I've kind of been goading TRP to cover Udodi for over a year, including earlier today. Well, maybe vociferously goading. Finally! Udodi is just oozing talent. Grew up in the USA. Born here too. Ran for Nigeria in the World's last year. Goes to my alma mater where you know he has to spend a lot of time studying and being a real student. When he finishes school and has more time for the track he'll make another big jump in performance. His running mechanics are better this year. His main issue has been learning to peak at the right time for the big meets. Hopefully the coaches will have him peaking at the NCAA's this year.

I recall a former all-pro NFL defensive lineman named Dexter Manley who played all 4 years in college and was illiterate. LITERALLY illiterate. It was in the news back in the day when he finally took it upon himself to learn to read and write after he retired. The situation with Manley is an extreme example, of course, but the point is, system is set up to allow elite athletes who are, at best, marginal students to remain eligible. That’s not to take anything away from the truly good students, but hopefully no one, including you, would call such people “serious students”.

My son described multiple athletes at his school who had all of their essays written by “tutors.” My son got permission to skip the tutoring after first semester when he had a 4.0. He was too disgusted to watch what was going on.

One thing I know is the people who dominate the sectionals/regionals rarely repeat the same in the NCAAs. Good run but you saw what happened to Courtney Lindsay in the indoor ncaa’s, Boling last year, Ofili last year, Ismael Kone last year, the list goes on
Can see him running 19.83 or so which would be rapid for a 2003 born athlete. College athletes tend to peak early/multiple times so if he gets under 19.85 I think that would be a success

At least in some cases they lived in the country. That seems like it has some legitimacy. And even that seems somewhat fake if you live and train in some country for 10 years.
