- Ingrown toenails affect many people at different times in their life, and podiatrists are the best health care professional to treat them. There are different causes, they come in different severities, and there are different treatment options available. This particular ingrown toenail is caused by a spike of nail that is piercing the tip of the toe, and it removed by Harley Street podiatrist, Steven Thomas. Remember to watch part 2 of this two part series for a detailed walk through.

Cancel background music plz
Thank you for the feedback. Much appreciated 🙏
Turn off your volume
And put on your favourite music at the precise volume you like 🤔
It covers the patient's screams
@@jimmalley then we miss the voiceover. The autistic part of me finds the vast majority of music an annoyance 😂
Had that plus the side on both sides of each big toe. Felt so much better when the podiatrist fixed and put some chemical on the sides to prevent future growth.
Ah, a partial nail avulsion with phenol to both sides of both big toes! Glad it went well for you. Thanks for sharing!
Remove sounds
Thanks for the feedback 🙌
Subbed from America! I've cut my toenail in quick and now it is swollen. I think there's hidden nail there but can't get to it. Wish you guys were here to get this out. Lol. Hope you do videos on how to find that nail. Thanks!
Although I don't advise patients to treat ingrown toenails themselves, that might be a good video idea! Hope you can get it sorted quickly. Thanks for the sub! 🫶
Seeing the huge spike that was hiding under my skin was so relieving
Hope it's resolved now! Thanks for sharing 🙌
Just noticed something you missed. Seems like this patient didnt receive the smiley face on the bandage.
Haha, I will try to remember on the next one 😄
I just use the bottom of those floss picks. They have a sharp bottom and you can use that to get in and lift the spike. It fucking hurts tho but bite down and get it out. Feels so much better after
Ouch, sounds sore. Maybe see your local podiatrist? 🤪 thanks for the comment, wishing you the best 🙏
Omg just did the same thing, hurt like hell but worked great and got it out! No pain now thank god worth it lol
Ouch! Glad it's fixed though! 😆🙌
Got the same thing going on now. Same toe. Same spot. Been like that for years. Usually I'm able to catch it, but this time it's really dug in. Got an appointment for Monday the 10th, but I'm gonna be limping until then.
This would be much better without the music
Thanks for the feedback! 🙌
Would salons use something to numb the pain for toenail spikes or ingrown toenails? If not or if yes, is there anythin i can do before i go?
Hi, local anaesthetic injections work best. There are some anaesthetic creams, too, but they just numb the surface and take a while to work. Beauty salons won't likely have access to these, though. If you have a nail spike like this, see your local podiatrist. Thanks for the comment and good luck with it!
Which one would be worse the needle from the anesthetics or just doing it yourself?
Good question! I often have this discussion with patients. Sometimes, we try without anaesthetic, and then, if too painful, do it under anaesthesia. By the way, the needle piercing the skin is usually not too bad, but the anaesthetic being injected stings more due to the acidity difference. It varies between individual how much pain they experience for the same injection. Thanks for the comment 🙌
Nice work but I would use a blade instead of big awkward nippers 👍
Nice. Sounds like you are very skilled 💪 thanks for commenting 🙌
Sir. Those pliers does not fithis toe
Thanks for your comment. But it worked 🤷♂️ 😇
I’m curious as to what you hope to gain with the background noise!
I thought it was relaxing. Obviously not for some people! Unfortunately, I cannot remove the music from this video unless I edit and reupload. Thanks for the feedback
Isn’t a small tight elastic band applied to stop blood pouring everywhere
Hi! Yes, always when performing a partial nail avulsion with phenolisation - see th-cam.com/video/PBc3HVmaZO8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=25OKQQCR-XQUrL2c
It could have also been used for this procedure but wasn't necessary. Thanks for the comment 🙌
Nice video and good to see one from the UK😊
Thanks very much, and thanks for watching 😇
Where can I get that ingrown rasp?
