- Dozer work in wet conditions isn’t ideal but it’s a race against the clock. We have never bogged both dozers at the same time before and hopefully never again!

I’ve run D11 dozer for 15years in coal mining. Try lifting yourself up by lowering your blade and ripper then turn your tracks to clean them out and lower yourself gently back down and slowly back out. This works if your not too buried like in your situation. Cheers!
I was going to say exactly the same thing, but I think a stock pile is vastly different to boggy mud. I know we can get out of tricky situations, but I think these blokes have some idea..
The ripper frame usually buries in the soft material, in my experience. If there is no base to get down to... you’re in trouble. Ive used your method and had success in the past but it doesn’t always work. Usually doesn’t work when you desperately need to to work... like when you’re extremely low on fuel and the fuel truck can’t get to your location. 😂

Wow!! That was a lot of horse power ... two tractors AND a dozer (not a D11) ... the two tow tractors dragged the dozer sideways to get it in line!! Power of mud suction is amazing. Great video!!

I learned a long time ago, never send in your biggest tractor first. Always sacrifice the smallest first.

Funnily enough the first person we called was the local heavy towing bloke, he had a couple trucks that have 100t winches and spikes that go into the ground. But he was in a different state 😂

One of Letsdig18's most watched videos was of him rescuing a middling sized excavator that was sunk past the cab in deep mud while dredging a pond. My dad used to work as a fitter and turner out in the mines in North Queensland, He was telling me about a D9 or 11 can't remember which that got bogged and threw a track. They had to did it out by hand, and redo the track thanks to not wanting a second bogged dozer. They had finally got it all done and the problem was a foot thick line for pumping water got kocked while the dozer was preparing to drive out. The pump got stopped and the water in the line came out and bogged the D9/11 again. It promptly threw another track in worse conditions and had to be dug out by hand again. A 24 hr job turned into nearly a week. Mine bosses not happy due to stopage.

WOWZERS! I do believe that's the most heavy equipment I've ever seen stuck in one work site before.
I worked with a bloke called Ben Homann who used to have the Cat dealership at Dalby on the Darling Downs, Queensland. He said that the black soil out on the Downs would almost act like a lubricant whereas where I was working with him down on the coast the sand obviously acted like an abrasive. Hence why he would say that track and running gear on the Downs would last 10 or more times longer than down on the coast.
Thanks goodness they both came out relatively easy but then you guys certainly had some decent equipment to facilitate that! The ONLY way this could have been worse is if one of the CAT operators screwed around enough trying to get out of the mud that he threw a track, Thats gives a sinking feeling even saying it!

There is no worse feeling than when you feel the bottom giving way to your tracks....especially if you don't have anything big enough to rescue you.

Well glad you have good moisture for your crops and it looks like it can be a challenge when those big brutes find that soft spot .
Yep, the floods created challenges but at least we have moisture in the ground😁👍

The tread looked like it wanted to lift off it's base when pulling. Most amazing that you pulled it out with those three. Nice drone footage. It's like you need to go in with a excavator first, or a wide track smaller dozer to feel ahead so to speak. But you have the big rigs. Yes always a job to pull stick equipment out of stuck muck. It's like walking ahead and hitting quick sand.
Was gonna suggest a new drinking game where everytime he said (YEAH) you had to take a shot, but after 6 minutes your liver would fall out your arse.
I love a good stuck, there's always the point when you think to yourself "I'm never getting out". I haven't left a vehicle behind yet.

Good recovery mate. Bit of a heads up. You've got a drone so maybe use it for a recce, the greener the growth over country like that the wetter it is. I spent years in the Northern territory bogging and recovering heavy gear. Even in the dry season country like that holds a pile of moisture.
Thats black soil, in new south wales, its the most notorius for bogging in.... And it doesnt matter whether the grass green or brown... lol.

All fun and games mate, we had a grader bogged tried to pull it out with a D9 got bogged, tried pulling the 9 out the a 275 ax that got bogged as well, tried to pull the komatsu out with a d11 got that bogged, tried to pull it out with another d11, we eventually got them out a week later with a 9 we brought in for one our other blocks, even then it took alot of pulling and then reajusting. What a shit show it was😂😂

I’ve never been around an 11. Worked on a lot of 10s and a few 9s. They stuck a 10 pretty good one time and it just kept raining. That thing sat there for three weeks until it dried out enough to do anything with it.

Great video,thanks,D11s are a huge machine,I've seen them being built in the factory but the tracks always seem a bit narrow to me especially with that heavy blade pulling down on the front.Just an observation,Cat must know what they are doing.Cheers from UK.
Not sure if the big cats have LGP track option? Don’t think I’ve seen it on a D11.
Guess that's why lgp rigs only go up to D 6. Sheer weight. See you're running narrow tracks. Good for rocky conditions. Ran into a layer of soil/water/impermeable clay.(usually grey) Ground pumps and its over for awhile. You can see it roll in front of you as you work it. Once you break through, it is all over.

