    THERE IS A MISSING SET AFTER THE SECOND ONE. YOU CAN FIND THE TIMESTAMP HERE: www.twitch.tv/videos/662402245?t=00h10m43s
    this disconnect was really confusing:
    - they decided to give me the point for it but something felt off (i suspected it to be a desync from my perfect clear)
    - eventually "won" the game but we kept playing until the final score
    - confirmed later by wumbo that it was a desync as his side had a ready 4-wide while mine showed a total mess
    cheap wins are too cheap. i wonder what would've happened if i decided to take it

    I used to use side 4-wide when playing online because it was the most effective way to beat my opponents. But at some point, it just got really boring. It was a really predictable pattern: build up a well, then use a few memorized patterns to get a huge combo, do some downstacking, and repeat. Playing with t-spins and tetrises requires so much more brainpower and is a lot more fun. I am still a complete amateur when it comes to recognizing complicated t-spin setups, but watching top-level players is helping me a lot.

    Wumbo doesn't use c4w that much in his newer videos. Though in a competetive tournament I understand why he uses it. It's basically an almost uncounterable strategy. It is unfair. I do see some people hating on wumbo in the comments here, but we should hate the c4w instead of him. We can't deny it is fun to see Doremy beat c4w.

    • @redrider1823
      @redrider1823 4 ปีที่แล้ว +54

      We paint him in a bad light because of how he is as a person. His ego is massive to the point that he deletes vods of his losses, forfeits in a tournament and doesn't show up for future matches in said tournament, and just overall has no respect for the people he is playing against in said tournaments or the organizers. He's a good player, a rather strong player. But that ego of his is really surprising

      I just don’t like Wumbo as a person, he’s like the Leffen of the PPT scene. C4w is fine with me, it’s a strategy that works until it doesn’t since it can be easily thwarted by an all clear, fast dt cannon, or a good use of T spins or Tetris spam. It’s really all a matter of speed; 1 large Center 4 wide or 2-3 consecutive T Spins.

    • @NoFontNL
      @NoFontNL 4 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      @@Diembee C4w is still unfair. Yes, tetris spam or tspin spam could be the solution, but your average player can't even play that fast or is not that efficient. The game lacks a balance of executing difficulty or payoff balance over C4w and other strategies.

    • @derekliu793

      but tetris is a game of rock paper scissors - perfect clears absolutely destroys c4w because of its early garbage send and quick execution. likewise, puyo puyo counters c4w because by the time the attack is sent, puyo can counter with a huge attack rivaling that of the c4w.

    • @tiredmann
      @tiredmann 4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      You say it like he "resorted to c4w" as if something like wumbo recognizing a threat or something, it's more of a wumbo using his one trick pony in the tournament because he can't afford to lose and that's his way of getting easy wins. Which is completely reasonable.

    • @jfan3049
      @jfan3049 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      AxelVanDerPoke lol, he shouldnt be praised for using a strategy that is almost a guaranteed win against anyone (that isnt also 4widing). Wumbo does everything to win, even if its unfair and has nearly no counter while also being super easy to learn (which is fine). Its honestly the organizers fault that they didnt ban 4wide as an opener.
      If 4wide was banned, this wouldve been something like a 7-1, since wumbo lost like every game where Doremy survived the 4w. An opener that makes you win against someone that will destroy you (in midgame) should not be allowed. Something like a 7-1 should not be turned into a 13-15 just by using an opener that has minimal skill ceiling

      @@donnguyen166 holy shit telling others they are immature if they don't agree with continuously shit talking a player and its playstyle, this is beyond ironic
      in EVERY competitive game there will be a dominant strategy, and a competitive player should do everything in his power to WIN, if this means playing lame: you play lame. blame the game, not the player. (yes, one can also play or reasons other than just winning, but you should not blame a player for wanting to win. winning is as legitimate as any other reason in a competitive game.) besides there are plenty others tetris games where c4w is not even that strong, go play/watch those if you absolutely despise it