It's called a blacks file. I get them from a podiatry supplier company 😀
Look up the toe bro
Yes, he's super cool 😎 hope to meet him one day.
Me and my friend are both 11, she has many ingrown toenails that often have to be removed. How does she get through this????😨😨
Hi! Unfortunately it's hard to give individual advice without examining the patient. It's best to see a good podiatrist close to you for a tailored plan. This might involve regular maintenance, using surgical spirit to keep some areas dry, wearing shoes with wide toe boxes to prevent pressure to the sides of the nails etc. Wishing your friend the best with it 🙌
Is it painful when you remove it, and how long does it take to fix?
Hi, this type of ingrown nail caused by a spike of nail needed a local anaesthetic injection first because it was piercing deep. Milder cases may not need an injection. Local anaesthetic injections sting initially but then you don't feel any pain during the procedure. After the anaesthetic injection wears off (1-2 hours later) the toe can throb for a day or so. If the ingrown nail is more severe than this then a partial nail avulsion procedure with phenol may be required. Look this up on my channel! Thanks!
@@thelondonpodiatrist I'm done with my surgery. Honestly, I felt hurt when they injected anesthesia into my finger, but then I felt nothing. It took me two weeks to fix my toe, and now the nail is growing. Thank you so much!
Glad your nail is now settled! 🙌
@ZabeenOfficial I want to cry just watching the video haha I have two ingrown nails on both my big toes and I have yet to go see a doctor about it
Sorry to hear this. See your local podiatrist please 🙏
Oh is that what those are called, i just told my friends it looked like a hedgehog shaped lump of toenail i dug out
Or harpoon nail. Sometimes, the term harpoon is reserved for ones that are left and end up piercing through the toe and out the other end at the tip 🤯
Thanks for commenting 🙌
Excellent work I would love to find someone like you in my area I've just noticed your video's but have subscribed as would like to see more of your work and its a pleasure watching someone like myself who is British thanks 😊
Thanks, that's very kind. Hope the videos are useful.
I have one right now, and it's so painful. I want to get it removed, but the procedure scares me because of more pain.
Hi! Sorry to hear about your toe. Most patients tell me that the toe is no more painful after the procedure if it is already painful beforehand. 🙏
@@thelondonpodiatristok thanks
so it wasn't as bad, It hurt. It was inflamed and red. I was fed up with the pain so i treated myself. It had also gotten infected with pus in the corner it was all yellow, and it had popped with all the yellow pus oozed out, and started bleeding oh and it didn't hurt. but I clipped it with a different type of nail clipper. I pulled back the skin and clipped it. It feels a bit better, and I'll clip it more later. Also, it looked like a spike. One more question how do you stop them from happening?
I hope your nail is OK. Please see your local podiatrist if it hasn't settled. You can't 100% prevent ingrown toenails but - wear shoes with enough width in the toe boxes, and when you cut your nails make sure you don't leave a spike in the corners. Wishing you the best 🙌
@@thelondonpodiatrist yeah it's gone
No music please omg.
Thanks for the feedback. I might upload another version without music as so many people have commented the same 🙏
You're the -Toe Bro- Toe Bloke!
Lol, I love that guy 😎
British is best. God save the King.
You're too kind 🙏
Won't it just happen again when that starts growing out?
It was cut back with a curved edge, so it shouldn't. Only if the patient cuts the nail badly again, leaving a spike. If you haven't seen Part 2, watch that one for a more detailed walk through. Thanks for the comment!
You need to add more ring light. Its so dark
Thanks for feedback. I'll upgrade the lighting 🙌
Camera angle bad can't see .
