Glad you made a video like this because it feels like 1. A lot of people aren't aware of WHY so many VAs are being replaced 2. Are being incredibly disrespectful about it. I play ENG voice acting for every game it's available on because it's easier for me to consume the story and such that way so I'm very used to the EN voice actors. In my opinion, none of the replacements are really bad in the sense that their acting job is bad but some are a tad bit unfitting or jarring especially when you're used to the voices they usually have. One example for me of a voice I just cannot get used to for some reason is the voice they gave SBS for her skin. The voice isn't bad it sounds like Scarlet but it's just that I'm so used to Ratana that it feels off. Same with Poli, she's fine but it feels off. In the end these are temporary and I believe the VAs are doing great with what they're given. Be kind to them, they're doing their best truly.

Exactly my thought. Those 2 voices are the most jarring and I hope they replace SBS skin voice because I use her often and I feel ripoff cause needed to pay 50$ for skin and had voice lines that I really don't like. I mean the writing in her lines in my opinion is bad but i feel that Ratana at least would make it more fun. On the other side some voices I really like and would want them to remain. For me new Vesti is more child like and fitting and I loved how emotional the voice for Mihara went in Wordless.
I know the whole “always side with protesting workers” thing isn’t true all the time, but with VA’s, it doesn’t seem too terribly complicated (unless they decide to go full localisers/snowbreak VA’s route). Hope all things will be resolved soon. I just wish that temps were given more directions on the characters and situation they’re in.
@@michaelhall736 It doesn't because some of the voices are in the story as well. All of Absolute appears later in the story and had temp VAs. You can't wave it off. You'll eventually have to just break the immersion and acknowledge it

@@ItsBoo. i surprisingly like vesti stand in actor i could feel like vesti could sound like that if i did not hear the OG voice actor, then you got miranda stand in while not as good as the OG i still feel gets that miranda feeling in the voice, as for poli while i wish her voice was a little bit higher it still feel like poli could sound like that way she talk, for volumes stand in i feel like she's almost close to sound like the OG voice actor just missing a little bit of flair and super loud mouth that the OG actor gave so i have little to no complaints with her, with sakura stand in i like how she sounds almost had me fooled for the OG voice actor lol so i have no problem with her so that's my two sense on the stand in voice actors.

I think it's more of an overall strike in the industry. I know Kim, he is very much into ai but he only likes using it for promo material and not nikke itself
Different VAs have different attitudes towards work when on strike. Some will work under a pseudonym, some will only work with small companies, some will 100% adhere to the strike.

No drama in this. A game wont wait for a VA to stop protesting. The VA made the choice to lose the role. If they are offered the position back thats cool of Shiftup. But I dont blame them moving forward.
Agree to disagree. When players enjoy voice actors and care about their portrayal. But don't care about the people who give them life then that's apart of the problem. I agree. No drama in this. Respect voice actors and the people who make the characters people love and not think of them as nothing because that is truly sad to think that way 👍
It's a shame that we don't have the original voices for a lot of characters but I understand why the strike is happening, I hope they'll return soon though. As for the event I've been having a pretty good time with it overall with all the little references to other games spread throughout, especially the court scene 😂
The insane person that I am, I just listen to both the JP and EN voice actors. Do that with anime to, just to see the differences and the emotion from both.
I would do JP voices full time but missing out on comments when limit breaking, moving on the map, and lines during combat is just way too much. If they would give subtitles it would be ok
there is some progress on genshin side, from what I heard at least, since other VA that was missing and now returned. The AI problem is by Agency thats why JP agency is untouched. Some eng VA are getting transferred to Furina's agency. Do note the JP VA's voiced their support to eng VA, if their agency also joins AI learning they may also so go into strike.
Miranda, Quiry, and Eunhwa are noticeable. Poli is VERY noticeable, whereas I wouldn't have actually know that Volume is different if I didn't read the patch notes. I know that the Eunhwa VA changed as well for chapters 33 and 34, and I don't know if this is a 3rd Eunhwa VA, or if it is the C33/34 VA again.

