The nice thing about these videos is that the normal working man can recognize themselves in them. You buy the cars that we all secretly want to buy, but often don't dare to take the risk. I've been following you since the Z4 and these videos about (older) cars remain the most fun and appealing. Greetings from the Netherlands (Oh and ofcourse I like the Porsche)
That's a cracking looking bit of kit. Far better in silver than the usual black too. A coil sprung V6 is likely to be a far easier thing to own than a V8/turbo too. Nice, looks like the perfect car to do a trip to the Alps video with ... Harry's Garage style. Looking forward to more content with this one!
Hahaha, Your story is pretty similar to mine's. I bought a Touareg 3.2 in a perfect condition, 80K miles on it. Love this car (except for its thirsty), spacious (two kids), good traveler and it gives you the possibility of off roading if you like it. I hope you enjoy that Cayenne. Good luck!
Owned a 2004 Cayenne S for 10 years and purchased in 2012 for $10,000 in the 10 years of ownership I spent $ 14,000 in repairs and put approximately 96,000 miles on it and had 145,000 miles on the clock. You will have to replace the gas struts for the rear gate every 3 years, the drive shaft will need to be repaired every 60,000 miles - headlights also a problem. Water pump and valve cover gaskets everything seems to go after 10 to 12 years. Not bad to work on would advise getting a Durametric diagnostic unit if you plan on doing all your own repairs. Loved the vehicle just not the parts cost.
I am literally on my way this Sat to buy one just like that, silver w/ turbo exhaust mod on the 3.2l V6 - it is a 56 plate tho so big tax bill but I have also wanted one for ages..... there is just something really appealing about them for reasons I cant actually describe. I actually wanted mine on coils & not the air suspension as they are so old now it can be a money sink keeping that air suspension in good order.
I had my 2005 v6 for nearly 1 year now. It’s been an absolute blast to own so far and I love it so much. The v6 makes me less worried for large garage bills. It’s not super fast but at the end of the day it’s not made for speed anyway. I hope you enjoy yours Joel.
Okay, it doesn't matter what Porsche or Audi or Volkswagen say. It's not a V6. It's a VR6. It's legendary give it its cred where it's due. They don't sound like an inline. 6. They don't sound like a V6. They sound like a VR6 because they are a VR6.
You look perfectly suited for this motor Joel. At the end of the day your keeping a beautiful example of an iconic car on the road being used daily for what it was designed for . I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that the future does not hold any expensive surprises when it ends up in the mechanics bay.
He made a safe bet. As a former Porsche sales agent I would always advise the 3.2 or 3.6 with steel springs to people who wanted to drive one on a budget. Less complicated parts te break or replace, cheaper maintenance bills long term. Lovely car, but just love the facelift more because of the headlights.
Fully behind the silver, looks fantastic. The dark colours end up looking ropey so easily. As with many weird cars of that era, its grown on me and I quite like them now. Enjoy :) Oh and that V6 sounds mint
Owned two over the last few years. A 4.5s to begin with and a 3.2 afterwards. Loved both. The V8 was sweet, the 3.2 surprising in its delivery and road manners. I'll definitely have another. Enjoy!
@@Spartansrule118 Very, but you need to keep up the maintenance and on the V8 do some work on the coolant system (replace the plastic pipes with the metal aftermarket kit).
I believe this generation of Cayenne is literally one of the nicest looking SUV's ever made. Mixture of modern and classic boxy, you just can't beat it
I think you can really modernise a car with a few little touches. I had an 09 golf having stepped down from a brand new lease Astra and the aftermarket head unit with CarPlay just didn’t make it seem like it was a much older car (although it was). I think executed correctly it can really enhance an old car.
