    I’ve just got mine and can confirm that the screen is crispier and the interface is snappier comparing to the previous model. I particularly noticed higher contrast in this new model. The weight difference is unnoticeable however the larger screen is a huge plus. Warm light is a good addition as well. Overall, very happy and I think it is definitely worth to upgrade.

    After being a dedicated kobo customer for 10 years, and having experienced screen issues with both the kobo Clara HD and libra h2o model, I purchased one of these the other day. I haven't been through all of the device yet, but I can say without a doubt that this thing is solid. The backlighting is even, no shadows or dark spots. The text is crisp and clear. Seems easy to navigate. Fast page turns. My first Kindle and I gotta say, A+ so far

      Lol, another Oasis-dissing know-nothing. You think screen real estate and tech specs are why some prefer the Oasis? Nah... it's the ability to easily disable the touchscreen and manhandle the thing, read on your back or in any position, because you hold it like an actual book, thumb ON page. The contour for your fingers on the back make your grip that much easier. THIS is what makes the paperwhite a ghetto eReader.

    • @ron4431
      @ron4431 3 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      I guess a color e-reader is actually the opposite of what an e-reader is. The e-reader aims to provide a paper-like display with the longest battery life possible and something that doesn't affect your eyes especially after spending an entire day in front of monitors and hence most e-readers take this decision to keep things in monochrome.

    • @cortster12
      @cortster12 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      What's wrong with black and white? You don't need color to read. The entire point of an eReader is battery life and something like looks like paper.

      So what would be ‘truly new’ in your opinion? What are you hoping for? Technology is still moving forward: e-ink devices with color are here now, you can even write on them. Foldable screens / phones, better camera’s, etc. The hardware in all these computer devices is absolutely amazing already… and at some point there’s no use putting in extra power or more / better camera’s for the majority of users. Computing power is still evolving, with some truly incredible advancements just around the corner (quantum computers), self-learing devices, self-driving cars, etcetera. Of course, those are all iterations of previous tecchnology, but it’s always been like that. I think for many people it’s already quite hard to keep up with all the changes technology imposes on them!

    I get that book files take little to no space to actually store, but I mean come on 5GB? in this day and age where 128GB micro SD cards run for $15 to $20 bucks. It is absurd how Amazon can charge almost double for 32GB. The best suited solution would be expandable storage, but honestly I doubt that they’ll ever do that. I would like the ability to keep all my book files, but also manga and visual novels, that take lots of space in comparison.

    • @nicolearaujo3466
      @nicolearaujo3466 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      hummm no it doesn’t, if u do a lil research, you can one thousand books in only 1GB. and comics don’t take thaaat much more space compared to a normal book. 8GB is more than enough even for avid readers for some good years. they only offer the 32GB for people who like audible books, those do take lots of space but still would take some few hundreds of audibles to fill that space up.

    Is the screen less matte than the Paperwhite 4? One of the selling points of the PPW for me was the almost paper-y texture and genuinely glare-free screen. If the newest has a glossy screen I might just stick to the last model because that's one of the reasons I even got a Kindle in the first place. Would really prefer not to go back to easily smudged and reflective screens when reading.

    - Bigger screen: for a device dedicated only for reading, this is a huge concern. Keep in mind, the screen is bigger, but the device is not that bigger compared to the old one, the bezels are slimmer.

    I bought one at 3 am during cyber Monday (it was an impulse buy, I was asleep). It just arrived, and I haven't unpacked it yet. I have an iPad pro 10.5 and it isn't super comfortable for reading since it's a little heavy, but it's not such a big deal. I'm not sure if I really need the Kindle, I don't read that much. Should I unpack it? I can always sell it. I'm going to wait a little, maybe someone can convince me here :-)
    I should add that my iPad is always with me, since I use it to draw. I'm tempted with the kindle but I'm not sure why.

      I don’t know for the kindle vs kobo debate but I can definitely say to you, you really don’t need the signature edition especially for your first ereader. I’ve got the basic kids edition model in February because back then I needed the least expensive commitment I could find as I had no idea if I’d even like ebooks at all but I’ve read 47 books since then, more than I’ve read possibly in my entire life and even tho the basic does the job small issues are now irritating me so I thought I deserve the upgraded version as I now read all the time. You’re not gonna fill the 8 gigs up so you certainly don’t need 32gb of storage and the wireless charging is unnecessary considering you’re gonna be charging your kindle maybe 3 times in a month if you’re a heavy reader. You’re better off buying the regular paperwhite or even the kids edition paperwhite since it comes with an Amazon case, 2 years of warranty and is ad free for the same price.. as for kobo I’ve considered the libra 2 but I’m not benefiting from any online libraries since I don’t live in the US or Canada, kobos are not easily accessible here so support and warranty is an issue and I decided to stay with Amazon because of convenience. I’m invested in their ecosystem now, loading books onto kindle from the phone app is my favorite feature so I couldn’t give that up and I'm not gonna pay more for a less know/reputable brand.

    • @kiwidude68
      @kiwidude68 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This, so much this. The #1 reason why I was not upset when my Paperwhite died. We must hold the kindles differently to others. I don’t hold in a pinch grip, instead use an open left hand so the thumb could page turn and the little finger supports the device from underneath. Unfortunately this stupid paperwhite design has the power button exactly on that spot. It is likewise a problem using the Amazon kindle stand, you had to very carefully rest it in because that sat on the button. Best loccation ever was the Voyage with a recessed long press button on the back of the device for me - but then Amazon can’t sell you any covers so that is no more.

    I actually picked up the Signature Edition so this thing lasts a INCREDIBLY LONG TIME!! I went two weeks just reading a Printed Copy of a Book and it barely dropped about 12% off a Hundred of that. The extra is that it’s Qi Chargeable but that’s more of a extra feature less of a selling point. Point is, if you wanna spring for the Signature then go for it if not then the 5 edition is amazing too. Both are great!!

    Maybe this is a stupid question, but what's the difference in this context between manga and graphic novels? Why not have the same features for both (quick page turn, guided view)? I get that guided view would have to be specially programmed so that each frame can be correctly cropped, and that takes time so not all graphic novels are gonna get it, but the way you phrased this made it seem like they refuse to do it for manga, and I can't think of a good justification for that.