Been saying this in every video and community post of many Nikketubers that the strike is the reason this is happening I play the game in EN JP and lately I’ve been using the KOR voices i appreciate the voices and the talents we got for the mean time just wish people stop being toxic
That "weakling" just doesnt give me the same feeling when i heard her in the event. I adore Eunwha's old voice since she's the very first SSR unit when i started Nikke.
i am probably the only one who plays with the English VAs. These "new voice" actors have also been in chap 33 and 34 for the absolute squad. Everyone else I can't really tell from the OG voice actors to the replacements. It could because they aren't really voiced a lot in the main story. But for absolute since they have been showing up a lot in the last few chapters it is very jarring. hearing Emma and Eunhwa new voices sounds super wack, and so different from how the old voice actress did them. Vestie new voice actress is the only one who seems like shes trying to match the old VA voice for the character. I am hoping the old voice actress come back and redo the voice lines for at leas the main story
It is interesting to see if they will because if the old VA's come back. Will there just be a change in voice again and be jarring again? We'll have to see..
@@ItsBoo. what you got to understand is that we english players have been rocking with these voice actress since like chapter 4 or 5 all the way up to chapter 32 so for me it’s very jarring to hear brand new voices for absolute . If the old voice actress come back to do chapter 35 and 36 ect then it won’t be jarring if they replace the temp ones. But if the temp voice actress stay for a year+ then yes you will be right and it would be jarring switching actress again
Sorry for little off top but can any one recognize new VAs and if they sound familiar to other characters? I for example find that new Mihara and Poli (more way of speaking than tone) sound like VAs of Behemoth and Leviathan.
To be frank, I'm quite sad to what is going on with EN VO's because there's so much bangers amongst them and after replaying the game's story in all 3 languages, (Korean Mustang xD Jesus, he's great) I still have the biggest attachment to EN, because I'm a lore guy and when I started the game I wanted to know as much of the story as possible, so... I just go on a walk put my phone into my pocket and listen to Nikke's chapters while outside... As to favourite Voice performance's there No.1 is Michelle Marie's Anis, followed by... Stephanie Kerbis's Moran, Guilty and Sin by Brittany Lauda if I recall correctly... Hmm JESUS, Sarah Wiedenheft's Blanc is the ultimate Blanc. Other notable VO's would be whole Talentum squad with Dolla being my favourite, I think by Lisa Ortiz... Tamara Fritz both as Rapunzel and Lillyweis and lastly what comes to mind is Marissa Lenti's Nihilister and lately both of the four beasts we meet in story... EN can be amazing, and it's a shame what is happening to it right now.

I play in EN and the replacements are quite jarring for some characters. I don’t hate them but they’re just different since we spent so much time with the previous VAs. It’s like listening to a different character or some impostor. I adore the EN cast and they make the game’s stories way more enjoyable for me. I despise the weebs telling people to play in another language and completely missing the point. I do NOT want to play in a language I don’t understand if the EN is perfectly fine. I hope the Counters never get replaced cuz they are the heart and soul of NIKKE for me. At least they’re only getting temp replacements and aren’t temp muted like the HoYo games which has been a way worse of a solution. I feel like SU will get the previous VAs back to record for the Archives. They’ve added VO to unvoiced events so it’s nothing new there.
Hopefully they do! I agree people should let others enjoy what they want without forcing them to do something they don't particularly like. We'll have to see how they do it once the og cast comes back!
Thank you for bringing up that people will dismiss anything to do with the EN dub by just saying "Play the JP dub! JP better!" I think the JP and KR dubs are very good also but I prefer to use ENG because it's comfortable for me and I also generally enjoy the voices they've chosen. People automatically assume english is a horrible unwatchable choice when it really isn't. This is kinda off topic from the VAs being switched but that's something that bothers me too.