Looks awesome mate, I think it’s any car enthusiasts dream to have a car with a Porsche badge on the bonnet😎 It looks like you’ve got a great example there, I think silver suits the Cayenne, it’s a classy colour, for a classy car. I’ve had silver cars for the last 10 years, they look lovely in the summer time when cleaned and polished up, and in the winter time they hide the dirt well! And any scratches etc are invisible unless you get close up. If the garage health check goes well, I would look at sorting the things like the rear wiper etc, and get a full detail done on it, those scratches at the top of the doors will polish out, and get the wheels refurbed, I saw a few bits of damage. Overall cracking car that looks the part, sounds the part, and as a bonus it’s practical aswell. Hopefully you have good luck with this car, from what I can see, and what you’ve said, everything is pointing towards it being a good example 👍🏻
Oh Joel!!! Love the channel mate - been watching for absolutely years. Love any old Porsche myself. Enjoy that car and I look forward to your content with it :)
Great video. Big hello from Levi Dance (Poetic Propulsion) loved this review. Those bose systems are fab... very much under rated! In my opinion, got one in my 2013 infiniti 4x4 and love it. I had the pleasure in riding in Jayemms Porsche Cayenne and think I might go that way next after the infiniti. Keep up the grand work Joel. 👏
Like it. My suspicion is that the exhaust has been fiddled with to good effect. tt sounds more like a friends GTS than any V6 Cayenne I have heard before.
Interesting that this was sold and purchased through bca for a measly £1500, most of the stuff that goes through there has major mechanical faults so I would be a little concerned myself, especially for the price paid
I'd love to see the long term report on this V6 and then perhaps the same on a V8 version of the same age at a later date. This is a car i used to dislike and now i would quite fancy owning, if the repair costs are not too scary. I dont mind high fuel costs as that is predictable. Its the mechanical and electical "surprises" that frighten me. I would really like to try one of these and look forward to future reviews. Good luck with it Joel and hope you arent in too much pain from 24 hours in the XC90. Merry Crimbo / happy New Year
I've always thought replacement infotainment units are a good idea. Sure, cheap ones can be hot garbage, but a decent one can give a car from the 00's/10's all the mod-cons you find in a brand new car. And it's relative easy to find model-specific ones. I generally think car design peaked in that 15 year period in terms of styling and so being able to add that modern convenience is just a win all round. And sometimes that common colour/engine combo you'd normally avoid can be the most novel one to buy. And a basic, well maintained car is going to be more enjoyable than a more special version that's got tons of deferred and late maintenance, so hopefully the Cayenne will scratch that itch nicely for you.
Great job, Joel. I’m a Range Rover fan, but really good to see a different car on the fleet, and see how you get on with it. Looking forward to the next instalment!
Well done sir, your video's on the Z4 were the reason I bought one and loved it in the time I had it. And now I also have a 955 Cayenne S which I went a little ott with and turned into a Transsyberia tribute, great cars!
Its great that the insurance is so reasonable at £750 for what is a big old beast. Looks great and a little different too. Not many of these around now. Low insurance will help cover the high fuel costs. Hopefully it will be reliable. Cant believe no heated seats though. Criminal. Good luck with it
Looks good Joel, I'm pleased you got what you wanted. I'm quite confident it will be more reliable than Range rover L322. I've had 5 VW Touaregs for towing caravans, and never been let down once. They're made on the same production line as your Cayenne and share many parts. I'm sure you won't regret it. They are extremely well built. Enjoy Mate.
They’re great….you hopefully already have the prop shaft done at that age. The rear struts in the boot will go, window regulators go on all vow/Porsche. Use a heavy duty battery. Keep a few abs sensors in case!, but a good buy tough and reliable.
I have a sweet spot for the mk1 V6 Cayenne/Touareg. Just find them exquisite machines in a kind of 'I know what I need' fashion. The 2din space in the dash fits well a regular modern media, which makes life way easier. Congrats for the new rig!
You're brave mate, good luck! To be fair, the shape has grown on me a bit since they were launched, but there's a reason you can get them cheap... I'll take a ball park swing at £2k to put everything right when it goes to the specialist. Should make interesting content for your channel though, be good to see you getting on the spanners again like the Volvo.
Can’t go wrong with silver really, looks smart and doesn’t show the dirt as much Reminds me of an old 2002 X5 we had at work , silver , black cloth , manual 3.0 petrol….basic as anything but was a decent car and fun in the snow !