    If you’re more knowledgeable in tetris than me, tell me if I’m wrong, but c4wide in PPT specifically seems like wobbling in Melee. It completely bypasses an essential skill of the game while being ridiculously powerful (optimizing openings and upstacking in tetris, optimizing punishing in Melee). You have to outplay your opponent to a ludicrous degree to not die instantly to it (really tight b2b and stack optimization in tetris and Never getting grabbed in Melee). Oftentimes you kinda have to hope that the player doing it just messes up and drops it if you want to survive. I guess the main difference is that, to the average non-Tetris educated viewer, c4wide looks cool while wobbling looks as lame as it is to play against, unlike the c4w. (I know this because I got into tetris because of Wumbo and the simplicity and effectiveness of the c4wide. I watched one tutorial and could win against rated ~22K players as a

      @KioKah 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I think there are some common points between the two from a community standpoint as you said but I wouldn't say that c4w is as broken (broken as game breaking not op(since wobbling doesn't work against the best of the best while c4w does) ) as wobbling. While it does artificially elevate your rank you can only go so far with just c4w. Also in tetris you can change tactics whenever you want and you're not restricted to one (or few) main(s). So I'd compare c4w to a high tier counterpick instead of an OTP character.

    • @nessfrommother2147

      @@KioKah but they are both degenerate strats, low skill input in for very high attack output. Just like anyone can pick up a controller and press A at 200bpm, anyone can stack 3 and 3 (or 6) and 4w. Sure 4w doesn't break the game but neither does wobbling - how many IC mains are there in top 100 Melee? And compare that number to the 4widers in the Tetris top 100.
      I'd argue that 4w is worse because it has no good counterplay - the best we can counter 4w (in guideline at least, jstris has 4w banned in default rooms and in tetr.io 4w got nerfed because of their complex attack table) is stuff like FC or DT opener or 4w back. While for wobbling, at least the pros know how to not get grabbed easily.
      But then again I usually play jstris, a game that has 4w banned so hell if I know.

      Wobbling is from Super Smash Bros Melee. It is an infinite grab combo that works only with one character (the Ice Climbers), basicly if you get grabbed you lose 1 life. It feels very unfair when even against your average tournament player since grabbing is a core mechanic so it is not that rare even if you know that that character only wants grabs (fyi without wobbling the character would be kinda low tier so wobbling doesn't work against the best of the best since they know really well how to deal with a character that only wants grabs with their experience). It is also not that fun to watch a match with the Ice Climbers compared to other characters so it is not generally appreciated by anyone but the Ice Climbers players.

While you need some skill to master them, once you do, it's practically impossible to beat you, unless the opposing player is WAY more skilled than you. Like, I'm a 9500 Puyo, yet a 7000 could easily beat me with a C4W.

    Man if the devs would nerf tetris combos just a LITTLE bit, this game would be way better. If Center 4 Wide was nerfed to the point where it ALWAYS ends up losing to a Perfect Clear, it wouldn't be such a cheap tactic.

    • @aether-music
      @aether-music 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a _bit_ too much - by that point, c4w would be useless. I'd say a PC should disable a c4w but leave opportunities for a different strategy to take its place without instantly causing a loss.

    HOW. ARE. YOU. SO. FAST???...ik the obvious answer is _lots_ of practice, but there's *_no_* way I can compete with that kind of speed. My strategy tends to lean more towards endurance(aka trying to outlast the opponent so I can execute a deadly combo streak/a couple tetrises), and typically, it works with people similar to my skill level(which I'd say is slightly above average). But even for those of just above average skill level, it can fail. Perhaps I should practice a more viable strategy, but as of right now I can't process the tetriminos at such a blindingly fast pace 8<
    -(Yes, ik Wumbo is in this video and he could technically be considered "the best", but you're so very close to his skill level, that it wouldn't surprise me if you got neck and neck on the leaderboards one day...then again, it's nice to have competition as a competitive player, I guess.)
