealing to very few, whereas movies that just focus on the story, score, cinematics and excellent performances (even if they require some effort to follow) have amazing popularity and appeal. Sometimes I think Hollywood doesn’t know WTF they’re on about “appealing to a wide audience”. 🤦♂️
I have long hair that is look like a girl?
It’s because of the money, they just haven’t figured out yet it’s the great movies that make money. 😂
There are movies, and then there are EXPERIENCES.
IN MY LIFETIME, HERE ARE MY 'EXPERIENCES'.
1. JURASSIC PARK
2. THE MATRIX
3. INCEPTION
4. THE DARK KNIGHT
5. EVERYTHING, EVERYWHERE, ALL AT ONCE.
6. DUNE PART 1
7. DUNE PART 2.
Yes!! And Interstellar, Godzilla minus one, Spider man no way home, Endgame and Infinity War are experiences as well in my opinion, and spider man into the spider verse and across the spider verse too
Random story but I graduated two years back and I got really sick literally on graduation day, so I couldn't go to any of the parties my friends were going to. There I was being sad and lonely on my couch and on a whim I decided to watch a movie, that's the first time I watched Dune and it's literally become a comfort movie for me. What I love most about movies are the personal connections we form with them, so needless to say I'm so excited for this movie and I can't wait to see a Dune movie in the actual cinemas.
I’ve been watching all of Denis Villeneuve’s movies over the last two weeks, and if I love Dune: Part Two as much as I hope I do, Villeneuve will have made six rock solid to phenomenal films in a row. That’s awesome. If the box office for his films match the quality of his films at some point, Villeneuve could be right alongside Nolan as storytellers who consistently deliver fantastic films.
Prisoners is probably my favorite of his films. Maybe Part II will work some kinda miracle and surpass even that for me 🤔
@@NinthShinigami Have you seen Blade Runner 2049? If you haven’t, I highly recommend the film. It’s certainly a slower film, but after watching it for the fifth time yesterday, it affirmed how incredible it is. Even if you’ve seen the original Blade Runner and didn’t care much for it, I would still recommend 2049. Even though it’s extremely likely that I’ll love Dune: Part Two, I wouldn’t be surprised if 2049 comes out on top of my Villeneuve ranking.
@@MichaelTomsyck I know I have, but it’s been too long. Wouldn’t hurt for me to start revisiting some of his films if Sean maybe does do a Villeneuve ranking. Tho, I remember not being the biggest fan of Blade Runner in general. Great film. Just not something that called to me the way some other films do. But, given my recent rewatches of the Apes trilogy, Dune, and even Interstellar and some other films I was previously much lower on, who’s to say Blade Runner won’t probably hit harder for me now 😂
@@MichaelTomsyck I recently watched incendies. IMO one of denis best films aswell
Villeneuve is better than Nolan atp. Watch dune 2 and tell me I’m wrong it’s beyond phenomenal it’s mind blowing
It was a Masterpiece.
Cinematography: Hand them an Oscar
Sound/Editing: Hand them both Oscars
Timothy Chalemet: Hand him an Oscar.
Saw it at the fan screening on Sunday. It is, without a doubt, 100% the LOUDEST movie I have ever attended.
Yeah, it was pretty loud, but it was freaking great
My eardrums have bursted while watching 2/3’s of the movies I’ve watched in the past year
So hyped for this one. I know a few weeks back I said I wasn’t a big fan of Part I, not nearly as much as others. However, part of me decided to give it another rewatch. I came out long it even more. So much so, I gave it another rewatch right after! That rarely happens for me! Part I is sitting at an 8.5/10 for me right now, and I’m very much excited for Part II now! It jumped up to my most anticipated movie of the year even over My Hero Academia’s next movie, and I love My Hero way more than Dune! Really looking forward to this one Friday!
Meant to say came out liking it even more 😅
Dune is easily the thing to look forward to most all 2024 besides just movies
@@mugen9147 I can see where some would feel that way, but as much as I’m looking forward to it, I’m actually more looking forward to Final Fantasy VII Rebirth which is also in two days lol, and Bleach TYBW Part 3, which is actually the thing I’m most excited for this year. Dune Part II would be among the list for me tho…
This is what I’m most excited for in the entire year not just movies! Only two more days!
Irulan, and Shadam are pretty minor characters in the book. Nearly all the major events of this movie occur in the final 2 chapters too. It's ends quickly in the book too.
