If done right it sends a quite frankly absurd amount of garbage at your opponent and is good defensively because only the center 4 collums matter when getting eliminated.
The reason Wumbo lost was because he failed to adapt in the end. In a fight, both fighters must constantly adapt to their opponents counterplay, and it ends up being this constand back and forth. However, despite the fact that 4w just wasn't working anymore, he kept doing it. The right thing to do to intercept a 4w is with an all clear, which Doremy did. But to counter a perfect clear, you need to send a small burst of damage. But to counter a small burst of damage, a 4w can be adapted. But this didn't happen. So there ya go.

it does work. pc is somewhat luck factor, so is c4w if you can get downstack from the garbage sent. supersonic 4w (some jp build it faster) are my main weakness, as their midgame is also very strong.
I actually think Wumbo would've been better off ditching c4w entirely and going full tspins on you. Most games where he didn't choke his c4w you just set up tspins and tetrises to prepare for the damage and counterattacked. It also would've been more fun to watch. My honest opinion is that Wumbo has some training to do, but this was like, one of the most intense Salt Cup season2 battles I've watched yet, so good work, both of you

if you can land the Perfect Clear against a 4wides of any kind, it's basically worthless. that being said, garbage can help keep a chain going so it's not truly perfect, but it works. also, i noticed this a lot of when people actually do 4 wides, they never really go for the T - Spin if it's available. Anyone know why cause it just bothers me why they would just do a normal combo instead.

The most viable counterplay for 4-wides (outside of a 4-wide of your own, of course) is pressure. You can either KO them if they are using the regular 4-wide, or prevent them from building huge towers for center 4-wide (unless RNG is a harsh mistress and places all the garbage holes in the center).
Wumbo's 4w are intensely powerful, but you seem to have found a good counter for it. I feel like you're a better more flexible player than Wumbo is, since he almost relies exclusively on 4w to do damage when you & other pros (Amemiya & Rivclia) can still pull off T-spins to setup counters.
14:11 is a clear mistake by Wumbo. We have no long bars coming up, so we should clear a bit with this red. It's a spot where you should peek as well. I saw it in real time, what was he thinking???

Personal reasons, likely, since Doremy's stated before that he doesn't like 4wide but also cause it's not a guaranteed victory sometimes and 2 people 4widing can end up becoming a stall play as neither player is willing to initiate their combo. There are a few matches of Wumbo vs Amemiya on both of their channels that show matches that start with neither of them doing anything and just stalling out pieces for as long as possible. It's boring as hell.

@@CodeJazper i want to add to this (old) thread that is not that he just uses it, its that he abuses it that makes it cheap. its a valid mechanism and comes up naturally in gameplay often, but the issue is he, every time MUST set up a favorable downstack for himself. and then when he loses, he never shares it which makes him look like a high level player when the whole time he's using a mechanic that's near impossible to beat to get high ranks and wins.

A T-Spin, like most doubles and triples, could very well break the combo, so most players don't even bother using them in the middle of a 4-wide.

Wumbo always deletes his videos/streams of him losing, and in this video he used a broken technique that is extremely hard to counter, considering he is already an pro player in tetris, it is deem unacceptable for him to use a cheap tactic.
@@CodeJazper i want to add to this (old) thread that is not that he just uses it, its that he abuses it that makes it cheap. its a valid mechanism and comes up naturally in gameplay often, but the issue is he, every time MUST set up a favorable downstack for himself. and then when he loses, he never shares it which makes him look like a high level player when the whole time he's using a mechanic that's near impossible to beat to get high ranks and wins.