Thanks for the feedback 🙌
Man I wish there is a podiatrist here where I live cuz I have one rn and there’s no podiatrist here just local manicure and the way they remove it hurts like hell just sum good ol alcohol some nippers and blades are what they use I’ve had it removed 5 to 6 times already
Ouch, sorry to hear that! What country are you? Hope you can find a podiatrist. Thanks for sharing 🙌
Maurelio from Brazil is the best. So loving, cares so much for patients. We need him here. UK no injections needed,
@@thelondonpodiatrist I live in the Philippines in camarines Norte province so there is not really a city around the nearest city is 4 to 6 hour’s away 🫤
Ah, that's a shame. Hope there will soon be some people training to be a podiatrist in Philipines. It's a bit too far for me to travel. Wishing you the best 🙏
@@thelondonpodiatrist God bless brother!
👍👍👍👍👍👍

Background music is annoying
Apologies. A common comment. Taking into consideration for future videos. Thanks for the feedback 🙌
My big toe nails grow inwards how can I prevent this
2:16
Hi! It's hard to say without seeing you. See your local podiatrist who can assess you as an individual. They may be able to manage it conservatively, or if not, a partial nail avulsion should resolve it permanently. Thanks for the comment!
Had to watch this on mute coz i just couldn’t with music 🙉
I'm so surprised to hear that so many people can't tolerate the background music. I definitely have learned from this for future videos. Unfortunately, I can not remove the audio from this particular video, but I'm thinking of uploading the video as a separate video without any music 🤔
@@thelondonpodiatrist it's a learning curve when it comes to youtubing I guess. Well the fact that you're talking in the video we don't need the extra sounds. I came across your video from watching The Toe Bro because I like watching how others do their treatments.
Ah yes, that's good feedback. I appreciate it. Love the Toe Bro guy too 😎
Nothing like my surgery in US, looks very painful!!
Thanks for commenting. This is a conservative nail cut back under local anaesthesia - no pain. Watch part 2 if you'd like an explanation for this method th-cam.com/video/WCMYxuYAi_I/w-d-xo.htmlsi=1jHscvToh5O1RU7H
The most common method of nail surgery, which might be what you had, is a partial nail avulsion with phenolisation. You can watch that here: th-cam.com/video/PBc3HVmaZO8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=OeDbiLb7rUrqDwxH
Lots of love to you and the US 🙏
it will be painful because the nail is embedded in the skin. Not nice to slag off someone like that
Kathy's comment suggested that the procedure is painful. The procedure isn't painful if you've had an anaesthetic injection - although anaesthetic injections sting. The injection is less painful than trying to fix the nail without anaesthesia hence why it was done this way. The toe was, of course, painful before the procedure, with the spike of nail pierced deep into the toe. Hope that clarifies things. Thanks for the comment 🙏
No music required please.
Thanks for the feedback. Is it the intro music or music during the procedure that's annoying? Or both? Thanks! 🙌
@@thelondonpodiatrist My hearing has never ever been a 100%, and any music when there is someone talking has always been a problem for me. So, if you wish to talk, then please, no music at all.
Thanks, I appreciate the feedback 🙏
Painful
They weren't in as much pain as I expected, though! 😃
Shorten your videos by about 60%
You want it to get straight to the action, huh? 😇
If you spoke less, you wouldn't need a part 2
Thanks for the feedback 🫶
Please ignore the negative feedback. I watched both parts and felt nothing wrong with them. I learned a few and was able to get the spike myself (tho it hurt, I already feel better). Thank you for your videos! @@thelondonpodiatrist
Thanks. Glad the videos were helpful. 🙌
My phone dropped on my toe it’s ingrown
Ouch! Hope you've seen your local podiatrist! 🙌
@@thelondonpodiatrist I will

The phone’s ingrown? Does it hurt when it rings?
Lol
Looks like substandard work. The nail looks like a mess.
Sounds like you need to watch Part 2... th-cam.com/video/WCMYxuYAi_I/w-d-xo.htmlsi=-qhqR9osMToAWGG-
Think I need sum of my thick rough skin removed from around my nail cuz it's sore inflamed an I can't take it anymore
Pls come to California state prison system we need u Doc
Thank you! It would be wonderful if I was insured to work over in California. Hope your toe settles soon. All the best.
