Man, I love this song. It's not the first Stranglers song I listened to but it's the one that really got under my skin and sold them to me. Loved Andy's reaction to this and he got the whole punk/pop crossover part spot on. JJ's bass though... lovely.

Don’t know if you realised, neither of you mentioned it, that “bouncing ball” intro was done on the bass.

Try anything, if not everything, from the Rattus Norvegicus album - their first and a real surprise at the time

Stranglers are up to now one of my favorite bands ever. I love especially their first three studio albums plus the live one "X-cert". As you mentioned, i love the bass playing and the genius keyboard work of Dave Greenfield, too.
"Peaches" and "Princess of the streets" from the first one are worth the listening.

There’s a band from that era called the X-Certs. Is that some kind of slang? Can you illuminate me?

    Their best song is.
"Will you just take a look over there.
    (Where?)
    There.
Is she tryin to get out of that Clit ares"
And Andy would obviously love the Bass.

This track is probably my favourite, it has been my ringtone and always gets a nod of approval when it goes off. Nice n Sleazy is a close second though.
Next up should be Down In The Sewer :)

Hi Audiophiles, I've been viewing for 12months and I must say you the closest to a John Peel Show on TH-cam, as a request how about "Unburden"off Shrinkwrap by the Gang of Four or To He'll With Poverty?

I agree that this channel is the closest to John Peel on TH-cam. Anyone from Britain will who lived through the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s and wanted to hear stuff that you would never hear on mainstream radio will understand exactly what I mean.

This is a classic from my youth. Awesome tune. You heard the Violet Femmes version.... minus the keyboards? It was in a film, which I can't remember the name of at the moment.

Mr. Bass Man, you've got that certain somethin', Mr. Bass Man, you set that music thumpin'.
We Didn’t Start the Fire, but with menace. I've always enjoyed that mad Manzarek-inspired organ. I too lost interest about the time of Golden Brown.

The Stranglers' publishers threatened Elastica with court action in 1995, over the use of the main riff of this song, on their single "Waking up." Elastica finally settled out of court.

bit of useless trivia....at the end of every episode of the brilliant Kermode and Mayo movie podcast they give thanks to, amongst others, The Great Omera and Sancho Panza.