Not gonna lie, I play the game with such low volume on my phone, I hardly notice the voice acting at times. I remember Viper from the summer event being the most noticeable. But everyone else, I never knew got changed. But I know it's for the right reasons why the OGs stepped down.
I was heart broken that Viper's VA changed and I don't understand why would people send hateful comments to the VA when they don't like it. Its just sad....I do hope that whatever the strike is will be resolved somehow
As much I love English dub, I feel like English dub side always have drama issue and very bad dub translation. I rather recommend people just play Kr and Jp instead with sub.
It’s pretty clear to me that the VA is meant to be a major draw for the EN audience. The story and half year events are fully voiced and the VAs show up on the live streams. Other gacha games don’t have EN voice acting let alone voiced story and events. As such, I can understand the dilemma of not having your VAs available for the half year event where players expect it to be fully voiced, I mean they even went back to voice the first xmas event fully after its release. They’re in a position where they either release the event with no voice acting and get people pissed or change the VAs and also get people pissed. However if the VAs are striking because they don’t want to be replaced by AI what message is the company sending by replacing them all anyways just with other VAs instead? Characters aren’t just the images on screen or the lines they speak; they’re the people who draw the images, the people who write the lines and the people who voice them. And these people deserve to make a living doing this work. If their absence can be this easily noticed then it’s clear their work matters.
To be honest it's a lot of the industry. I only give Shift Up credit that they straight up say it's temporary. Meaning they want to give the cast their role once they're back. So we just gotta wait and see. It's better than other studios permanent changing roles
The characters having temporary voices and then when the strike is over, go back to the original. No one is gonna care about it afterwards. If the event sounded bad with the voice acting, people are gonna remember it sucking for that rason. It sucks having to not hear my favorite VAs voicing in this event. Especially for characters that haven't had any voiced events or appeared in the story yet. Poli and Miranda sounds so jarring to hear in this current event. They don't have that airy sound in their voice and they dropped their pitch a few notches down.
I understand disappointment for sure but I rather care about voice actors having their wishes held more than a game event being disappointing. It sucks but I can't be mad at em tbh
As someone who does use English VA I will say it is better than the Mihoyo games with characters talking and some just being silent with no voice. Cannot turn auto mode on for Honkai Star Rail.
@ItsBoo. just happened on the latest update. Seen some footage on Genshin and it has been like that for months. Some actors voice at a studio that isn't being striked so the actors can continue to work, but some cases being that the voices were recorded a while back and now they have caught up to content that hasn't been voice acted. Star Rail says they will be voiced in future updates and that it is just scheduling issues for reasons why characters aren't voiced. The good thing being that the main story this time isn't used to unlock the limited side quest that gotta get done before the next update. Though the side quest does have some voice acting with half the cast not voiced for the beginning of it. Not rushing through jus thoping they do get voiced before the end of the limited rewarda time limit.
I didn't even know anything was amiss till I heard Eunhwa. I don't listen to Miranda or Poli that often, and basically skipped the event's story till Maiden showed up, as she's the one I care about.
i feel like temporary doesnt necessarily mean that they wil re-record old dialog, which would be a shame. I also think that list is incomplete because im 99% sure that the voice of guillotine is different, and Privaty sounded off too, but maybe im just going insane now.
@@the.a.o.b It's the case of taking an interpretation you were given the first time you're recording for them vs knowing how the character is actually like. No context vs some context, basically.
I am also a JP voice only player. The EN voices tend to sound ... unfitting once one us used to the JP voices (EN Anis sounds spot on though). From what I have see from videos, the EN Maiden has a really deep voice right now. I have heard that the work relationship between game studios and English VAs, can be really rocky these days. Outside of the A.I. issues, they also seem to oppose association with lewd games.
Eh with Nikke it's not really an issue as they knew what they were signing up for. You're probably thinking about Snowbreak and that was understandable as the original goal of the game is much more different now LOL

No clue. I'd imagine it's a bit of both and not deal with public outcry if they just swapped them but I'd imagine company wise they're frustrated but eh it is what it is with this kind of thing 😅
The One that got me the most messed up is Scarlet and Vesti, The OG Eng Voice Actor for them is just brings too much to those characters for me to hear them as anyone else 😢 no hate to the new voices but hearing the change was definitely a shock for sure
Obviously as another JP voice user i feel nothing towards this change but thats also because the English voice acting scene has been a shit show for a while now so its also harder to give modern ENG dubs a try. Im playing a game that uses the anime aesthetic so when i hear it im expecting anime mannerisms, tones and onomatopoeia which sadly English voice acting can't replicate
i hate to say it but Games like this is still handle by a corporation, and i know that most corporation will do anything they can to save money and inconveniences, which might led them to use AI since its more convenient and works (not the best but decent enough). i hope shift-up wont lean in that way.