Bro I legit thought he was gonna give it an A+
I saw the first film a few weeks ago and I liked it despite it being a bit of a slow burn and dragging a bit in the end
I absolutely loved this movie, my only nitpicks is that I wished it was a little bit longer to give more breathing room for the last 3rd and I wanted more scenes with the villains because they were just too good.
We are watching an old time classic trilogy unfolding in front of our eyes. This is this generations Star Wars
I haven’t been this excited for a film in a LONG time… I can’t wait!
Really appreciate your attention to details in this review, in addition to adding contextual clips; it goes above & beyond!
When was the last time a big blockbuster movie was this universally loved by critics?
Top gun maverick?
John Wick: Chapter 4
Oppenheimer or Godzilla
godzilla
Top Gun: Maverick for sure.
Seeing this in full imax blew my face off. Absolutely incredible theatrical experience
I started off my Dune journey watching the 1984 Lynch's version then read the book. I'm not a Dune purist or an expert for that matter but Dune is unlike any typical (or for the lack of a better word, "mindless") sci-fi, in that, it's a far deeper concept than that. And the brilliance of Dune is that it a thinking man's sci-fi. Or as Frank Herbert himself would call it a "philosophical fiction". And that's what Dune is.
I am SOOOO excited for this one!!! So glad it’s getting the amount of praise that it is getting, great review Sean!🙌🏻🙌🏻
Dune 1 did world-building better- it was sacrificed in part 2 to progress the story
wild take
I loved yhe book and the films. Almost all of your positives are thanks to author Frank Herbert. He clearly created this world. I saw this Sunday and I could see that Denis' passion for the book and he succeeded in including Herbert's incredibly detailed story. Believe it or not, the film didnt even include everything from the book. This was a huge accomplishment, no doubt.
Did you get the Dune popcorn bucket?
The press screening was at an indie theater 😩
My exact nit pic with the movie was the ending being so quick and done, but my friend who has read the books says thats how it happens. Its a massacre, so its basically perfectly adapted from the source material!
You can tell Denis Villanueve loves the story.the fast he had tear all in his mind is WILD. ITS beautiful
What?
Saw the movie Sunday and I immediately thought “Sean is gonna give this an A and 9.5” 😂 saw it on imax with lasers and it was the best theater experience I’ve had
Sean did you get the Dune popcorn bucket when you went?
So hyped for this movie. This will be my first theatrically watched movie for this year. 😎✌️
Same here
Sean, love your work.
your videos bring comfort to a fellow movie nerd like me.
however, i feel like even though this review is spoiler free; i do think that you are utilizing a ton of key footage that serves as a spoiler to someone who hasn’t seen the film yet. i don’t mean to criticize because i know you work really hard.
i just thought i’d give a bit of constructive feedback.
thank you for creating a space where cinephiles feel welcome and heard.
keep up the great work.
god bless. ✨
I havent seen the movie yet but in the books the emperor was really only in 1 scene prior to the last 30 pages and Irulun really isnt in it except explaing who she is as she plays a major part in dune messiah once they make this a trilogy
Gonna see it tonight gonna go to dune double feature where they play parts 1 n 2 as double billing I can't wait here in Australia I got my ticket I get to watch the whole adaptation of Dune tonight I can't wait.
Denis Villeneuve is an interesting director, I am watching through his filmography I can't wait for this though I love the book and the movie
Happy to say I’m actually excited for it now and I came around on Part 1 a lot more. And agreed, mans got good films, Prisoners is my favorite personally
@@NinthShinigami I'm glad you enjoy part 1 now and not to spoil my ranking but prisoners might be very high on that list
Are u gonna read the book or listen to the audiobook u should cuz there is so much more thats left out especially the sandworms n the spice
Dune Part Two laughs in the face of Avatar and Avatar The Way of Water in terms of beautiful spectacle
Gotta wait till Friday before we get it in the UK but me and mine can’t wait to see it
Well considering my avatar image it's no secret I'm a huge Dennis fan, and will definitely be seeing this in the cinema. thank you for the review Chandler !
I gotta ask did they give you those sandworm popcorn buckets in the press screening? If they did, how was it?
I really enjoyed the first one but I have a feeling I'm going to LOVE this one!
Cannot wait to see this film this weekend.
