- Hi everybody, and welcome to my "stevenofpa" TH-cam Channel!
This video shows you what it's like to see this old fan that was thrown out, and see it SO COMPLETELY CHOCK FULL OF NASTY DUST AND DIRT AND DEBRIS, and then you can see it be blown out with an air chuck, and dust put in the garbage can, and then vacuumed, and cleaned with 409 spray cleaner, and wiped down with paper towels. Also there is diagnosis of as to why the fan motor will only operate in on low speed, and not work on medium or high speed? It may be a fan speed control module or a fan motor starter module that is not allowing it to come up to speed, perhaps due to overheating due to the massive dust problem?
So that's what we think anyway.
We think that since no one took care of this fan, and neglected to perform maintenance (basically, to clean it out periodically), that the fan got so clogged up with dust, that the fan motor started to overheat, and internal components failed, which would not allow the motor to go any faster than about low speed. This stinks! A simple cleaning, which only takes a few minutes each YEAR, would have saved this fan and all of its materials from being thrown into a landfill. Wow! Some people are so wasteful, and they should learn how to not be.

Im 67 and I did it omg thanks a lil canned air and i didn't have oil used cooking spray but it worked
My dad has had one of these for over 10 years. Every time I go visit, I use it to sleep. Best fan ever. I’m buying me one. Hopefully they still make them as good as they used to.
Good luck. Had a friend give me one. It was the best fan id ever had. It went out on me and i bought another one some time later. The wind from the same brand and newer fan was significantly less leaving me disappointed smh.
They still make them bought 2 in 2017, one was told it couldn't be saved wish I saw this before pitching it, they go from $50.00 to $80.00 now, so excited to see if the one im working on will go back together, it now will turn😂😂😂
Good video. I wouldn't let it get that bad again, very high fire risk!
I like how detailed you were and showing stuff and looking at them 😍
EXCELLENT PRESENTATION, I was ABLE to use the INFO and FIX MY FAN - THANK YOU !
Great video. Didn't go as far as you did, pretty close. Running Great! Saving. Thank you. Not too bad for 65!😊
Thanks, glad you liked the video. Thanks for watching!
Lol this looks just like my sons fan. I was in his room the other night and couldn't believe how dirty it got. Same issue too. Stuck on low speed. The good thing is I just bought another one brand new for 28 bucks. In a month I can get his ass in gear to take it apart and clean it properly so I dont have to keep buying a fan. If he dont keep up with it he can buy his own fan or sweat it nuts off. Great video thanks!
The scratchy sounds as you were taking the screws out…hilarious. Like mice trying to burrow into my BRAIN!😂
Thank you so much it helps lots . I appreciate it.
You likely diagnosed the correct part (the gray box) however it is a capacitor - not a speed controller. It could also be the rotary switch, which is mechanical. The capacitor is part of the permanently split capacitor motor. There are three speed windings in the motor which are controlled by a mechanical switch. There are no circuit boards. Test the capacitor and it may be lower than the rating it has in uF. The motor will likely not be able to work because you destroyed the windings because you did not feed the four wires through the hole. This caused the overheated crusty zip ties to break and the windings became disconnected.
How did you get your fan blade off
Thanks for doing this video. It helped me a lot. Thanks 😊
I don't have time to do all that. I'll buy a new one lol.
Mine started to squeak out of nowhere, but not all the time. Wasn't really dirty either.
i took mine apart, no problem. Then removed the motor from the fan to clean everything good. Don't know where i could put lubrication.
Do you think i should take apart the motor like you did and lube that middle metal part you removed?
Great video, i have the same problem, working on it ✌
I took the motor apart on my fan like in this video, cleaned and lubricated it, and reassembled it. No broken wires. Now instead of spinning, the armature just seizes from magnetism and the motor makes a buzzing noise. I can barely budge the shaft with pliers. The armature spins freely with no power! Any ideas anyone???
Hi, I hope that you can help me I too have a fan like the one you worked on, but I problem is that the wire on that small black switch broke. I can solder it, but i don't know how to take it apart . and also how would I order a new one if need be. thank you for your great video!!!
It is a hee kvility prodooct. had a lot of hairs and dust inside of it took them out and replaced teh oil with mosin nagant oil.
where you were pulling to take the blade off?
I pulled against the metal frame and didn't even need to use a screwdriver as a lever; my hands worked fine.
That thing looks brand new too just full of fur and dust
Do you still have this fan?
Thank you sooooo much , very informative video
Glad it was helpful!
Great video! I was just today trying to figure out how to do this! Took me 10 mins with my newest electric screwdriver! Thank you thank you!
I Bought a Lusko Fan I Bought in August 2003 at a Local Walmart and it still Works Fine, however the Ouside Body is Falling Apart Plastic not Wires or anything like that okay anyway the Stan That you Attach to the Fan to Adjust what and where you want the Fan Direction where you want to Wind to Aim on the Fan itself that you Screw on Part of that Broke off so I cannot Put the Stand on is well meaning will Not Tighten is Well should I Replace the Lusko Windmachine Fan Through out Windmachine Fan and Buy a New Lusko Machine at Walmart what would you RECCOMMEND its Close to 20 Years Old and Due to Safty Procaution?????
Please let me know what your opinion is!!!!
great disassembly you cleaned but didnt fix
I took my apart just like this, vacuumed everything out of it, and it didn't work. So I got really mad and Kyle punched it and now it works like new.
Did you get it fixed? If so what did you replace?
I can't figure out what you did?. Mine doesn't work at all, on any speed!
Any way to repair the power cord that goes into the switch? One of the wires came out of one end
The black wire is off. Dont know where it's supposed to go. How can I put it back
Thanks. This help
No problem! Glad it helped!
Cleaned mine today. I didnt know how t take off the fan. It pulls right off without the Flathead 🪛
That hole in the blade is to be able to pull the blade off
Thank you for sharing your knowledge with everybody, i got to fixed mine thanks to you, greetings from mexico :D
Gracias, but ony want to clean
Mine just died it’s was working for 4 years
Please closed captioning
Ok...so, what was the problem. You left us hanging.
He showed in the video there were some ends of plastic zipties that got stuck and burnt up in the motor
He blamed it on zip ties but I bet the cooling on the motor got clogged up with crap and the motor over heated aka burnt up.
My aunt does the same thing to them at least once a year with dog hair. She has a mix golden retriever and lab.
I caught it in time to fix it, but my fan did the same. Hair caught in the motor, making the fan stop spinning and junk stuck inside The motor. Oof
Only a man would clean one side of the fan..lol