Great video Joel, I can relate to the ride quality issue, I had a 2018 3.0 Diesel (Platinum Edition) on 21 inch wheels, looked great but ride was poor (with hindsight my fault as I think the one I test drove had air suspension and ride was fine). Handed it back after 3 years when PCP balloon payment was due and whatever I buy now will have 19 inch wheels at most. Good luck with the ownership experience.
This is certainly one of the cars I'm trying to convince myself that I'm brave enough to own,and it'll be interesting to see how you get on with it Joel. Your also local to me,so if you get flashed by an old Multipla, you know why!
That was my car 😊 Great car, too thirsty for my runs from West Berks to West London. Well looked after. Bought from a friend who looked at many and I sold to my ex wife….who has the dog. Stop gap for her as her Audi failed and she sold for a new Audi that….was better on fuel!!!! Tip tronic microswitch diagnosed as faulty on the selector lever, hence intermittent operation.
I love it! Get that handbrake fixed, every time you use park as a brake you are damaging your transmission. Also, hard ride contributed by 20” wheels and lack of tyre taking absorption. Air suspension costs a fortune to fix and bursts airbags or blows compressors.
You’ve got to keep this in perspective to what you paid for it,don’t forget that if you have the odd blip .Likewise don’t overspend on it then you’ll be able to walk away at some point still in the black and having scratched an itch 👍
Our 5.0L V8 Land Rover LR4 gets the same consumption in the winter (in Canada the gas changes throughout the year to accommodate -40ºC weather, fuel consumption gets worse). Surprising since the LR4 is probably a fair bit heavier, has 3 rows and a big V8...
Always good when you manage to buy a car you've lusted after even if it's not in your first-choice of colour. Will be interested to see how reliable this is, and how much it costs to run. Well done, sir !
been thinking of getting one of these for a while now, my mate had a first generation one and the driveshaft broke, I'll see how yours goes then I'll make a decision, good luck with it
I find the acceleration to be brisk enough, especially when you switch it down to first. The gearbox does tend to be a bit enthusiastic. Sometimes I do want to drive around in low revs. Now I just need to get my 928 S4 SE back on the road.
sounds sweet, hope they dont crucify it on inspection, you will need deep pockets for any repairs though, the brakes alone on them are crazy prices. look forward to the next one .
when your inner child is constantly giggling, exited and forced to talk to anyone about this piece of joy, it might be the right decision, no matter what... The last time, I felt somewhat simmilar, I bought a one owner Alfa Romeo 156 2.5 V6 for cheap. How it looked, sounded and drove left me in a permenent smile...
Lovely winter workhorse, interesting choice with the VW engine! Will be interesting for you to perhaps change it to a proper V8 at some point and see which you prefer.
Great to finally see in a Cayenne, Joel! I know how you feel in terms of the excitement and empowerment you feel when driving it! All that was missing in mine was the tan leather rather than the grey I had. The Turbo unit and the power delivery never got old, but that V6 sounds sweet! Very much look forward to seeing how you get on!
Owned two, both the 4.5S. Great car’s, not as expensive as you may think, to maintain, but I guess you’re about to find out. Looking forward to your experience. If you go looking for the battery, it’s under the passenger seat.! Well it is in the S Way better than a Range Rover, one of which I currently own.
Cracking Porker that Joel. It looks great in the silver. Your gearbox may need a service to get it working properly. Looking forward to the up coming content. Is a trip down to Bavaria possible? It’s stunning down there, highly recommended
Cayenne's have been my guilty pleasure for years but I've never been brave enough to buy one. I've always been concerned with the repair costs and if the 3.2 would be enough as it's a big car. I will follow this series with interest.
It's a fantastic car. I also own a Cayenne. Mine is an S 4.5 V8. I bought for 2k at 126k miles. I've always bought newer cars but I'm in love with this cayenne. So much car for little money. Might want to convert it into LPG see if that saves you some trips to the petrol station.
