Few male singers in history have had more bras and panties thrown at them on stage during a live performance by adoring female fans in the audience. Tom Jones was part of the "British Invasion" of the 1960s. This song and "It's Not Unusual" were his first two hits in America (1965). He is still going strong today as one of the judges on the UK's version of "The Voice," and can still knock it out of the park with his voice. Check out these songs by Tom: "She's A Lady," "Help Yourself," "Delilah," "Green Green Grass of Home," and the one most of the reaction channels have done, "I'll Never Fall In Love Again."

This was the theme song for a movie called What's New Pussycat, about a guy with so many girls he can't remember their names and calls them all "Pussycat". I think it is as much about the body part as the girl. Tom Jones was and still is one of those people who get panties thrown to them on stage. You saw the crowd reaction?
Tom Jones was THE "crooner" of the 60's and early 70's. Not a rocker, but definitely a pop star who had many, many female fans. What's impressive is in the "rock/soul" era, he had several hit songs that made it on Top 40 radio and are still played today on oldies radio. Although they couldn't by more dissimilar, he was friends with John Lennon.
Maybe a lot of Tom Jones' early hits were pop tunes and both gentle and power ballads, but don't label Tom a "crooner." He can and has done all kind of genres, including pop, R&B, rock, jazz, blues, folk, country, reggae, rap, gospel. funk, dance, trance, movie theme songs like "...Pussycat" and the title song to the James Bond movie "Thunderball," and more. He loves all kinds of music. Tom has so much soul and passion and swag, plus superb control over that incredible, powerful voice of his. And he has rocked with some of the best... Jerry Lee Lewis, Dusty Springfield, Little Richard, Janis Joplin, CSN&Y, Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett.. and others. You should hear him with Aussie favorite son John Farnham doing AC/DC's "It's A Long Way To The Top [If You Want To Rock And Roll]. Absolute Fire! No matter if Tom is singing alone or singing with someone else, he brings it! He still does at age 82. Gotta love that 1960's innuendo! Reminds me of a scene in The Yellow Submarine where a police officer stops to try to pet a cat and says something like, "Here Pussycat, here puss; puss, puss, pussy." Then there is the femme fatale from the James Bond movie Goldfinger, who had the delicious name Pussy Galore. Man, it's funny what people could get away with before PC culture came along and spoiled the fun for everyone. Or at least for the men.
most TV shows began broadcasting in color in fall of 1965. This performance was from 1969 I believe when Tom Jones had his own series from 1969 to 1971. The song was a hit and used in a movie that was Woody Allen's first screenplay in 1965. Back in those days they used a lot of double entendre. A figure of speech in which a word or phrase can be understood in two ways, especially when one meaning is risqué. To children he's singing about a cat. To adults he's singing a love song to a woman and/or he's singing about a girl's hoo ha.
I don't know if this song is really about a "girl's hoo ha"....it was written by Burt Bacharach and he really had no history of sexual innuendos in his lyrics......interesting perspective, though!
My mom & grandmother went to see Tom Jones with front row seats back in the early 70s. He kissed their hands & tried in my mom's floppy hippie hat. Consumate showman. Still out there doing concerts & gigs too!
Tom Jones was knighted by the Queen of England, so his official title is Sir Tom Jones. Still belting them out at 82, there are 3 must-see live performances from his TV show: Treat Her Right, a duo with Janis Joplin- Raise Your Hand, and with Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young - Long Time Gone.

It’s well know that women throw their underwear on stage when he performs. A girl told me they buy the undies new and offer them to their icon as they worship him!

This song was the title song from a film by the same name starring: Peter Sellers, Peter O'Toole, Romy Schneider, Capucine, Paula Prentiss, Woody Allen, Ursula Andress. It was a screwball comedy and quite fun. The expression "what's new pussycat?" arose in the beatnik generation (50's) and is a general query aimed by men at women. In the film, Michael (O'Toole) calls all women "Pussycat" to avoid having to remember their names.