Yeah this is a really tough situation 😔 I hope it all works out and the original VAs are able to come back because I really don't like the replacement vas performance compared to the originals. Most of the new vas didn't even seem to try and match the feeling of the og actors. Like quiry and volume and eunwha especially are really completely different characters now it feels like. And I know they vas did it on short notice I'm sure but quite frankly boo the quality is really bad in my opinion to. I'm trying not to sound hateful just being honest. It really feels like shift up just threw some people in a room and didn't even describe the characters before telling them to read off some of the lines. It's hard to tell if it's shift ups lack of direction or the vas being unfamiliar with the characters or maybe rushed or maybe all three. It certainly kinda sucks because I was hoping for a drama free fun Christmas event after the second anniversary was pretty buggy and stuff

But the thing Boo is that voice acting in the west seems like so random , compared with Japan where voice acting schools are popular and voice actors/actresses are idolized… in the west that doesn’t happen … and even though I like that the voice acting exist in the west and latam, I dislike how carefree western/latam voice actors portray themselves on the industry which make them seem as if they weren’t as important as JP VA’s. Also, in Latam specially there is so much Nepotism when hiring VA’s that gives me the creeps… for that reason I always prefer the Japanese VA’s. Also… another thing I dislike about western VA’s is how bad they talk and badmouth some of the characters they voice… you would rarely see a JP VA badmouthing the character they voice act… but in the west… there is no one day that you don’t find a guy portraying a character saying bad things about his character role . 😬
Nah, in Japan, they treat them pretty bad, too. Like any Idol in Japan, they have to keep their mouths shut about anything and pretty much the company control their life's. I feel like idol culture is creepy and puts the girls on so much stress cause they can't stop working.

Since JP VA is the far vast superior option when playing games and I play only with JP voices in games from Asia, this subject is inconsecuential to me lol now I’m just licking my lips waiting for stellar blade collab and how are they going to improve the fan service in collabs to please the community also enjoying GFL2 in lvl 37 and I won’t stop I also want to see collabs on that game too I read somewhere they are going to collab with Neural Cloud from MicaTeam and Darkwinter, I hope there is tons of fan service.
@@ItsBoo. in 7 hours, also i saved the 3 dailly event vouchers a CC from the China server said we can stack 6 and is smart to save 3 until reset for Part II of the event and start with 6 vouchers, i will see if not using them now is really worth it or not, but using 6 vouchers (max 6 we can hold) for Part II of the event sounds as smart as Buying Event Attempts in Hard Modes of Nikke during events, resource wise.

If it's about the strike, no hate, but I don't have much of a compassion~ You make yourself irreplaceable, not hide behind union and provide subpar voicework, I'm not saying it's happening in Nikke, but English dub can be bad~ Japanese and Korean always handle everything professionally and they're not afraid of AI~

I mean this so kindly but Western and Eastern standards when it comes to fields like voice acting, animation, anything in a generally artistic field are incredibly poor. It's not that they're "hiding behind unions" or providing subpar work, it's that western businesses have absolutely no shame in replacing humans and sacrificing actual quality for the sake of saving some money. Hence why they're striking due to being against AI and the like.

I would do JP voices full time but missing out on comments when limit breaking, moving on the map, and lines during combat is just way too much. If they would give subtitles it would be ok
there is some progress on genshin side, from what I heard at least, since other VA that was missing and now returned. The AI problem is by Agency thats why JP agency is untouched. Some eng VA are getting transferred to Furina's agency.
Do note the JP VA's voiced their support to eng VA, if their agency also joins AI learning they may also so go into strike.

Miranda, Quiry, and Eunhwa are noticeable. Poli is VERY noticeable, whereas I wouldn't have actually know that Volume is different if I didn't read the patch notes. I know that the Eunhwa VA changed as well for chapters 33 and 34, and I don't know if this is a 3rd Eunhwa VA, or if it is the C33/34 VA again.

i am probably the only one who plays with the English VAs. These "new voice" actors have also been in chap 33 and 34 for the absolute squad. Everyone else I can't really tell from the OG voice actors to the replacements. It could because they aren't really voiced a lot in the main story. But for absolute since they have been showing up a lot in the last few chapters it is very jarring. hearing Emma and Eunhwa new voices sounds super wack, and so different from how the old voice actress did them. Vestie new voice actress is the only one who seems like shes trying to match the old VA voice for the character. I am hoping the old voice actress come back and redo the voice lines for at leas the main story
It is interesting to see if they will because if the old VA's come back. Will there just be a change in voice again and be jarring again? We'll have to see..
@@ItsBoo. what you got to understand is that we english players have been rocking with these voice actress since like chapter 4 or 5 all the way up to chapter 32 so for me it’s very jarring to hear brand new voices for absolute . If the old voice actress come back to do chapter 35 and 36 ect then it won’t be jarring if they replace the temp ones. But if the temp voice actress stay for a year+ then yes you will be right and it would be jarring switching actress again