Y'all need what we call SWAMP pads on your tracks. I pulled a D8 and a D9 out of the mud with a D5 that had the wide swamp tracks. Low ground bearing pressure is the trick.Now being as heavy as the D11's are the little D5 might not have done the job like it did on the 8 and 9 I pulled out.

Just looking at that road you could see it was a bad idea for those machines lol. Seen this a few times even had one that had to be left till the dry season before it could be dug back out. Only took 6 months.

Unless I am mistaken the grousers on both tractors look to be worn down to the point you will have no traction when you really need it.
Grousers on second dozer are worn and are currently having new lugs welded on. Grousers on first dozer are about 60%
There appeared to be no obtainable bottom in some of those spots. I assume the job that this road was leading to, had been contracted, but that blue clay takes forever to dry and is very risky for any machine, much less very high dollar machines, like these. You were blessed to have the means of getting them out, and without major problems.

Well, it helps getting unbogged when you have equipment available with serious pulling power. Other than carrying lots of sturdy railway sleepers and laying them out at close spacings perpendicular to the direction you want to go covering the side where extra support is needed, or both sides of the road, or track to spread the load if both sides are too boggy, an excavator might be the best option for placing such sleepers etc.
There is othervise little that can be done, except wait to things dry out without turning the road bog-issue into a major job which would entail digging the boggy material out to perhaps one, two or more meters deepth progressively, - with a 20 ton or larger excavator, or, depending on the situation, if the mud is no more than a meter deep, perhaps a large loader, Cat 988 or 992 and then backfilling with crushed rock or coarse crushed concrete. - Not a job for anyone short of resources, because that could be a costly project, - and really only possible if suitable rocky material etc was available within a reasonably distance.
I had a small boggy section on my road, dug it out about three feet deep and about fifty feet long, cost $ 500-00 for crushed rock to back-fill it, and that was just for only a six foot wide section on one side of the road, but it fixed the problem.
For big jobs like fixing the boggy roads shown in this video, improving drainage in the worst places might be an option, either on its own, or in cunjunction with the method previously suggested.👍

Haha. Lucky. A mate once buried a D9 to the belly in the north west. Took 3 weeks to dig it out with a shovel.

Hey fellas, excellent work on the recoveries! I do not know if they are available at the ratings that would benefit you all but yankum ropes could be a worthy addition to your toolboxes. Also, take a look for the "Swedish tractor extraction method" here on TH-cam, it could be a handy technique to keep in mind if you can source the materials where you are stuck.
Thanks Alan, the biggest rope yankum do is 100ton which in most cases would be fine but at its limit. The inertia straps we use are also 100t but a lot cheaper, they also roll up nicer as they are flat👍 the big 350t sling we use sometimes is a lot cheaper too. In saying that we would still love to try a yankum rope😁

Always sink equipment to the axle when you get in mud. Wouldn't want it to be easy to pull out

rule 1: when you know you are going to be stuck---stop---let your ego go and get towed out. Dont try to get out once you've crossed that certain point that every decent operator knows.
Exactly, it doesn’t look like it but the really stuck dozer sunk to where it was in the video, we didn’t even try move that one👍
I’ve seen boged tractors and they just pull it out with a bigger machine, but what do you do when that happens, I mean a D11 is a massive machine

Not bad I’ve seen worse but it was at the coal mine they had two d11s sunk almost to the top of the tracks they hung up one then sank the second trying to get the first one out ended up digging them out with the big trax excavator they was in a grey mud that you couldn’t walk on
I guess that can be a problem with farm roads. Uneven compaction. You wouldn't often get 100 ton machines tracking over it.
Un sheeted roads can be a hazard . . they may cross old drainage channels etc of soft mush
If living out in the sticks it pays on your property to sheet the lower lying tracks with coarse material . . usual found on the higher points

lol we're lookijng at anchor point stuff to help fix things with a hololens, Sweet on just how it starts up. Your's is way better than what we started at, with the lab.It's really cool imo and how we'd do it better. I'm not anchual on a dev deam, but I'm on a dev team where we use iit. I want all the stuff where it's at, just a brikch where the lifthing strap would be, just there.
Thank you for the video. That soil appears to full of clay, and not much drainage. Do you plan on filling the ruts with boney gravel, or avoid those soft areas?
Thanks jack, this was at a neighbour’s place and usually it isn’t a problem but we had had flooding a few weeks prior so things were a bit unpredictable👍😁 not sure of exact soil type

I have never seen a double-wheeled tractor like your new holland get stuck like that, but we have bogy (swamps) ground is the norm here in Devon UK, is there a rock basin or something under the soil, maybe a buried river bed...
Did u try lifting the blade putting all the wood you could find under i use old rail road track to then push down lifting the track then throw stuff under track repeat till its up above ground

the instructor at a mine safty class I went to shared a story about a man pushing up "gob"the stuff they have left over after washing out coal...the ground was wet and it basicly "floated"the gob made it into quick sand,the man and the dozer dropped over 400' in that crap,they never recovered his body...

Sometimes you have to take a smaller dozer and dig out around it and sometimes it makes short easier work
With D11 as tools of the day, you need at least 3 of them. One for spare parts.