They aren't struts on the Cayenne and the damped hinges are quite pricey and labour intensive to replace, so people tend to just live with it or carry round a stick of wood (Last resort). No Air suspension is a good thing as its less to go wrong. Don't be surprised if they have bypassed the Bose system all together.
It looks like a really lovely car, mate, and I love it in silver. I know you said it's not a priority for you, but it would be nice to get it cosmetically on point if it doesn't cost too much, as it looks pretty close to mint already. Also, can't believe how cheap it was. To throw in another cliche, "It's a lot of car for the money." 🤣
Nice one mate! I'm just searching for a new daily and have been between 957 S or GTS, and 958.1 S. I'm planning a overland build, and most likely will go for a 958!
Congratulations!! Mine is the same color, 2006 3.2 V6. I also wants to update the OEM radio with a new one like yours. Do you know what brand is it? Regards.
I had exactly those same marks on my old car. Also silver. Definitely from driving down a prickly bush lane or driveway. You can get it out easily enough with a wet sanding if it’s not too deep. Cheap enough to wet sand and re lacquer it too
You could have gotten the same engine in your TT. This is technically a VR6. VW calles it a v6 in Porsches, and has called it a v6 in the last fer years.
Congrats Joel! I recently bought a Cayenne 958 2012 diesel which I love. Would be happy for you to drive to compare the generations :) At the time I was considering the original model you bought as i really think they are coming into their own now and have all the potential to be a future clasic. look forward to more updates on this. Green laneing? Scotland 500?
Congratulations on the Porsche Cayenne! Among your collection of cars, this is the sole one whose cost aligns with pricing in my home country of South Africa. I'm eagerly anticipating the routine maintenance: discovering Porsche's estimates for minor repairs, observing its post-detail cleanliness, and evaluating its performance after a long journey. Furthermore, I'm interested in a direct comparison between the Porsche Cayenne and the Volvo XC90 to examine the contrast between German and Swedish engineering. Given that the Volvo XC90 operates solely on front-wheel drive for now, I'm curious about testing the Porsche Cayenne's capabilities in light off-roading scenarios. Moreover, I'd be thrilled if you could engage in an experience alongside a group of overlanders, camping for a night or two with the Porsche. This would provide an exciting opportunity to explore the vehicle's adaptability in different terrains and conditions.
Glad you got what you wanted joel you will have more piece of mind after a front to back inspection hope it goes well for you joel and look forward to an update on it and videos of a few road trips with it 😀 👍
Nice car! I used to want one of these! I’ve recently got a similar age Range Rover sport and like you I generally don’t like my cars to be messed with with aftermarket parts (I don’t mind rear tints for me they are a must just not too dark) but I’ve gotta say… I miss having a built in up to date sat nav, and phone connectivity and I found myself looking at aftermarket head units so I can have the same features that are in my i3. I do think I’ll end up installing an aftermarket unit like yours.
Love the quad exhausts. I think that this model has definitely improved with age, the looks are no longer jarring. I hope that you have lots of fun and trouble free motoring.
Good luck mate - I think V6 is a good bet and I nearly bought a 4.5 V8 off Christian from heel & toe last year and I wish I did as I ended up with a bit of a lemon of a Turbo. Dark blue over grey in great cosmetic condition - paid £7k, spend £3k on it in 2 months and sold 6 months later for £7,250 - was off the road more than it was on but had everything done on it so hopefully the current owner has a much better ownership experience than I did (!!) Oh and my girlfriend hated the Cayenne, I still think they're great!
Sooooo, what do you think?

Well done, sir !
been thinking of getting one of these for a while now, my mate had a first generation one and the driveshaft broke, I'll see how yours goes then I'll make a decision, good luck with it
What a well composed video...Silver looks good on that car!
Fingers crossed!
Right, I think a retrofitting series is in order? Might as well buy some heated seats and all the stuff needed for auto lights/wipers 👀
Stunning car , steal at the price look forward to efficiency runs etc 👍
I love it Joel and it sounds amazing.