To be frank, I'm quite sad to what is going on with EN VO's because there's so much bangers amongst them and after replaying the game's story in all 3 languages, (Korean Mustang xD Jesus, he's great) I still have the biggest attachment to EN, because I'm a lore guy and when I started the game I wanted to know as much of the story as possible, so... I just go on a walk put my phone into my pocket and listen to Nikke's chapters while outside... As to favourite Voice performance's there No.1 is Michelle Marie's Anis, followed by... Stephanie Kerbis's Moran, Guilty and Sin by Brittany Lauda if I recall correctly... Hmm JESUS, Sarah Wiedenheft's Blanc is the ultimate Blanc. Other notable VO's would be whole Talentum squad with Dolla being my favourite, I think by Lisa Ortiz... Tamara Fritz both as Rapunzel and Lillyweis and lastly what comes to mind is Marissa Lenti's Nihilister and lately both of the four beasts we meet in story... EN can be amazing, and it's a shame what is happening to it right now.

I play in EN and the replacements are quite jarring for some characters. I don’t hate them but they’re just different since we spent so much time with the previous VAs. It’s like listening to a different character or some impostor. I adore the EN cast and they make the game’s stories way more enjoyable for me. I despise the weebs telling people to play in another language and completely missing the point. I do NOT want to play in a language I don’t understand if the EN is perfectly fine. I hope the Counters never get replaced cuz they are the heart and soul of NIKKE for me. At least they’re only getting temp replacements and aren’t temp muted like the HoYo games which has been a way worse of a solution. I feel like SU will get the previous VAs back to record for the Archives. They’ve added VO to unvoiced events so it’s nothing new there.
Hopefully they do! I agree people should let others enjoy what they want without forcing them to do something they don't particularly like. We'll have to see how they do it once the og cast comes back!
Thank you for bringing up that people will dismiss anything to do with the EN dub by just saying "Play the JP dub! JP better!" I think the JP and KR dubs are very good also but I prefer to use ENG because it's comfortable for me and I also generally enjoy the voices they've chosen. People automatically assume english is a horrible unwatchable choice when it really isn't. This is kinda off topic from the VAs being switched but that's something that bothers me too.

Not gonna lie, I play the game with such low volume on my phone, I hardly notice the voice acting at times. I remember Viper from the summer event being the most noticeable. But everyone else, I never knew got changed. But I know it's for the right reasons why the OGs stepped down.

As much I love English dub, I feel like English dub side always have drama issue and very bad dub translation. I rather recommend people just play Kr and Jp instead with sub.

It’s pretty clear to me that the VA is meant to be a major draw for the EN audience. The story and half year events are fully voiced and the VAs show up on the live streams. Other gacha games don’t have EN voice acting let alone voiced story and events.
As such, I can understand the dilemma of not having your VAs available for the half year event where players expect it to be fully voiced, I mean they even went back to voice the first xmas event fully after its release. They’re in a position where they either release the event with no voice acting and get people pissed or change the VAs and also get people pissed. However if the VAs are striking because they don’t want to be replaced by AI what message is the company sending by replacing them all anyways just with other VAs instead?
Characters aren’t just the images on screen or the lines they speak; they’re the people who draw the images, the people who write the lines and the people who voice them. And these people deserve to make a living doing this work. If their absence can be this easily noticed then it’s clear their work matters.

To be honest it's a lot of the industry. I only give Shift Up credit that they straight up say it's temporary. Meaning they want to give the cast their role once they're back. So we just gotta wait and see. It's better than other studios permanent changing roles
The characters having temporary voices and then when the strike is over, go back to the original. No one is gonna care about it afterwards. If the event sounded bad with the voice acting, people are gonna remember it sucking for that rason. It sucks having to not hear my favorite VAs voicing in this event. Especially for characters that haven't had any voiced events or appeared in the story yet.
Poli and Miranda sounds so jarring to hear in this current event. They don't have that airy sound in their voice and they dropped their pitch a few notches down.
I understand disappointment for sure but I rather care about voice actors having their wishes held more than a game event being disappointing. It sucks but I can't be mad at em tbh

As someone who does use English VA I will say it is better than the Mihoyo games with characters talking and some just being silent with no voice. Cannot turn auto mode on for Honkai Star Rail.

