Old Alfa's seem to have an unfounded reputation for being unreliable but they are mechanically quite strong. They like to be driven hard. They were prone to rust like many cars of the era and electrical issues are typically just grounds that need to be cleaned up. They really are fun to drive and they get under your skin. ALFA stands for Always Looking For Another!

They will never do it. They are Good Ol' Boys that have zero idea or respect for what culture and heritage is, especially Italian culture. Anything outside of their world of Camaros and V8s they know not how to appreciate. Hell they'd never even seen a 1970s, 1980s or 1990s American market Alfa before.

The TH-cam algorithm, in its infinite wisdom, has just made me discover this video. Well, you've definitely earned a new subscriber, an Alfa Romeo enthusiast and historian from Italy, where these were common and are now loved collectors' cars.
I'm glad you've saved this Alfetta from the scrapheap, as it definitely deserved to live again.
The fuel injection system was made by Spica, then a wholly-owned subsidiary of Alfa Romeo. It was very clever and sophisticated for its era, allowing Alfa Romeo to comply with USA emissions regs while maintaining good performance.
If you want to learn more about Alfa Romeo's history, my own channel is full of quality Alfa-related content. Cheers from Italy!

Welcome to the weird and wonderful world of Italian engineering :) here in the UK Alfas used to be a reasonably common sight but like most things they are really not designed for our soggy climate and most had rusted out inside of a decade. I still occasionally see them parked up on a driveway or field, usually covered in moss and with rust holes big enough to fit your whole fist through. As others have said, you have a fantastic local junkyard that's a great source of classic Euro stuff, with just the right amount of patina to add to the historical interest without being completely rotted out and beyond hope lol. Nice collection you have there. I came for the 911 build (which is looking incredible btw) but stayed for the rusty stuff... definitely my favourite 'shade tree mechanic' channel!

As a life long Alfisti it's great to see newbies discovering the uniqueness of Alfas in general and Alfetta sedans in particular. Our family has owned over 50 Alfas and at least 12 of those were Alfetta GTVs or sedans. The few missteps with the suspected valve and the boat tank for fuel delivery were entertaining. I laughed when he said he couldn't bleed the rear brakes. I'd bet a lot of transaxle alfa don't have functioning rear brakes. Those rear calipers are FU'd.
FYI, gas smell in the oil may indicate a leaking seal in the fuel injection pump.
The last part was a classic Alfa experience. They couldn't stop smiling while driving.
Please do a follow up video once it gets more sorted.

This was bittersweet to watch! My father used to have the Coupe version Alfetta GT, hatchback, with the 1800 cc 121 HP engine with two double carburetors ( yes, one per cylinder) which was pretty difficult to adjust so we had to clean the sparkplugs all the time, especially in the wintertime. After the GT we drove an Alfetta 2.0, basically the same body yours has, but with a different front and rear styling, with big rectangle headlamps. This one had 130 horsepower, still the same twin double carburetors and sounded pretty much like yours, just not that clinky-clanky, lol. Love your channel, go on! Greetings from Germany, Mark

Wow !, wish we had this kind of thing sitting in scrapyards here in the U.K., it’s so hard to find these kinds of cars over here as they’ve all rusted away long ago and those that haven’t are silly money and in even worse condition than yours.
I love Alfa’s, I own 3, so this is fantastic to see. You should definitely restore this or sell it to someone who will.
Fantastic find and great video, as always.

Compliments! You found a nice car, completely original in all its components and with not so much rust. Your Alfetta has a sofisticate machanical injection system by Italian Spica, not easy to find the spare parts for it but you can replace by 2 double body carburators. I appreciated the respect for the engine during the first start up: new oil, gentle warm up. Nice

This reminds me of the ‘74 Audi Fox I had when I first started driving. Thank you for bringing it back to life.

The Fox was somewhat obscure and underrated George Follmer I think marketed a suspension kit . Car and Driver played with it

Hi guys. Yes the alfetta was a great sedan. My father had an 2000 series ( 2 liters) around the years 83,84. And with such a car you were able to drive from France to Spain or Portugal easily.

    ''What a fun little car''
Funny to hear that, here in Italy when it came out was considered a medium/full-size sedan.

Love these old Alfas! You have to restore it there are probably less than a thousand of them left as they were terrible rust buckets but sublime driver cars.

That Alfetta was originally "Rosso Alfa" or Alfa Red, resprayed in the original colour will look amazing! 😁

The vibration sound is probably from the driveline, the driveshaft rotates at the engine speed. There are 3 rubber donut couplers (Guibo) that perish quite frequently, the one closer to the engine goes bad first. I owned a 79 Alfetta, you will love this.

Congratulations on the video. I restored a 2000 alfetta saloon from 1976 originally sold in california and brought to Portugal by a portuguese immigrant. I have good memories of this car that unfortunately I sold.

I’m so impressed with your perseverance and resourcefulness. Between BMW, Porsche and now Alfa. Your really evolving this channel.
But what happened w the 320’s now that they are runners?