You probably heard the song in a cat food commercial. The song is about women and pick up game. If a man chases too hard after a girl he likes she will run away. (Because he comes off as needy) But if he gives her a little bit of attention and then ignores her when she runs away and he resist the urge to chase she will come back for more attention just like a cat. Just give her a little room. 🐈⬛🐈⬛🐈⬛
This was the theme song to a comedy film. If you can find a longer version of this clip, you will see the female fans reaction to him. He sees a pair of twins in the audience & makes their day.
As much as I heard Tom Jones songs growing up in the 70's, I can't hear this or It's Not Unusual without thinking of John Mulaney now. You should look up his comedy story of this song, it's hilarious.
So, in the 60's, it was popular for the "cool guys" to use that phrase when talking to a "chick" .. "What's new Pussycat?" .... It was real "groovy" LoL! ... and no, he's not referrencing a particular part of the female anatomy 🤣..... Also, there was a movie in the 60's starring Peter Sellers (a very funny man) called "What's New Pussycat?" where the cool guy (Peter O'Toole) uses this phrase.... Seller's plays his pschoanalyst who has woman problems at the same time he's working on O'Toole, who has woman problems of his own......It's a typical chaotic mess that was extremely popular during that time period. The movie was made in 1965.
When I was a kid hearing this song, some of the innuendo was lost on me. I didn't detect that he was building up to the "lips" part of the face, which is the one that also has a counterpart elsewhere. Before Tom Jones, it would have been considered too risque, except in private quarters. One of the very first novels was called "Tom Jones: Adventures of a Foundling" or something like that. He too was a gad about town; a womanizer, bed-swerver, Casanova, Don Juan, lothario, lounge lizard, ex-president.
That frantic arm motion is meant -- in spite of the fact that there is a bandleader conducting -- to be ABSOLUTELY sure the band is in sync with his tempo.
This might sound familiar to you Brad if you've ever come across Wyclef Jean's "Pussycat", released back in 2002 and samples "What's New Pussycat?" along with featuring Tom on the song as well. It apparently only charted in Australia, but I'm not from there and the music video played frequently enough around my neck of the woods for me to know about it lol.

Play the song which becomes 1st reaction. Check reaction of listeners/viewers. Re: What's New Pussycat? Just listened to it. From a movie of same name. Starring Peter O'TOOLE, Peter Sellers. Screenplay by Woody Allen. The Doors! Arguably the most non-linear band of the '60's. No bass player. Ray Manzarek played keyboards. Had an electronic device that he played left-handed for bass effect. Dunmore, drummer, was jazz trained. Krieger guitarist was trained in flamenco, ergo, he could play lead and rhythm simultaneously. What a band!!! Keep up the good work.

This is a song they love to use in movies and commercials. It pops up quite a bit so I'm sure you have heard bits of it before.
He usually had some very suggestive hip movements when he performed this. This was his tv show that ran from 69-71.
I literally bumped into Tom outside a hotel in Glasgow a few years ago, he's a big guy like his bodyguard who was not pleased with me!
lol. Thats funny yet sad.
Now you should watch the film; What's New Pussycat.!! Hilarious fun!!!
An incredibly charismatic singer is Tom Jones. He controls the whole stage. He’s not
randomly swinging his arm. If you notice, it’s to the beat of the orchestra. Ladies man!
It’s well know that women throw their underwear on stage when he performs. A girl
told me they buy the undies new and offer them to their icon as they worship him!
Tom Jones had a TV show for a while and one of the perks of having your own show for Tom was getting to sing duets with your musical guests. Do a TH-cam search sometime for "Tom Jones and..." and you will be pleasantly surprised.
Theme for the 1965 movie "WHAT'S NEW PUSSYCAT" staring Woody Allen and Peter Sellers.Sellers. He also sang the theme for James Bond " THUNDERBOLT "
Minor correction: The James Bond film was called "Thunderball."
I know , this was a spellcheck error. I didn't catch it. So be blessed and thank you. 🖖🏾
@@victorcowboywest TH-cam Autocheck haunts us all. That and the plagues of the tiny keyboard and tiny edit window on smartphones.
This was the themesong to a movie of the same name around 1965ish. Tom sang that title song. There was an expression back in the day that evolved from the hippie movement. Guys when running into a woman they knew or meeting a new woman would ask What's New Pussycat. Lots of stars in the movie and a more stars singing the songs used in it.
This was the title song from a screwball comedy film in the 1960s with the brilliant Peter Sellers, Peter O'Toole and a host of beauties such as Romy Schneider, Capucine, Paula Prentiss, and Ursula Andress - the very first Bond girl!
Allegedly, back in the swingin' 60's actor Warren Beatty used to greet chix, like Julie Christie in Hollywood with "What's new, pussycat?"
Wikipedia easy lookup: although I heard this constantly on the radio when it was new in August/September of 1965....What's New Pussycat? is a 1965 screwball comedy film directed by Clive Donner, written by Woody Allen in his first produced screenplay, and starring Allen in his acting debut, along with Peter Sellers, Peter O'Toole, Romy Schneider, Capucine, Paula Prentiss, and Ursula Andress.
The Oscar-nominated title song by Burt Bacharach (music) and Hal David (lyrics) is sung by Tom Jones. The film poster was painted by Frank Frazetta, and the animated title sequence was directed by Richard Williams.