@ItsBoo. just happened on the latest update. Seen some footage on Genshin and it has been like that for months. Some actors voice at a studio that isn't being striked so the actors can continue to work, but some cases being that the voices were recorded a while back and now they have caught up to content that hasn't been voice acted. Star Rail says they will be voiced in future updates and that it is just scheduling issues for reasons why characters aren't voiced. The good thing being that the main story this time isn't used to unlock the limited side quest that gotta get done before the next update. Though the side quest does have some voice acting with half the cast not voiced for the beginning of it. Not rushing through jus thoping they do get voiced before the end of the limited rewarda time limit.

I don't listen to Miranda or Poli that often, and basically skipped the event's story till Maiden showed up, as she's the one I care about.

I am also a JP voice only player. The EN voices tend to sound ... unfitting once one us used to the JP voices (EN Anis sounds spot on though). From what I have see from videos, the EN Maiden has a really deep voice right now.
I have heard that the work relationship between game studios and English VAs, can be really rocky these days. Outside of the A.I. issues, they also seem to oppose association with lewd games.
Eh with Nikke it's not really an issue as they knew what they were signing up for. You're probably thinking about Snowbreak and that was understandable as the original goal of the game is much more different now LOL

The One that got me the most messed up is Scarlet and Vesti, The OG Eng Voice Actor for them is just brings too much to those characters for me to hear them as anyone else 😢 no hate to the new voices but hearing the change was definitely a shock for sure

Obviously as another JP voice user i feel nothing towards this change but thats also because the English voice acting scene has been a shit show for a while now so its also harder to give modern ENG dubs a try. Im playing a game that uses the anime aesthetic so when i hear it im expecting anime mannerisms, tones and onomatopoeia which sadly English voice acting can't replicate

Yeah this is a really tough situation 😔 I hope it all works out and the original VAs are able to come back because I really don't like the replacement vas performance compared to the originals. Most of the new vas didn't even seem to try and match the feeling of the og actors. Like quiry and volume and eunwha especially are really completely different characters now it feels like. And I know they vas did it on short notice I'm sure but quite frankly boo the quality is really bad in my opinion to. I'm trying not to sound hateful just being honest. It really feels like shift up just threw some people in a room and didn't even describe the characters before telling them to read off some of the lines. It's hard to tell if it's shift ups lack of direction or the vas being unfamiliar with the characters or maybe rushed or maybe all three. It certainly kinda sucks because I was hoping for a drama free fun Christmas event after the second anniversary was pretty buggy and stuff

But the thing Boo is that voice acting in the west seems like so random , compared with Japan where voice acting schools are popular and voice actors/actresses are idolized… in the west that doesn’t happen … and even though I like that the voice acting exist in the west and latam, I dislike how carefree western/latam voice actors portray themselves on the industry which make them seem as if they weren’t as important as JP VA’s. Also, in Latam specially there is so much Nepotism when hiring VA’s that gives me the creeps… for that reason I always prefer the Japanese VA’s. Also… another thing I dislike about western VA’s is how bad they talk and badmouth some of the characters they voice… you would rarely see a JP VA badmouthing the character they voice act… but in the west… there is no one day that you don’t find a guy portraying a character saying bad things about his character role . 😬
Nah, in Japan, they treat them pretty bad, too. Like any Idol in Japan, they have to keep their mouths shut about anything and pretty much the company control their life's. I feel like idol culture is creepy and puts the girls on so much stress cause they can't stop working.

@@ItsBoo. in 7 hours, also i saved the 3 dailly event vouchers a CC from the China server said we can stack 6 and is smart to save 3 until reset for Part II of the event and start with 6 vouchers, i will see if not using them now is really worth it or not, but using 6 vouchers (max 6 we can hold) for Part II of the event sounds as smart as Buying Event Attempts in Hard Modes of Nikke during events, resource wise.

I mean this so kindly but Western and Eastern standards when it comes to fields like voice acting, animation, anything in a generally artistic field are incredibly poor. It's not that they're "hiding behind unions" or providing subpar work, it's that western businesses have absolutely no shame in replacing humans and sacrificing actual quality for the sake of saving some money. Hence why they're striking due to being against AI and the like.