Loved the first film and I'm ready for this movie to blow me away. Dennis Villinue is absolutely one of my favorite directors working today and I'm completely ready to see the film and I look forward to a new ranking of his films from tou
A Half mediocre movie in a see of Mediocre movies is still Mediocre.
Absolutely loved it. As a novel reader, the changes were done in good taste and worked better on screen and better served the film narrative in my opinion. Just an epic triumph. This is cinema. This is Sci-Fi.
Tried Factor and it was so delicious! Great recommendation!
🔥🔥🔥🔥
@@SeanChandlerTalksAbout Great review, and I'm glad you uploaded it to RT. You've forgotten to upload your Wonka review, though! I wish you'd do that.
This movie was fireee, seen it twice already and def gonna see it a 3rd in IMAX.. my fav parts were when timmy learned how to ride the biggest sandworm, austin butlers black n white arena scene, and when all the Fremon pull up on all those worms at the end battle. 10/10 for me going to buy the 4k bluray
I love the sound design of the movie made me feel every emotion of each scene
Seeing it Thursday at 3,
The scenes on the Harkonnen planet are in infrared black and white. Thats why it look so singular
12:51 "black and white is not interesting" 😬 ... I disagree.
Ehh that statement was made in a very specific context. So I'm not sure what you could be disagreeing with
Will be watching on Saturday. Hope this actually is gonna give us a spoiler review!
Seeing Part 2 Saturday. Can't wait. I love Part 1 and I'm excited to see the pay off in this movie.
Saw it sunday and first thing that came to my mind when I left the theatre was... I need to see this again ASAP. Absolutly loved it. Read the books many times so I was kinda scared they were not gonna be able to stick the landing, but I think they made a very good job. 9.5/10
Dune is this generations star wars and lord of the rings. The epicness and scale is easily on their level
What this movie was able to do can be understated, definitely going to see it again
I have read the book and loved the first one!
Great review Sean and I excited to see this movie I love the first part I been looking forward to this movie and I did read the first Dune book
Great review! I agree with everything. Some things are rushed, it should have had another 2 hours. (And I watched it in a maraton showing, both parts one after the other)
Such a beautiful great movie with so many talented actors. Everyone did a really good job. And the movie had gorgeous scenes too. Timothee and Zendaya did so incredibly well, everyone did. I love Florence Pugh so I wish she was in it more
Sean is the king of talking with his hands. 😊
The only good thing about this movie is the sand worm. I can't understand why people like it. The entire movie is like this. His mom drinks lsd, then she tells him to drink it. Suddenly he becomes dr.Strange with the time stone.
I think you might have missed about 7,000 details and missed kind of the entire point of everything.
Sand is overrated...
I don't like sand
You'd get on really well with Darth Vader then 🤣
Such an enjoyment to see in theaters. Also a fresh take since I haven’t read the books or seen the 84’ dune movie. Acting and action were top tier and story was an enjoyable watch from start to finish.
Read the book then reevaluate your rating. The film glossed over so much that the film played it tame with little explanation on specific plot points.Imagine if Game of Thrones was relegated to a 2 plus hour film. Nuff said. READ THE BOOK!!
Solidified Denis as one of my favorite directiors of all time
Amazing movie, lovedoved it 9/10
...But not gonna lie, I was kinda pissed that they completely breezed past the final battle that the trailers had been bigging up for sometime. Denis is one of the greatest filmmakers of all time but he must not long a good lengthy action scene, once his action scene starts its over in no time or it just cuts and breezes past it when its getting exciting. Usually I don't mind when the filmmaking is this good but this battle had been highly anticipated and hyped up.
Every dune 2 review pisses me off. All they do is remind me that dune 2 isn’t out yet
So true.
True
Im excited to watch this movie!!!!
Saw it at the fan screening on Sunday and it’s a masterpiece 10/10
I saw the movie in IMAX for the 2’nd time last night: Part 2 eats Part 1 for breakfast! It’s not even a close race, as far as I’m concerned. But make no mistake, I really dig Part 1, and Part 2 only elevates it. It’s all one big movie now! :-) Part 2 is just a way more satisfying film on every level. I’m not even a big sci-fi nut, but THIS one melted my face off, and OBLITERATED my fucking brain!! 🤯 And the significant part is, that this sequel is also much more appealing to those whom might not be the biggest fans of Sci-fi to begin with. We had three lady-friends with us last night, whom only kinda liked the first but LOVES this 2’nd film!