John Mulaney plays "what's new pussycat?" 21 times on a diner jukebox
From a film with Peter O'Toole , who plays a playboy who all the girls love. Great Movie. And he wasn't snapping he was counting beats . One Two Three a waltz
It's well known, that when Tom Jones did his shows in Vegas, Many women would throw their panties, Hotel room keys, and other assorted items up on stage while he was performing. That dude was getting layed every night. Women loved this guy.
He used to have a show on Sunday nights, my great grandmother loved him! When he came on, everyone had to be quiet. She's a Lady and It's not Unusual are his best.
"She's A Lady" is a another great Tom Jones song you should do an episode on.
Brad: at first I thought he was singing about a real cat…Brad, make no mistake a pussycat is a real cat in every sense of the word.
This song is from the sound track of the movie What's New Pussycat.
This song was written by Burt Bacharach & Hal David, two of the best composer/songwriters of all time.
This was written by Bacharach and David for the film of the same name. It was apparently Warren Beatty's chat up line.
My mom (God rest her soul) loved Tom Jones.
Written by the great Burt Bacharach. Apparently, that was Warren Beatty's pickup line. Think it won an Academy Award for BB.
The guy has a voice singers today can only dream of...did you not notice?
There is a Woody Allen movie "What's New Pussycat?" starring Peter Sellers and Peter O'Toole that uses this as theme song. Movie is a hilarious 60's comedy with all the stereotypical items included.
This was the Theme song from the movie
“What’s New Pussycat” 1965.
Written by Woody Allen.
A Comedy.
📻🙂
It's from the movie of the same name. Starring Barbara Streisand and (I think) Ryan O'Neil. The two biggest stars of the seventies. Check out Streisand in "Funny Girl" with Omar Sheriff, another biggest star of the seventies, and check out Ryan O'Neil in "Love Story", another biggest movie of the seventies, with Ali McGraw. The seventies were not just about music, it was also an awesome decade for movies.
I’m a a 59 year old Black woman who has been in love with Tom Jones since I was 5 years old. He’s in his 80s and can still “sang”.

He's directing the band with his snaps and dance moves. Elvis also did that.
My mom said he was such a sex symbol- the ladies would swoon haha!
He has a few live performances like this that are fun to watch.
As much as I heard Tom Jones songs growing up in the 70's, I can't hear this or It's Not Unusual without thinking of John Mulaney now. You should look up his comedy story of this song, it's hilarious.
This song was the theme song to the film in the 60s titled "What's new pussycat" starring the actor Peter Sellers
I really enjoy your reactions , glad you enjoyed it .
I used to sing variations of this to my cats.
Love Tom Jones What A Voice ! I am a Fan
Other Tom Jones hits from my 60s childhood included Delilah and The Green, Green Grass of Home. He also appears in Mars Attacks! (as himself)
70's
That frantic arm motion is meant -- in spite of the fact that there is a bandleader conducting -- to be ABSOLUTELY sure the band is in sync with his tempo.
This might sound familiar to you Brad if you've ever come across Wyclef Jean's "Pussycat", released back in 2002 and samples "What's New Pussycat?" along with featuring Tom on the song as well. It apparently only charted in Australia, but I'm not from there and the music video played frequently enough around my neck of the woods for me to know about it lol.
Tom Jones and Janis Joplin together is a must see.
CSNY
This was the theme song in a HYSTERICAL movie of the same name :-)
Great Bacharach/David song from the sixties.
He also sang the James Bond theme song Thunderball
Love you both. You are bringing some great songs for everyoneone to hear. You know there is a "but" on the horizon. Make yourselves different from everyone else.
Can't listen to this without thinking about John mulaney.
Try It's not unusual live. Tom busts some moves in that ! 🤣🔥
The Voice
It's a very 60's song and the structure is difficult. The had snapping is him keeping time.
Fishbone and Los Fabulosos Cadillacs do a WHACKY cover of this. It's great, check it out
Tom admitted he didn't care for this song at first, but then went for it and sang it perfectly. :)
60'S
This was the theme song to the Woody Allen movie of the same name. The song was written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David.
60s, guys!
Love him