Great purchase Joel! I’m driving a 2008 4.8s. Really love it! Have the same feeling for it!😊
Got to love the impulse buying looking forward to seeing it
Haven't watched any of your videos recently because they weren't something I was interested in but I'm back and can't wait to see more
Thanks so much!
Omg live it joel what a lovely motor, looking forward to watching this one 😊
You and me both!
when your inner child is constantly giggling, exited and forced to talk to anyone about this piece of joy, it might be the right decision, no matter what...
Yeah I’m definitely keen to own a V8, perhaps a turbo at some point
Great to finally see in a Cayenne, Joel! I know how you feel in terms of the excitement and empowerment you feel when driving it! All that was missing in mine was the tan leather rather than the grey I had. The Turbo unit and the power delivery never got old, but that V6 sounds sweet! Very much look forward to seeing how you get on!
Silver always looks good. See what next one says, but you look pleased. 👍👍👍👍🎄
Owned two, both the 4.5S.
Great car’s, not as expensive as you may think, to maintain, but I guess you’re about to find out.
Looking forward to your experience.
If you go looking for the battery, it’s under the passenger seat.! Well it is in the S
Way better than a Range Rover, one of which I currently own.
Life’s too short, make sure you buy one at some point!
Looks awesome man! Would love one of these bad boys
So pleased you went with the Porsche rather than another L322 as youtube is saturated with those already
I'm so glad to hear you're safe from driving that front wheel drive car through the harsh and barron winters of southern England.
Lol
Ooooh, it got the Tiptronic, so I love it for sure 😜
Other than that, well maintained car!
Finally one for you Mr Tiptronic!
Totally agree
Nice one mate! I'm just searching for a new daily and have been between 957 S or GTS, and 958.1 S. I'm planning a overland build, and most likely will go for a 958!
Go for it!
Congratulations!!
Mine is the same color, 2006 3.2 V6.
I also wants to update the OEM radio with a new one like yours.
Do you know what brand is it?
Regards.
Porsche badge on wheel held up amazingly. Like new. If from when built.
Very nice,so new adjustable coilovers a professional machine polish and that will change that will improve it greatly
The intro 😂😂😂 Nicely done haha been looking forward to this!!
Glad you enjoyed!
I had exactly those same marks on my old car. Also silver. Definitely from driving down a prickly bush lane or driveway. You can get it out easily enough with a wet sanding if it’s not too deep. Cheap enough to wet sand and re lacquer it too
Yes I thought it must be a hedge row near a driveway or something. Looks like the rear passenger door has been resprayed/replaced at some point
Nice motor Joel. Good price and good spec. Well done.
Thanks 👍
Looks great Joel, and for that price it’s a steal, good luck with it and love the content, look forward to the next instalment 😃
Welcome to the 955 club 💰 👋🏻 Amazing cars. Mine is the 4.5 V8 S.
Glad you got what you wanted joel you will have more piece of mind after a front to back inspection hope it goes well for you joel and look forward to an update on it and videos of a few road trips with it 😀 👍
Thanks 👍
Wrote off my 2006 RR sport last week. A jaguar driver , I was looking to replace the RR sport with a Vogue now I'm looking at Cayennes on the road
Always liked how these look especially the rear lights
Yep. The rear lights are my favourite part, I love them and that’s why I didn’t want a facelift. Can’t explain why though!
I would of gone for a l322 4.2 supercharged with Black interior which in my opinion is the best colour!
Nice - ive had both, 955 Twin Turbos and L322’s , cannot beat the L322. Night and day difference, each to their own i guess, lovely car - enjoy
I hope that you have lots of fun and trouble free motoring.
julianadams2206
And those quad exhaust should be quite cheap to replace also.
Agree. Quad exhausts look so mean. I would go far as saying the early cayennes look beautiful now. Certainly wouldn’t have said that even 5 years ago!
Exciting to see what comes of thr Cayenne. An off road adventure would be cool!
Sounds great! Very like my mk5 R32.
Oh and the after market system is a good thing, original system was useless and still thought Winchester was the capital city....