Part 2 speaks MUCH better to a wider audience than Part 1 did. This one has way more exhilarating grand action. It’s better paced, it’s got HUMOR, it’s EASILY way more exciting, way more intense, and it also has an EMOTIONAL core that was lacking in Part 1. All around it’s just better.
The entire team stepped up their game in massive ways, within this sequel. Dune: Part Two will be THE sci-fi flick to beat, for the next coming 15-20 years, and it’ll win BEST PICTURE Next year 🥳👍
Dune is passion. Shame disney crapped on Star Wars so badly.
As a heads up, after the 1st book... the sequels get SUPER weird and trippy. It'd be difficult to make appealing to general audiences like these 2 films did for the 1st one. If anyone could do it the this director might be able to, but its a steep uphill battle.
It's a very good remake of Tremors 😅
True haha
Dune will be great!
I never thought we would get a block buster again like this after LOTR… man wasn’t I wrong !!! This movie is PEAK 🔥
I saw part 1 for the first time a few weeks ago and I enjoyed it, will definitely have to rewatch both it and part 2 for more accurate readings but I enjoyed both though I wonder how people who read the book feel about it?
I found the first one to be very boring, but i am glad so many people are enjoying this franchise
Best movie I have seen in years literally ❤
I’m curious as to how Dave Bautista is in this…I thought he was a bit over the top in the first.
Can’t wait though
He was great
he’s good. everyone gives a great performance.
Watched the Dune 1984 Alternative Edition Redux again yesterday and YES it is technically not as perfect as the new Dune movie but has better music and better actors and much more magic and mysticism than the new sterile movie. Despite all the bombastic efforts, the new movie doesn't grab me! It's just pure Hollywood digital cinema that lacks the essential flair. I absolutely cannot understand why this remake has produced so many enthusiasts. Everything left me quite cold and many actors are absolutely disappointing for me. All the mental explanations won't change the fact that this remake simply lacks that certain extra something and spice❗
as someone who’s read the books, Paul is by no means a hero, if anything id argue he’s the main villain of the series, which should be fully shown if they make part 3
I mean, ultimately Paul and Leto 2 steered humanity away from inevitable extinction. The "greater good" I think a very big part of the books was a study of morality
I love the movie 9/10.
I had the same thought with the ending. 2h 30min buildup for a 15min finale. thought part 1 was a 6/10😂
This movie was much better than the first one. Nothing happened in part one. A LOT happened here.
Great review👍
I just rewatched Dune for the 3rd time to get ready for Dune 2 and MAN it’s probably just me but that movie is not interesting at all, hopefully Dune 2 is more fast paced
Begun the intergalactic jihad has. - Yoda 😁
Great video sean! I'm seeing this Sunday, very hyped. I think the first Dune is a bit overated, so I'm a bit worried that I won't adore this, but I'm still exited
Dune part 2- G. O. A. T 2024 without a doubt
Read the books. Part 1 to slow. It looked good but so slow.
I am so excited to watch this as I really enjoyed the first movie!
When ranking all of Denis Villeneuve's film include his international films like Polytechnique and Incendies.
10/10 one of my favorite films of all time.
14:15 the movie looks like 250-300M
Just saw it, absolutely amazing
Article 370 also released this week
Review this film
Disappointed 😞....
I really enjoyed your review. One of the best I have seen on TH-cam.
One small disagreement is when you said, "black and white is not interesting". There are examples of the use of black and white in film that work very well, and it creates such great contrasts in lighting and shadows. Your statement almost reminded me of when my kids were younger and when something came on that was black and white, they'd say they didn't like it. And yet, as they grew older and are now in their 30's they like the effect.
first
Dune looks good because they shot as much as they could on location or with sets. That’s simple.
Shooting on location is a simple concept, but it also has MANY MANY MANY complications that come with it.
I saw it Sunday night and it immediately entered my top 3 favorite movies of all time. Mind-blowing. I’m having the time of my life with this and Godzilla Minus One coming out within 3 months of each other 😂
LOL.
"He's not just a good guy"? LOL, Paul is the ultimate villain of the saga, he's Hitler and Stalin rolled into one.
What kind of a douche would write this? I have read the books but how much attention do you need online to ruin other's enjoyment that you're not getting in the real world? Pathetic.
